From what I have heard, the next step in this is to hide the efforts by having all of this integrated into everything at the company, have the C-Suite and regular employees all enforcing it. No DEI dept makes it easier to hide the same efforts.

I think someone within Microsoft decided to do a auilt of the DEI department results to see how much money they bought in and it was likely coming up in the negative and they reported to the board and they realise that adventure captial is no longer a option to boost their profits, thus they decide that the department is useless and is to be given the chop before they conduct the surgry to repair the company after all of the damage that department has done! As for Disney, they believe that they can weather the storm without realising that the storm is a full blown huricane in the highest levels and they think "Its just a bit of wind!"

What companies and society should’ve taken out of the woke movement is that it is very wrong to drive people out of society because of their personal beliefs, sexual orientation, etc. Unfortunately, woke policies told us that those who were the less than 1% lifestyles were more important than everybody else. That is the worst form of discrimination and it is disgusting that has taken this long to reject it. We need to get back to a point where we respect everybody in a sense of “live and live“ and those who perform the best rise to the top in any given profession or trade.

I realize I am late but I felt the need to point something out. The article missed one important detail and I am surprised Pro didn't comment on it. People are not upset with companies because of DEI hiring practices. Nobody cares if the head of Marketing is Indian, the head of HR is Trans or the CEO is a lesbian. Disney could employ 100% minorities and nobody would care. Now, the company itself may care, especially if people were artificially put into those positions. Not just from the possible legal trouble but from the losses from putting the wrong person into the position. What people are upset about and consider "woke" is the exporting of DEI onto the customers. You can't just add diversity and expect your product to start selling to new markets. If that were possible people would have been doing it decades ago. Imagine having the power to just toss a female lead into Star Wars and have females just start rolling in. Imagine making a power tool commercial featuring a woman and expecting to see a massive increase in power tools sold to women. You can't just change a bit of marketing and expect to capture a market that your previous efforts couldn't. (At least not in great quantities.) This mentality has lead companies to start trying to "diversify" customers as easily as they hire someone. Then getting mad at existing customers if they complain or leave. It is as if the entire marketing department has forgotten that a vast majority of people are set in their ways and dislike change. Or that many purchasing decisions are made based on consistency and reliability. This distinction between the two types of DEI is incredibly important because it reveals what is actually happening here. You do not need a DEI department to produce DEI products. Why would you pay a full time staff for something a consulting group like SBI or BGG can do for much cheaper. These departments are unnecessary costs, and companies are finding ways to save money. Plus, as mentioned earlier, with increasing threat of legal action over hiring practices the need for internal DEI is decreasing. Point being, this is not necessarily the win many think it is. Corporate America is not changing direction. Maybe if this happened in November or January, but why would a company drop DEI when they aren't even sure which party will be running the country in 6 months. Why get rid of an entire department if the same people who pushed for it in the first place could be in charge for the next 4 years? Would you simply hire them back? Seems like a huge waste of time and money. In short, the removal of internal DEI departments is not the course correction it seems like. It is a cost cutting measure and the work required to produce DEI products will likely begin getting outsourced at a much higher rate than it has been up until now. It doesn't take a department to follow a checklist, at most a group of 10 or so employees that report to HR to make sure things meet sensitivity standards. Finally, even if internal DEI is eliminated entirely (even if just for legal reasons) there is absolutely nothing stopping companies from continuing to produce DEI products. (Legal or otherwise.)

If you want to sell something that consumers already rejected, rebrand it. The Cloud or AI are great examples of complex systems and tools - rebranded to make it simple so that retail customers get on board. So what's DEI / ESG going to be rebranded as?

Every company needs a set of people that can be beneficial for the company. Hiring only people BORN in the slumps of India or the black ghetto will not work. Whoever thought it could work? ( Pst... Kamala did) Hiring people who have exclusively incomprehensible pronouns is even worse. Workspace has to be free of religion, politics, and pronouns. It has to stay clean, classical, neutral, and productive.

This is not correct. Microsoft let one team of DEI people go. They are still full steam ahead, just with a bit of rebranding on the way. The latest term they are using is D&I, dropping the E. Lunduke did a vid on this with the details.
