i just went through this! we left the place in great condition and didnt get my $1795 security deposit back. in my state if the landlord doesnt either return it or send a letter saying why they are keeping it with itemized deductions within 14 days then they cant keep a penny even if it was damaged and you can even sue for double what your deposit was. i sent the landlord a text saying either return my $1795 or i will see you in court where ill sue for double, plus youll have to pay court costs. i got no answer so i filed and the DAY BEFORE our court date i got a text from him that he sent the security back and i got the check 2 days later. landlords act like this is just free money for them.
