you might want to clean the tiles and that bath tub a little better you can see mold and mildew on those that's pretty disgusting.

Here in Greece and as a student in my university i used to have a small new apartment for 130 euro. Really small, just one "studio" room 30 square meters with a kitchen + bathroom, for 4 years i was a constant customer to IKEA :P. I equipped my little space with 32'' TV, 5.1 home cinema, couch for two, bookshelf x2, a paravan screen so i can split the room in 2 to have my bed and my desk behind it, and a powerful computer connected both with the monitor on my desk and the tv! It was FANTASTIC! I loved this place so much that i cried when i left it, i didn't know that i could live in such a small space, it was easy to clean, it was a relaxing place to sit with you friends and play videogames all night, it had a big balcony with a nice view, the whole building it was full of students anyway so they wouldn't mind if you wanna hear music loud in the midnight (and vice versa). Well, i don't know about living in a small place for 14 years but for 4 years, to me, it was the best place to have as a student!

I like the idea of micro living but the only thing that really irks me is not the small space, since you really don't need that much space but how disgusting some of these bathrooms are. the toilet, the tub, ugh.

If you did some cleaning (especially in the kitchen) and also did some KonMari folding, you'd have twice as much space and it would also feel... happier. This is actually quite a large apartment for Osaka. A family member lived in about 200 square feet in Tokishima. His was one room. And no offense, but it really needs to be organized better, especially the closets and kitchen cabinets. If you did, it would change the entire energy of the apartment. For example, a simple hook would let you hang the frying pan inside the lower cabinet beside the cooktop. Thank you for sharing your home. You did a nice job, and I appreciate your being kind enough to show us what is usually hidden. :) PS a plant and a favorite picture to scale on the wall opposite the TV would perhaps also make it feel more home like. Help/question: how do you spell the name of the shoe stand in english? I'd like to buy one. That is wonderful.

I feel sorry for the kitty, she will probably spend her whole life in that apartment. i would get so bored and lonely being there all day by myself while my owners are at work. 😢

I'm sorry but I'm unconvinced that it's a comfortable and and efficient use of space. Compared to other small Japanese apartments I've seen, yours don't appear very well organised and is far from an efficient use of space if you're storing food and clothes in the same closet and clothes and even more kitchenware in the living area. Think you could be more imaginative with your storage units as well, to make use of wall space. Do you think that, because you've been living there so long, you've perhaps stop 'seeing' and don't realise you might need to de-clutter or re-thing how you use space?

A kitten makes any apartment tour twice as interesting. I'm going to watch more videos and see if surrounding neighborhood makes the small apartment seem like a less of a sacrifice because so much is close by and you go out a lot.

I'm single on a 1200sq Ft home n live in my bedroom anyway. I think most of us have a favorite spot we plant ourselves after work, etch. I'm SO converting one bedroom into a studio to tent or live in. I'd rather save money and have an income from rent. Love the idea and I believe its the 'new big'.

A tiny space can be made to feel larger when there aren't so many walls and compartments. I don't think they would let you remodel the inside but if I could have it my way I would have one large open room with a built in cabinet taking up one wall only. In this wall would also be the kitchen area, so that everything could be put away when not in use. For sleeping I would include two fold down Murphy beds on the opposite wall. The room would thus have a multipurpose appeal to it that would only be seen when the different components were open at a time, a bedroom at night, a kitchen dinette at meal time, a living room study area during the day, etc.

Kitty stole the show. They always do how they domesticated the humans. Love your home. My X is from Tokyo. He thought my 1000 sq. ft house was a mansion. I just lived in the kitchen bath and dining room. I didn't use the two bedrooms and the living room and patio area. So for me now I think I want to build a house that can fit on the back of a truck and just lift into places in little bits and walls etc and just move with the house when you move to different states. That poor animal imprisoned in this awful small flat. The way it's running around indicates that it's quite neurotic. I think they should not be allowed to keep animals in such small places. Very SELFISH.

I am in New London, Connecticut, USA. I have 400 square feet. It is a smart layout. I don't have a roommate, but 2 cats (I've made lots of vertical spaces for them around the walls). I live quite comfortably. It takes constant picking up, and brushing furniture/cats. Vacuum to keeping cat hair from accumulating. I have adapted, and have become less materialistic. I have some nice things, but I don't tend to keep things if I have not used them in months. I even have a small ebay business out of my closet.

Wonderful tour. Although more space is nice, we only utilize a small percentage of the space we live in usually. For example, we each have our favorite rooms in our house and stay there. Ryan has his favorite rooms chosen for him.

Obviously, the style and amenities are a little different, but space-wise not that different from a new york apartment.

In Romania, people don't wear shoes too inside home . It's normal for us , only the guests some time wear, but if they ask "can I stay without shoes , some answer: yes, of course , some say: it's ok , you can stay with the shoes".....

My apartment in the Army was 300 sq. feet. Basically a living room with attached micro-sized kitchen and bathroom. The best part was the MURPHY BED!!!

