For those looking for aluminum for the ring insert, and want something thicker than a soda can, I'd reccomend trying a wet petfood can, or a sardines can since these have a high likelihood of being made of aluminum. Some of these may have a BPA liner inside, which you may want to burn off safely outdoors before making your stove. If you have canned food and are uncertain if the can is made of aluminum, just use a magnet to see if it sticks or not, if it doesn't stick then it is aluminum. I believe some brands of vienna sausage also come in an aluminum can.

depends on the sardine can, some are steel. moist kitten food can sounds like a good idea for an alcohol stove, small, light, easy to take with, and might fit the stand used in this video. probably take 2 of those kitten food cans and some cotton or fiber fill to hold the alcohol. might also make for a neat/cool video.

Completely unnecessary. Alcohol is a SUPER CLEAN burning fuel. I have an ultimate stove (which I designed) made from bottoms if cans the size of 8.4 ounce Red Bull cans. I have an ultimate stove which has 700 burns on it. My only consern about this project is the amount of fuel it can hold
@Eidolon1andOnly
@Eidolon1andOnly Жыл бұрын
@@angusmacgyver3673 Like I said, using a magnet is the best way to determine if the can is aluminum or not, though I don't think I've ever found a sardine can that was made of steel.

James, may I say "wickedly cool" on this project. We have three favourite backups for when an open fire pit is not allowed or inadvisable. One of those backups is folding Esbit-style pocket stoves. They can be true multi-fuel stoves. We have used solid alcohol cubes, bulk gel chaffing dish fuel from a restaurant supply shop, several homemade fuel cubes and assorted liquid alcohol spirit burners, all with great results. People have used these stoves with small twigs and wood scraps, scavenged for free. We are always on the lookout for small burners that will improve the efficiency of our pocket stove cooking. Thank you for posting man. God bless you. We are watching from our retirement hideout on Luzon island in the Republic of the Philippine Islands.

very nice. I really like your informative videos. I just went thru hurricane ian and got hit pretty hard. no power for 3 days. other people complained about no way to cook or make coffee. appears their propane didn't work either. I got out my Sterno/grill combo and made breakfast. they laughed and walked away. by noon they came back and ask to borrow mine. I did. I then got out my twig stove and have been cooking well ever since. power came back on this am. I really enjoyed my little SHTF scenario. kind of sorry to see it go. but with 9 trees down and the loss of 3 outbuildings @ 70+ yrs of age. it's time to run away from the farm. taking the Yorkie and miniature pet goat with me. THANKS FOR ALL YOU TEACH US. IT IS VERY ENJOYABLE LEARNING. THIS LAST WEEK, THOSE SKILLS I HAVE LEARNED THRU YOU AND PRACTICED BECAME USEFUL IN THIS UNEXPECTED CRISIS. WE SHOULD ALWAYS BE PREPARED FOR THE UNSEEN CHALLENGES. I WAS PRETTY COMFORTABLE AND ATE WELL. MAYBE A LITTLE BORED. I MISSED MY WAYPOINT SURVIVAL AND PAUL BEGLEY VIDEOS UPDATES. WE ARE ALL GETTING TOO SPOILED OVER THESE COMPUTERS AND EASY WORLD ACCESS. TIME TO CUT THE UMBILICAL CORD. EXCEPT FOR WAYPOINT AND BEGLEY. i MUST TAPER OFF SLOWLY. BE PREPARED.....SEMPER FI....

My goodness James, this just keeps getting better and better! I'd love to find a tin can! EVERYTHING is plastic these days.. even the fuel container the kerosene I bought for my lanterns & stove came in plastic.

You can usually get a one-gallon can of denatured alcohol in a hardware store in the metal can. Then use it as your fuel. Nice design, I'm going to try this. I love making little stoves for some reason, lol.

@@WayPointSurvival Hey, I need to redo my wood decking anyway! I never thought of Walmart. I usually get it in a plastic 5 gallon bucket at Home Depot! Thanks!

Talk about a micro stove! Man that thing is little bitty ain't it I guess it's a pretty light too so it really won't put a lot of weight in your pack and it would be great for emergency situations. What an excellent tool for the toolbox, that was pretty clever James thank you so much for showing that. That would also make a nice little project for children that may be getting into Woodcraft. I wonder if you would call that little burner firecraft there's a question for you. Thanks for the video James that was pretty clever. Stay vigilant and keep ye powder dry

Great video! But it would have been amazing to see how you folded up the stump to fit in the Altoids tin. Maybe next time.

I had an old alcohol-electric stove on my boat and when I would take the kids out for a week or so we used that. It does require a lot of fuel, however it gets hot fast, and for an emergency THIS is a great idea. Hope all is well with you & yours. I have had you on my mind lately.

@@joemorganeatmyshortschannel I'm sorry this is STILL going on. There's only so much antibiotics you can give an older person without destroying his stomach. We had a bad time with this Hurricane, both parents were upset, hearing the wind & rain, and of course my generator wouldn't start... Thankfully, our power company came out and fixed it during the storm, so we have power. All is well now. Hang in there my friend. You are doing Gods good work.
