The keys are covered by tin foil. All the keys are connected to 3.3 Volt that is supplied by the 3V pin of the microbit. There are 3 strips of tin foil laying under the keys perpendicularly. Each strip is connected to a digital input pin on the microbit. When a key is pressed it connects 3V to the digital input through the tin foils. The way microbit can recognize the different keys is that every key can contact to different combination of strips as we cover some of the strips with paper (see picture in the Instruction). When the key is pressed microbit will read 0 where the strip is covered and 1 where it is not.

Cool. Very creative. I like the way you use three different pins to detect seven different notes. I didn't know one could use pin 8 with a crocodile clip.

I am trying to follow the pdf but I don't understand the gaps in the foil strips on the inside that the wires are conected to. Why are they there and how did you determine where to put them? I Have the pdf but I don't see where that is explained. I see the chart but I am not sure what it is for.

Hi, there are 4 foilstrips. 1 wide one that coveres the keys and 3 narrow ones that is the input to the microbit. 3 Volt is connected to the wide strip, so each key has 3V on them. If you do not press any key the microbit will read 0 Volt from each narrow strip. If you press a key the key will touch the narrow strips (the ones that are not masked by paper) and microbit will read 3 Volt from the narrow strips. With the paper masks that you appy on the narrow strips you digitally encode the key so microbit will know which key you pressed.

Hello , I am doing this project at school , I have used the link in the description and tried to create this paper piano , I did . I followed every instruction but I was not successful at achieving the sound to come out of the speaker , some keys work and some don't . Can you recommend me anything that I can do to improve the paper piano and make sure all the keys are working . Thank You , please reply ASAP . Appreciate it .

Hi, when you say it does not work, does that mean it never works no matter how you press the key or it sometimes works sometimes does not? If pressing the key does not produce any sound then the foil on the key does not contact any of the foil strips. This can happen if the key is curved, or the paper that you glued on top of the foil strips is too thick. Try to straighten the keys or press the key harder. If you still face issues, please upload a video about your project, showing the piano and the code and i will try to debug it.

@@ftomi instead of a speaker can i use headphones to amplify the sound ??

@@Zain-rk6yh Yes, you can use headphones, BUT do not plug the headphones into your ear, because it can bee too loud! Test it first how loud it is and then put it close to your ear.
