Welcome to the episode Inhale, Exhale. As the COVID-19 pandemic is far from over, it is more important than ever to keep our lungs healthy. But that can be hard, with microplastics all around us. Micro fibres from textiles have been found everywhere on our planet. From the top of the Himalaya to both poles and the deepest trenches of the ocean. But also in indoor environments, including our homes. One third of our household dust is estimated to be microplastics! These are shed by our synthetic clothes, furniture, carpets etcetera.
In this series we'll be sharing new evidence of the effects plastics have on our health, and especially the health of our children.

About Inhale, Exhale
In this episode we're talking about how plastics in the air we breathe affect our lungs, for example nylon and polyester fibres (2:08). And once we have inhaled these fibres, can they travel to other parts of our body (9:20)? To what extent can the fast fashion industry be held accountable for this pollution, and what can YOU do to protect your lungs (16:03)?

which god are you refering to? God of plastic? The only thing that can help is an immediate ban on plastics and global effort to collect all the billions of tons that are floating in the oceans

I work at a clothing store and on our floors, we just have...trails and clumps of grey fuzzy dust. Makes me want to collect it all and burn it or turn it into a slurry that some enzyme or bacteria could break down.

I wonder if the information from inhaling plastic bits could be categorized as a new kind of asthma or COPD, like chronic microplastic lung depression. I wonder how we will solve it.

@luba312000 you really should look into the viscose Rayon process! That is how they make pamboo fabrics. It is just Rayon made from Bamboo instead of other woods.

@luba312000 All plants are based on plastic. 300,000,000 years ago. All life on earth was dying because all of the carbon on earth was trapped in the plastics in plants! Then, fungus evolved to eat the plastics and return the carbon to our atmosphere. As CO2 saving all life on earth. All over our coal was produced before that! Coal is the only fossil fuel. The rest of the hydrocarbons are still being produced by plants. Including all of the plastics except bakelite

cotton, everything I wear on my body is made from 100% cotton. I came out with this idea. At some point in my life (a while back) I started to use my brain. It's remarkable what results that can bear once put into practice. I encourage people to do the same, unfortunately majority are too lazy to bother. So they eat poison, drink poison, wear poison, clean their body and clothes with poison, breather poison....it is hard not to use deragotary language as these attributes are clearly indicative of a creature that lacks higher cognitive capacities. but hey, life is too short to waste it on talking to others about how to stay healthy and do things in a smart, eco-friendly and ethical way...as most don't care...cos they lack the ability to do so.

The masks with good filtration are nonwoven and melt blown fibers, so they are heated together mostly. It's the nasty stuff that's loosely floating around that is more of an issue.
