Michigan is home to over 160 species of butterflies, many of which have unique food plants and environmental requirements for survival. Their geographic distribution and population levels in the state are determined by various factors, including soil type and hydrology, plant communities, climatic conditions, and human activities. Several common and some extraordinary species will be discussed. The presentation will feature many photos of Michigan butterflies and their host plants.

Duke Elsner, President, Michigan Entomological Society
