I’m a black woman, who has loved country music my whole life. I’m literally at work tearing up listening to this. This message on this stage. Wow. I didn’t even know I needed this till I heard it❤️

IN TEARS!!! Only black girl, growing up in rural Missouri in an all white school. I stayed away from most country music because it resembled the hate that I endured back then. WOW! Times have changed. I have never seen anything like this! I may have to open my mind to it now!

Beautiful inside and out. It took years for my daughter to grow her hair long. Then one day she came home from College completely bald. She said that she wanted to grow back her hair naturally without any chemicals. I was proud that she accepted her skin/hair PROUDLY. She was finally comfortable being HER. I couldn't have been more proud of my baby girl.

I am 36 years old crying like a baby…cause I resonated with this song so much. Growing up in the south, in East Tennessee was not always easy being a person of mixed decent. My momma tried to do my hair but she didn’t really now how too…so she would pay people to do my hair in return. But I do remember there was a time I hated anything that was black about me like my hair, my nose an etc due to bullies calling me Medusa. But then I grew to love myself although it took a long time, I eventually I got there. This song means a lot not to just me but to many people like me and I’m thankful for this song. I love country music and I’m so happy to see changes within country music itself. As well as, seeing CMT making effort in contributing to change makes my heart so happy!

Thank you Mickey, Brittney, and Madeline for speaking thru song what so many women of color go thru on a regular basis. I remember 20 years ago I was so nervous going to a job interview for a position that was my dream job as an RN. I decided I was not going to cover who I am but went into the interview with my little natural afro. I believed in myself enough and my skills as an RN that I could be judged by my skills and experience as a professional RN and not my hair. I am proud to say I did get the job and months after being hired I had a couple of co-workers approach me and asked me about my hair. I decided at that very moment that it is not about what others think but how I feel about myself, and I love myself. It took time for me to get there but I will never go back to thinking less of myself based on the beauty of how I was designed because I am a composition of my parents.

Wow as a mixed person with hair like you rockin on stage this has been a change for me. I have never seen anyone that will just rock the hair like this. I have always hated my hair because of that reason of people making fun of it. To this day I still wear my hair in a bun because you can't do much with it but straighten it. And that takes hours to do and alot of money I don't have. This song was beautiful shows me that I should be proud of myself and my hair. Thank you ladies

Wow, I'm loving this! I love that Black country singers are starting to make their way into the lime light. Growing up in highschool (almost 10 years ago) if you listened to country music, you were considered uncool or just different. Even tho the school I went to was extremely diverse. We had an even mix of all races. But the influence of rap , hip-hop and pop music had on my generation, was far more superior than country music. I felt like an outsider for liking country music Don't get me wrong I love rap and hip-hop too, but I really love country music!!! And I feel like with Black country music artist coming out the woodwork will help influence all races that country music is just as cool and normal!!!
