Watching the kites nosedive into the stands is equal parts horrifying & hilarious

This is the Disney World 50th show I didn’t know I needed. KiteTails is so awful, it’s great. 😂

This show takes place in the Asia themed land of the park. Kites were literally originally invented in China. If The right creative people were to step back and take a look at the potential theming and artistic style of Chinese kites and blend them with Disney characters, we could have a beautiful show here. Especially framing it with the Nepali architecture and Expedition Everest, the draw for multiple day time shows could be huge. big inflated Disney characters being pulled by jet skis is a waste of an idea and a pretty great name, especially in a park themed to Animals.

Should've never gotten rid of Rivers of Light. That was a beautiful show.

AK has always been my favorite park, but the kites seem a little cheap to me. I wish they would bring the Rivers of Light back. Lately I just feel like Disney's trying to figure out how cheap they can go, and still charged guests twice as much.

I actually laughed when you kinda warned us not to get our hopes up about Primeval whirl necessarily having a replacement to go. It never occurred to me that they would replace it with anything. That would add to our park experience. That's not in the cards for our 50th anniversary celebration🤣

I’d much rather have Rivers of Light, at least that show had some effort and money put into it.

Gotta say, the "back seaters" on those skies, the ones actually holding the kite tethers, are going to have forearms like Popeye the Sailor by the time this event is over. Those cold-air inflatable figures have a lot of drag on their own. But the para-foil holding them up is very similar to the versions folks use for Kitesurfing. That's a lot of resistance on those lines, and you can see from the speed of the jet skies that they really have to crank on them and keep the speed up to keep them up and airborne. Even the set of "dancing" kites have a huge pull. Bet there's going to be some sore muscles at the end of each day. Gotta wonder though, how well this show it going to work with the weather there in FL, and the almost constant barrage of storms that move through the area in the Summer months. Anything other than optimal wind conditions is going to be very difficult to negotiate in that tight space with those huge figures.

What a hot mess I saw one of them actually land on a CM and they were trapped under it.

I have always said that the Cast Members are what makes Disney feel special. The amount of live entertainment Cast Members working on KiteTails makes it far superior and more "Disney" than Harmonious.

As annual passholders we love the AK. Makes for a relaxing change of pace and seldom difficult to get in. The Kites seem odd but they make for a pleasant change as the park transitions once again.

This show looks so ghetto that Disney just told the imagineers, "Yeah sure it's ok, go ahead and close down a quarter of the bleachers to crash the kites in. Not enough guests will ever want to see this rubbish that the theater will reach capacity anyway."

I think this will be a cult classic. It's so bad that it becomes good. I saw it live once and I was very entertained and kinda stressed out about the landings.

The timon and pumba kite was absolutely hilarious how it flailed everywhere XD

I actually liked this show sure it looks cheap to us as adults. But I think alot of people forget how great this could be for the children. Big colorful kites, upbeat music, audience participation. I think it's great for kids

It’s honestly has a simple charm to it, I dig it. Also they’ve got a killer drum boat so I’m content

Thanks for sharing this with us! Kite Tails looks colorful and cheerful, perfect for Animal Kingdom! We especially like the close up interaction of kites/puppets with the crowd to give the show a more dimentional effect. The shots you had with people next to the kites, showed how huge they are. We can't wait to see the show in person!

A few years ago Animal Kingdom took over as my favorite park at DW. And with all that is happening to the other parks its by far the best park to go to. Great food, rides, shade, atmosphere. Truly a master piece of a park.

I think I have to agree; the Idea of a Jungle Book attraction (whether it be based on the Animated or Live Action Version) using the Shanghai PotC Ride System makes sense. Because I think Jungle Book deserve some love at the parks, especially since it was the last animated film Walt Disney directed before passing away.

I guess they could shove the harmonious barges in Animal Kingdom 😂 minus the fireworks ;)

Disney's animal kingdom would be better if they also bring back Rivers of Light as nighttime entertainment and Kitetails as Daytime entertainment.

Your insight always amazes me Brayden! Excellent analysis and reporting! Wish you would do one of these for the other theme parks here in central Florida, namely Universal Orlando, SeaWorld Orlando, Busch Gardens, Legoland, etc. Universal is almost big enough that it could have its own channel like Disney, and you could have another for all the Central Florida attractions, and include some of the smaller venues like Gatorland, Holy Land Experience, Ripley’s, etc. One day, or 1/2 day attractions.

