In this (longer) video I discuss where I’m at one year after surgery on my L5S1 disc. Re-herniated 8 months post op, but I’m opting to work on my core strength and decided not to have the surgery a second time. In this video I show you many of the exercises I’m doing:
CAUTION- I am not a doctor or a physical therapist. I am only showing these so you can get a sense of what I’m working on. Please ask your own healthcare provider what is safe for you to try.
I also discuss a few programs that I’ve tried /or am going to try:
•Egoscue - www.egoscue.com/find-therapy/egoscue-denver/
•moveU - moveu.com/
•Pilates / Barre

You're right. It is hard work and no one who hasn't gone through this can relate to the pain we experience. I wish you the best.

Bowen therapy has helped me... It's crazy how I couldn't walk, then 4 days after my first Bowen treatment I could walk again.

Sorry you had to go through this ordeal. God Bless, you have such a sweet spirit. I hope things have improved over the last 4-years.

So glad to get this update and hear that you're doing well. I have my last PT appt today after almost a year (before and after surgery). The weakness is so real. Your exercises actually look more intensive than mine even though they work the same muscles. My PT added aqua therapy once a week for the last month, and it added a whole new level of motivation, strengthening, and understanding body mechanics for me. I'd be happy to share some of those exercises with you. One in particular for the transverse ab I was able to adapt to land when I'm pushing a shopping cart or stroller. I'm trying to build those habits in to my routines so that it doesn't always feel like I'm stopping everything to do weird exercises but doing one thing every time I go upstairs, another ever time I have a shopping cart, another thing each time I walk through a doorway, etc.

Do you feel any nerve pain still?
@cloudspurlock
@cloudspurlock 5 жыл бұрын
@@michaelmuro4475 Yes, but now it's mostly muscular pain at levels 2 - 3. And even when I get shocks of nerve pain up to 8 or 9, it goes away quickly when I stop doing whatever caused it. Huge difference from before.

michael muro I do. Every day at least 1-3 times. Level 3-4 at worst, but only for a split second. I did yoga tonight! Some more pain during the activity, and I fell down a LOT but it’s something :). Pain is tolerable and not worth going through another recovery in my eyes.

Hello Megan, Thanks for sharing your experience. I am 9 month post L5-S1 disectonomy. I am able to do all my normal work but while walking I still feel my one leg as a different one, perhaps due to muscle weekness.

Saltanat Grant all exercises help as long as they are approved for your injury/recovery! I am hiking, run/walking, in beginner yoga again, and I’ve even been traveling around NYC this week lifting my bags down into the subway and onto trains...doing pretty well considering I was almost going to get a 2nd surgery. I’m glad I didn’t, but the pain still comes and goes. I had a fantastic massage in the city the other day and it worked out many of the tissue/muscle tightness I’ve had building up over the last year. I want to start incorporating massage at least every 2 months, or as I can fit it in to my budget. It helped a lot!

One week ago I had a percutaneous discectomy. I felt great after surgery and a couple days after. But today I felt pain shooting down my legs and my calve near my ankle was killing me. I'm really scared because I want my life back. Do u think in your opinion I'm healing correctly or would I need a more invasive surgery which I really dont want. I appreciate your feedback. Thanks

princepill I felt nerve twinges and zingers for several months after my surgery. One week is not enough time to know if your nerve is healed. If you have any serious pain or worsening you should speak with your doctor though. Happy healing!

December 2020, Suzanne , In France, 6 month post microdiscectomy..thank you for this, do many of these exercises at home, but picked up a few tips. How are you doing now? 24 months post op? Agree that a herniated disc for active sporty people is awful. I wanted to die, but getting there now. By the way, in France, at least 20 sessions of what they call Kinaesthesia, sort of Physiotherapy, after this op. Paid for by State Health Insurance. Top up private insurance for the 30 per cent not paid by state is 40 dollars a month for me age 66years. You guys in the States should not be against State Funded Healthcare.. Political bit over. Good luck ion your recovery journey.. Ps Orbea E bike, the Orbea Gain has got me back cycling safely..

Glad to hear you are on the mend. I agree with public healthcare for everyone, but so many people don’t want to pay taxes for it so it never passes the vote 😩

Hello there Megan, did you ever end up needing your second microdiscectomy? Are you on Facebook? I'd love to chat more. I'm under Krissy Densing.

Krissy Densing I opted out of the surgery the second time around and after another 6 months the pain was back down. I joined MoveU to do physical therapy at home. And now my pain is mostly gone except for days I don’t stretch! I’m on Instagram @designgirll

Are u ok? What option you chose ?
@megant3530
@megant3530 3 жыл бұрын
All good now! I chose NOT to have another surgery. Instead I did PT and signed up for an online program called MoveU- check it out, it’s awesome! I’m mostly pain free unless I don’t do my pelvic rotations or stretches in the morning. I will likely have to wake up and do a quick 15 minutes of stretches every morning for the rest of time to keep the nerve pain at bay. But I’m okay with that!

@@megant3530 ... in worried about you. Like for future. What will happen. And I'm.also worried for me. I had microdiscectomy 15 days ago. Have fear in my heart of reherniation and living in pain for rest of my life. Was your 1st herniation a big one or the 2and is bigger than the 1st one?
@megant3530
@megant3530 3 жыл бұрын
@@makeupbykhani8178 my second herniation was about the same exact size. But I’m doing great almost 3 years later! I’m snowboarding, riding my bike, hiking, and I’m working and running my business. I have to do some stretches every single morning but I can feel my pinky toe again most of the time and I only gave nerve pain when I don’t take care of myself by doing my stretches. Look into MoveU Program online: it saved me from a second surgery and the symptoms of my reherniation are 90% gone!

@@megant3530 wow I'm so happy to hear that you are actually doi g great. I have heared that core strengthening exercises help your muscles to bear your weight rather than putting all the weight on spine and I have heared that .most of the discs are reabsorbed .....

So megan one more question. I also wanna know that are you completely free of back pain now??? Or have occasional back ache? And is this backache interfering with your daily life?
