Part of the reason these modern Mickey Mouse shorts seem so random and kinetic like early Spongebob and Adventure Time episodes is because Paul Rudish, the lead creative behind these Mickey Mouse shorts, worked on everything from Batman the Animated Series to Dexter's Laboratory, the Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack, the Star Wars Clone Wars Miniseries, and even contributed to the early seasons of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. He's a veteran of the animation and comedy field.

This *_is_* how Mickey used to act in his old shorts. In The 50s and 60s Mickey was reimagined as a shy, sweet, and happy-go-lucky protagonist, and stayed that way until the 1990s. I actually prefer *this version* of Mickey best, but everyone’s different. while in the 2000s he just became a generic “mascot” character with little personality (this is most prominent in _mickey’s clubhouse_ where he rarely did anything outside of the generic.) _house of mouse_ gave him subtle, mischievous remarks, particularly to villains, but he mostly remained the straight man to everyone else’s antics. He finally returned to form in this show.
