Second part of this presentation. (John) Mickey Laux, a chemistry professor at the Orange Coast College, comes to the University of California, Irvine every summer to participate in the AirUCI summer teacher workshop. This video catches Mickey in the process of explaining how a GCMS (gas chromatography mass spectrometry) instrument works to teachers who did not have any prior experience to this technique.

I'm a chemist and believe me, there is not a text book where the quadrupole is explained as well as this superb teacher, so amazingly and so easily, has done. About the Skoog book where i hardly studied: it's so confusing that my head refused reading more than two times and my teacher also should learn from this video (and this great teacher) how a quadrupole works. The Students of this teacher are very very lucky persons. Great lecture!

I have used quads for 30 years, and I don't think I have ever seen a better explanation how the RF/DC voltages can isolate a single m/z window.

I have been using mass spectrometers for the past six years... I have not seen anyone, I mean anyone, explain in such a detail and fun way about quadrupole mass spectrometer. I simply loved it !!! Sir, you are simply amazing.

Wow, this is one of the best explanation I’ve heard about the mass analyzer. The Professor made a perfect explanation to this. Thanks for putting this together.😅

I just want to say the way he explains this was so clear and if my organic chemistry professor was like this I would have never hated the subject. He is so precious.

Thank you very much! I guess I would never be able to explain mass analysers in such great details and fun ways even though I will soon become a doctorate in this field after all these years using a mass spectrometer.

They feel the same force from the electric field (since that is proportional to charge), but their higher mass makes their acceleration smaller.
