Michy, you should think about using the mechanical advantage of the skid steer, with a rope and sling you can turn the log, by using an offset loop and lifting the log so that it rotates….think about it before you mess your back up….use your brains instead of the brawn….is what my mom always said….just an old man’s observation…

I'm continually impressed how such a beauty young lady is stronger than many who are twice her size. Michy Milling Inc. must be the source of many aching muscles. And it looks like those insidious ants are going to keep you busy for a while. Poor ol' "Clifford" is just going to have to wait his turn.

I laughed out loud when you comedically collapsed face down on the lawn. You mentioned in a previous video that the one thing you can't do is sing. Perhaps slightly off key, but I loved it anyway. More please! The composition of your videos has a wonderful natural flow and improves with each new video. Your choice of music, and when to use it, is spot on! Your use of visual humor and the ability to laugh at yourself are a couple of the reasons why I adore your channel. Some of my favorite moments are when you do voiceovers. When building decks we make them free standing, an inch away from the house so water cannot accumulate against siding. More posts and footings are needed but worth the extra cost and effort.

Being a goal oriented individual can sometimes be overwhelming when not having a team to draw inspiration from. And, wow, you are such a beautiful person, slender but tough as nails, strong and stubborn. Seeing you toss those logs around, any of which would have a Nordic viking like myself gasping and breaking wind, trying to lift them! Kudos!

Just fantastic Michy, best joist I've seen , hope you remind yourself to take care of your lower back , ask Steve to engineer for you a better grab and turn tool for your larger logs , or perhaps a attachment using the bobcats hydraulics. So, this should be a lesson to all. Houses should be standalone. Decks should be standalone. Any time you attach a deck to a house, expect water issues. I learned this on my first house, will never make that mistake again.

It's incredibly satisfying to see you mill your own lumber. It is cut to your desired thickness and the lumber could be milled into beams, posts and boards of various measurements. I like your song 😂😂. Yes you can speed up the process using a chainsaw to cut groves through the bark ! An old time logger one time showed me what he did that helped speed up bark removal ! While walking full length of the log , use an axe and it doesn’t take a lot of force , chop through the bark every 6”-8” as you walk along ! It helped me with the draw knife time ! Geeeez what a job you got into ! But I think you are doing great it looks like !

If you have a length of 1 1/2'" or 2" Dia, length of steel pipe that could slip over the handle of the log rolling thingy and maybe double its length, leverage would increase dramatically. Almost role a log that size and have a sip of coffee at the same time..... Cheers, love your channel.

lol when you said you were going to use the log wizard, I pretty much knew you would be going back to the draw knife. Been there , done that. Bark not coming off easy is a good sign for better wood. The sap was in the ground then and wood denser. Minimal checking.

Try using your pressure washer to blast the bark off the logs, I did on my white cedar logs ,that I built my house with good luck!

Was so funny watching this video, I cut a huge tree yesterday and the base was 24 inches, and set it up just like you and had to slide the log down just a bit because I wanted and did put a fresh blade, I’ve been working my mill over got a mess of beautiful birch cottonwood and spruce, ordered 10 more blade’s and they sent me a woodland mills hat woohoo, such great customer service, love everything about them and my HM 130, love your video, I need to get an attachment for my bobcat now Blessings 🙏❤️Your friend from Alaska

Good morning, Michele I have a suggestion that might make your life easier. If you rotate the log toward your walking side of the mill ( opposite of what you normally do. ) your sawblade would be cutting on a non-bark part of the log. The sawblade exiting the bark should not dull it very much even if the log is dirty thus eliminating the need to remove all the bark off the tree. You would only need to remove the bark for your first strip of cutting. It might be a little more difficult to ensure you had a 90° cut on your second cut, but I’m sure you have the talent to make that happen. Just a method to think about to make your life easier. Keep up the videos they are very entertaining in a bed of bark!

Whenever and, all of the last 30 decks I've built, I build freestanding and unattached to the house in any way. I make sure that there is about a 3" gap between the sill and the sill of the deck. I overhang the decking to almost touch the house by about 1" - 3/4" shy. I also turn the boards perpendicular to the house as opposed to running parallel with the house. This lets a lot more moisture and debris fall between the building and the house. It also allows a lot more airflow through there.

