This year, our 'Mick Aston annual lecture' will focus on CA Site Team's excavations of an extensive Roman cemetery site in Gloucester.
Gloucester - Roman 'Glevum' - was a colonia, known to have supported a large community of retired legionaries. A significant number of the people buried at the cemetery show evidence of traumatic injury. During the lecture, Osteoarchaeologist Sharon Clough will discuss whether those same people were likely retired veterans or not.
