Each new year, copyright protections expire on a number of well-known books, films, and musical compositions. This year, Mickey Mouse has entered a public domain - which means Disney won’t be the only one who can use his image. CBS News’ Jo Ling Kent reports.

Warner could use the original version of Mickey to the 2nd crossover with Bugs for now otherwise wait til 2036.

I wanted to be in the book and cartoon biz, but then I got scared of my creations being in the public domain 100 years from now, that I just gave up. Imagine if the Internet started making Rule 34 artwork of my characters... future generations in my family would be SCARRED for life.

No, the story boards are still Disney's as is any cartoon they made with Mickey in the past or future. What it does mean is that now non-Disney entities can make Mickey Mouse cartoons, shorts, movies, comics etc without there being legal ramifications.
