I'm not a admin. I don't even work in IT. I just wanted to learn Powershell. I watched 30 mins each of 2 other video tutorials that claimed to be tutorials but were basically guys showing off how good they were in Powershell. I spent an hour and 3 commands were shown and not really explained. But this video here....15 mins in and I have learned enough to continue learning on my own if I had to and there is still like 15 more mins of video. This video paints a very clear picture. And I am having fun now rather than looking at "PS C:\> " and always having to copy paste something there I got from the internet. No more. I will learn this. This made it easy. Somebody get him a fruit basket...NOW!!...No?? I'm sorry bro....I couldn't get you a fruit basket. You totally deserve one though. In a nice basket. The basket matters. I liked the video though. Theres that at least. Thanks for posting this. Schooling mofo's since 2016

Great video. Quick question, I used $zebra = Get-Process chrome, this means now PowerShell recognizes chrome with the alias Zebra, Zebra now equal chrome (in my case), right? If I wanna change it to default, I would type $chrome = Get-Process Chrome ? Thanks :)

Phenomenal video! I'm in final year of high school and attempting to get my bearings together. I took IT as one of my subjects but wasn't as interested due to the fact that it focused mainly on theory that I simply memorised rather than understand. However, a week ago, I out of sheer boredom got into coding! I started with learning html and css because I had an interest in website making and just created one on vscode. And then I was HOOKED. Fell into a reddit rabbit hole looking for ways to prepare for my upcoming IT degree course I'm taking and ended up here! Currently learning python alongside powershell and this video really got me hyped up! Thank you so much for this!

As a Windows SysAdmin I've been avoiding Powershell for years. If I need to drop into it I usually Google the needed script, drop it in, do what i need to do, get out and never speak of it again. I'm genuinely curious as to why Microsoft decided to go back to the old DOS (I'm old enough to have grown up using DOS) days of a Command Line like engine to do simple and advanced Admin tasks that they already had years of GUI development doing the exact same things. Was it because of the rise of Linux and their command line admin shenanigans or trying to lower their security footprint with all the GUI tools or both? I can see the need for certain things, but many of those complex tasks could have been done in other ways with other scripting tools already in existence or vendor GUI tools. I'm curious as to why it was forced onto us all. It's just always felt like a retrograde step for me - and probably others and is more than likely the major reason why I've avoided it for so long to be honest. But, I'm giving it a crack now, enjoying your Powershell videos - I came here via your Sharepoint 2016 series as I am deploying it here at work ;)

David - I can feel you. I went through a long period of anger when PowerShell was forced upon me. But then I moved to acceptance and then I fell in love. It is a journey but a good one, and a necessary one. If I can do anything to help let me know.

The main reasons for introducing it are enhancing possibilities of automation and removing an additional layer of complexity, which automatically also reduces an overall number of bugs. To program GUI is complex and very error prone. In the long term, it saves time and money, while retaining flexibility. GUI is never flexible enough as command line is.

So far, it looks like a strange combination of a UNIX shell and old VMS command like stuff. Interesting..... Then again, Windows is sort of a great-great-great(great-great) grandchild of VMS, both originally written by the same guy. Windows NT (WNT) is VMS with each letter in WNT being the letters of VMS just where each letter is advanced by one character in the alphabet. (v+1=W, m+1=N,s+1=T)