That's what I've always 🤔💭 thought, "Why work smarter, when you can watch someone else work harder".

Wow, what a fab episode of milling and "Michyness". You've made my long weekend, with a "Monday off" (Thanks King!) new video. You definitely need to find a back-painless hydraulic solution to turning your logs when they're on the mill platform. No more of this "woman-handling tree trunks"! There has to be a bolt-on rig to turn and position these monster logs, powered by the Bobcat engine and hydraulic pump, even? The only thing you should be lifting with your finger is the hydraulic actuator lever!!!! Search with Steve's engineering help. Just love your stuff Michelle! Awesome watching a gorgeous woman manhandling that huge log. Much respect! How long did that log take to mill?

Great work Michy. Love your determination. When putting logs on the mill you need to plan how to position the log before you make the first cut. Just rolling the log on the mill and dogging it and start cutting will not give you the best results. When you have defects on a log you must rotate the log so that the defects will be removed with your cuts. Usually it involves turning the log so defects are not going to be at 45 degrees to the flat surfaces of your cuts. Also lifting the small end of the log half the difference in diameter of the large end will give you the most good lumber out of a log. As for the type of wood you are using, if this lumber is going to be exposed to any type of weather, Hemlock is not going to work. It will be rotten in a few years. Also you need to avoid any sapwood. It will rot quickly no matter what species. Even a very decay resistant wood like cedar, the white sapwood will rot away just as fast any decay prone wood will. You can see this on the logs you said had staining, that is just the sapwood starting to rot. A lot of the damage to the house where the deck is attached is from water droplets and rain hitting the deck and splashing against the the wood of the house causing it to deteriorate. If you really want the deck to last I would seriously consider putting some kind of roof over the whole deck.

We have a mill just like yours, and we’ve found it easier to flip heavy logs if you turn the log stops around so that bevel on top is facing the opposite direction, and when you flip the log it doesn’t bite into it. At least that what we’ve found.

Dear (sometimes simply too) hard working Michygoss. You definitely could use 2 common, sturdy debarking tools with long handles (blades look like extremely sturdy spatulas/scrapers). One with a straight and one with a curved blade. These two will make your life sooo much easier that you will wish you had them before. I suggested the tools to Shawn James over and over again. Finally he bought them and is using the tools a lot for years now. 2) There is definitely a way better and easier to handle debarking attachment tool for chainsaws existing. I saw those in use several times on the Interweb. If I remember correctly, there is even one existing to put on electric chainsaws. Some beautiful lumber out of those logs. Quick tip for the mill... The log stops face the other way when you know you're going to be rotating the log (7:24 mark). Short side of the angle faces the log to aid in rolling 😊

The Auction at Greenwood has Grapples for Sidsteers....they sell very reasonably. I had to do some minor adjustments to fit my 262 Cat but it might be the ticket for you.....

In outdoors with the Morgans, Mike uses two pop up hydraulic tractor arms. So when he wants a log turned, he uses his hydraulic lever and those arms pop up with rotating grabber arms to rotate his logs in seconds. I think if you do a lot of logging/ cutting work by yourself, this is the way to go Michy.

Pro tip: I use a chain hoist attached to the bucket of the skid steer raised above center of the log and hook it around. Let the hoist do all the heavy lifting and rolling. Takes the stress out of the job, and much faster.

I live about 1/2 mile from log yard.Have also done multiple log homes.We use are own home built peeler out of 20'' planer blade and 3/4 steel rod.Also my kids arms about size of your legs.The wizard is for around the knots, also a sharp Spd bar at knots is good to.Doing good for what you have.My kid does weighted pull ups with 100#s, he's a natural log peeler

Impressive work on the sawmill, physically demanding too. I've worked stone saws for 30+years and can honestly say Use your forklift. Your back will love you for it, really great stuff to watch and the song was brilliant 👏 👍.

Making forward progress. I've never logged wood so I don't know what I'm talking about. But, why not skip debarking the wood and just run it threw the mill? Let the blade do the hard labor (make that blade feel the pain). Also, you're going to need a variety of wood sizes. Mix it up. Cut some of the smaller planks and braces you'll need. I can imagine the heavy wood from the rain. Lot's of grit.

Cut 2 pcs. of PVC pipe about 24” long to fit over your tube stops for turning your log. It will make the turn much easier.