It seems like just a casual kite show, but it’s encouraged a lot of fury! I appreciate your relaxed outlook.

Best thing I can say about that show is that I suppose the kids like it. Which is fine. We judgy adults think everything has to wow us. Won't always be the case.

To be honest, I was one of those that thought Pandora didn't fit with the Animal Kingdom feel at first. But then I remembered that originally there was supposed to be an entire land for mythical creatures including dragons. And (at least to me) a world made for movies is just a modern version of stories of a mythical land, so why not have it in that park? Especially as you said that it also fits with the overall conservation message of the park.

I was sitting next to that tree when Baloo crashed yesterday. Wild stuff. I liked the Lion King version better, but to be fair, I did watch the Jungle Book version from a Flame Tree seating area and not the theater.

I like the way you think Braden and this is why I love your channel. The logic behind your reaction to this show makes sense to me. It probably is temporary and maybe one day they can come up with something that really works for this area. First I'm hearing about the Jungle Book attraction rumor using the same tech as POTC at Shanghai. That would be awesome and so much better than Zootopia (even though I did enjoy that movie). I'm also sad that, most likely, Dinosaur's days are numbered. I actually enjoy that attraction. Glad I rode Primeval Whirl the last few times I was down there. It was a fun little ride.

I would like to have been a fly on the wall when someone was coming up with this idea. Ok, what if we fly kites over the water? Who was the one that said “oh that’s a great idea”

I really wish they would keep dino land usa- as a dinosaur themed land, but completely nix the enitre "dino land USA/parking lot" trash concept. Make it an upscale dinosaur land. Have a beautiful wooden dinosaur coaster and keep the DINOSAUR dark ride and kids dig site. Then turn the finding nemo stage show into a "walking with Dinosaurs" LIVE show

I thought it was hysterical. Watching those kite/giant balloons crash land was very entertaining and it was nice to see a show that wasn't preaching some message at me.

Not every show can be big budget, this seems to be a fun throwback to that air show at Epcot in the 80s.

I kinda like kite tails. It’s just a lil something for the kids, nothing serious. On the other hand, I would rather have rivers of light.

The kite show is a no go for me. I don't hate it but it doesn't scream out "see me!" either. Sad to see Primeval Whirl go - yeah it was a lame coaster that exists in some form all over the world but I liked it.

I enjoy the kite show because I like performance shows and I enjoy the artistry behind the kits designs. It reminds me of the parasailing show EPCOT used to have in the middle of the day at the World Showcase Lagoon. I think it fits Animal Kingdom well. I am the type of person who enjoys the water ski show at Legoland too. So I feel this kite show kind of fits into those types of shows and Disney doesn't have something like that right now. I also appreciate when theme parks take risks, which is why projection shows are a let down for me. I am not a huge fan of Harmonious, but I can appreciate they are trying to be innovative. I am sad it took up the budget for everything else though. I also miss a performer aspect. I remember with Illuniations at the 2000 celebration that had a really cool puppet parade prior to the firework portion and it was a nice intimate experience, with the giant puppets and drummers (and if memory serves me correctly, stilt walkers) interacting with people. I think Harmonious is missing that piece.

The bleachers are empty which isn’t a good sign.

Reminds me of the old Epcot show Surprise in the Sky

So when we went to Animal Kingdom years ago, we ate at the Yak & Yeti. The BBQ ribs have been mentioned for years since. Well when we come in May we have limited time and budget, so we needed a reason to go to a park. We looked for something to bring us to Animal Kingdom instead of the other parks. Yeah, Kite Tails does NOT draw us in and so far we are only thinking the ribs are the only good reason to go back. Those would make for some very expensive ribs, lol!! Braden, I will say I agree with IP in Epcot. However, I did enjoy they did the songs in the countries languages and didn't just lift the movie scenes in all cases. Then I heard an interview about the thinking behind the show in Disney giving the countries the music and asking for them to give it back to Disney as they see it from their cultural point of view. I liked & understood the show better after that interview. However, those barges are UGLY!!!! They need to find a way to get them off that lagoon, so I agree with you there!

Oh this is just a relic of our current times. Years from now we will reflect on “Disney’s disastrous 50th anniversary Ft. KITETAILS” I feel like every so often Disney just flops. Like when they rethemed the castle to stitch or that horrendous candy retheme. It’s honestly camp.
