You guys need to have the salt bridges in chemical (ionic) contact with the materials on both sides of your fuel cell. There is no way to have a DC current if you don't have a complete circuit.

uhhh... you put one of the electrodes in upside down and forgot to top both the sides off with water to actually make contact with the salt bridge, you'll have much better results. Good idea on the salt bridge though. As far as any voltage you were seeing out of it I would have to say that your meter was sensing some static electricity in the air (i see this with my meter all of the time) or there was a really thin bridge of salt solution between the salt bridge and the solution.

Great work. May I ask a few questions regarding this experiment? 1. Do you actually put the proton exchange membrane in the plastic tube? 2. When you making the salt bridge, you said you mix agar with salt, what kind of salt you are using? 3. How do you connect the carbon cloth and the copper wire? or what kind of glue you are using? will it affect the conductivity? 4. Why you expose carbon cloth into the air at cathodic compartment？ 5. What conductive solution do you use in the cathode? Thank you.