Many of my friends and I live in apartments that are about 269 to 322 square feet (25 to 30 square meters), and we don't call it micro, just..normal one to two person home. So this is really interesting. After watching this video our apartments feel bigger although they aren't

I think this apartment is quite OK for you now. In the future if you have a baby or more pets, you will have to think of a bigger place to live. I live in a house with garden and backyard,trees,plants, lots of space outside the house but in the past I lived for two years in a tiny apartment. Now with my husband and six pets we wouldn't dream of living in an apartment again. We are used to living in our little forest, I love plants( we have a bamboo forest, fruit trees , pine trees, olive trees among so many others ) . I live in a seaside resort, in a beautiful small city, full of tourists in summer but quiet in winter. Greetings from Punta del Este, Uruguay ( South America)

Cozy little place dude. Makes sense to me to save the money in the bank rather than spend it on a few extra feet. Been to Japan several times and stay in hotels with tiny rooms but they have everything I need. Suzu kept stealing the show.

For me it's not micro at all. In Russia, where I live, 30+ sq. m appartment is pretty decent for one man or couple or even a couple with a small baby. But anyway it was pretty interesting, because though it isn't huge, it looks and feels pretty spacious. And it's interesting to see, how this was achieved. Thank you.

At first I thought, that's kind of big, but then you said you're sharing with someone else. I shared an apartment about this same size. I had also lived by myself in a 180 sq ft apartment in the US. It felt like just the right size for myself. But then I used to live in Korea (where I'm from) and Japan and already used to living in a small space. It doesn't feel small to me. Anything bigger is just more space than I would need. Less room, less stuff, less stress.

Personally I like having a bit more room, but if you can make it work for yourself that's all that matters.

I love this! If it was me living there by myself, I would be just fine. I'll keep everything simple and clean and keep only the things I truly need and love. I'll value my things more. 345 sq. feet is a large space! Countless people live in hotel rooms of just over 100 sq. feet. I did for over 7 years. The trick is to NOT own 1,000 items.

Because japan is a island nation, their style of living is using less space as much as possible. That's what makes them great for a nation of about 100 million. It's fantastic how they live on those islands.

Perfect little apartment, i will be moving into what is called a bedsit apartment here in the uk, i am waiting to have a viewing i have been offered, as the owners have there works guys go in to check all is safe with the cookers, electricity, and plumbing etc,so just waiting for the owners to call and i can go see it. I like your micro space and how it is laid out. It is not just the cost that is important to me personally, what is, is peace of mind.

I live in a normal 1970's 3 storey house with 3 bedrooms here in the Netherlands, but seeing this makes me feel like I live in Château de Versaille. Absolutely micro, indeed. I was even astonished how small the English live with their medieval sized houses, but this is really small.

Oooohhhh....!! I had made a comment on the video when you were looking at the apartments initially that I would've picked another one you had shown as this one had...well, that squat toilet. I didn't know you could buy a seat and whatnot for it. I think I still, personally, would've picked the second place of the three you showed but with the amenities you've added, I see now how this place can become much more cozy. Heh, I guess I shop by what things are at the moment I look at them, not what they can become. I'm too accustomed to Western houses; getting an apartment with no stove, fridge and half a toilet wouldn't fly here (well, my family had to buy a fridge for the house we're renting currently. At least that means it comes with us when we move). I'm again really happy you showed this. A lot more real-life to what can be expected instead of your regular, traditional house or your modernized apartment which, as you said, can be rather pricey.

my first apartment 30 years ago was about 450SF (officially a "Studio" due to the bath access was in the bedroom), in 5 years i managed to accumulate enough crap to require 2 trips to move it in a 14 ft moving van (supposed to be big enough for a 2 bedroom "american" apt.) in the last 24 years i accumulated even more crap to fill a 900SF condo, i could heat this place in the coldest winter just running all the computers i own. my furnace was out for a while, i heated the place with one stove burner and an 8 inch fan. if i win the lottery, i wouldn't want a "bigger" place, just better, 5-600 SF is fine for me, maybe with an outbuilding and garage... i may have to design it myself, i have 16 years of drafting/design experience and know how "I" like to live. i've owned 3 three cylinder "tiny" cars in the last 27 years, current is an '08 smart (great for everything cept SNOW!) best wishes! i have to watch your other videos on how you got to japan, etc...

it is small but you have been there for 14 yrs. What r u saving money for? You could still make it cool. you are wasting one room right in the middle. you could definatly build things in there for comfort and storage by now. Fix it up so u can enjoy it now. So small any improvements you make should be cheap since it is a small place.

I came from a big 70 square meter apartment and I bought a small 20 square meter with loft and i dont mind the change, in fact i enjoy the small space as I have less to clean.

Cool apartment. I like the stove that has an oven. Wish they had those in China. You start going nuts after a year without an oven. I like your video talking about micro living. We in the west don't realize how much space, water, and energy we waste on a daily basis. Many houses in America, for example, have a dining room and a massive kitchen, yet many of us just use the fridge, microwave, and eat in the den with the tv.
