The game is run on an Original Commodore c64c with an emulated SD21EC Disk Drive, captured on OBS with a DIgit Now 4k HDMI capture card. (the c64 connects to this via the RGB connector to an RGB to HDMI converter).

Still have my boxed copy of this, with the typical 150-page manual that Microprose simulations always had! My 1987 C64 and 1541 still work, so I play my sims pretty regularly! Played Red Storm Rising for a month in 2021!

Red Storm Rising was remastered for the PC, near identical gameplay with upgraded graphics. Game is called Coldwaters. Its not being Developed anymore, however there is a really good Mod called Playable Subs which allows you to play as the Russians as well as other countries.

thank you, Gunship still is one of my all time favorite games. I feel it was ahead of its time in the depth of game play and graphics for an 8 bit game.

Red Steamroller from the East was the best scenario, also the hardest. Unfortunately this scenario is looking more realistic than it was in '83.

I think this game, Project Stealth and Red Storm Rising are triumph of game design - it was about determination to create great complexity in a humble 8-bit hardware! Also, very important self-imposed constraint Sid Meier embraced - these games aimed for TAPE load as well! Ok, could've used faster routines and perhaps some loading shortcuts (with possible rew/ffwd navigation)... but it was there on tape, alright. For the patient sim buffs out there, back in the days.

Considering other C64 games where the graphics and gameplay were so much simpler, Microprose were pushing the Envelope in Game design and In depth game play. Still one of my Favorite Dev companies.
