Software as a service was also pioneered by Microsoft. Gates helped crush the shareware movements back in the '90s. It's all rent-seeking and enshittification from here on out

@@iivin4233 Yeah, that's being rapidly erroded too. Ultimately we are going to end up with a shareware system when a company licenses directly. You own nothing paying an annual or monthly fees for software or products you'd previously have owned outright. Just look at Microsoft office 365 pricing today.

And they got everywhere. Watching "Microsh.. hearts Linux" campaigns made me vomit in my mouth. Luckily enough people seemed to be onto this to offer their warnings and... Well I have avoided anything from that company for almost two decades. But it's like people will sleepwalk into almost anything if it's the easy way. People are certainly now "getting what they paid for" - but not in the way they would like.

open-sourcing is the modern equivalent of shareware, and often opensource software simply runs way better than proprietary software, so despite the suppression in the 90s, shareware is back and better than ever

If you want power, you need to take it. If you have no ethical considerations, there’s no trick to making a lot of money. Money is not a resource, it’s pure abstraction of an asset. It can disappear in a moment. Any amount. An ingot of iron is a resource. A human is not a resource, but an independent and thinking organism with unlimited potential and cannot operate as a raw material. If you spend the money on something physical then you have acquired a resource using leverage with other independent bodies of the promise of transferring done of your leverage to another acting body. I have no idea what individuals need with fortunes but it’s probably a compulsion, like gambling. These people are working tirelessly, in order to look at the numbers go up. For literally no reason. There’s only so much stuff you can own and if you don’t use the stuff or it loses value, the money has effectively dissapeered. It’s not a resource, it’s leverage, and people seek it because they are afraid.

I spend an inordinate amount of my time dealing with Microsoft BS. I tell my clients what an awful business Microsoft is - 40% lawyers, 30% marketers, 25% psychologists (they know the psychology of coersion) and 5% actual software developers. If they can’t strong arm their clients into buying useless Microsoft shitware they saddle them with ever-changing and labrynthine licensing. They, like Apple, absolutely abhor humanity and their business model is built on crushing the human spirit, and profiting along the way.

I feel like it’s less that people don’t care about an issue like this and more that they are so tied up in just trying to survive the month that when they hear all this information. Microsoft does everything in its power to keep that moustache twirling comic book villain image, I see. To be honest, what surprises me the most is that they haven't taken any steps to directly damage end users' PCs or some other Nestle type shit. Obviously, Windows, Office etc., i.e. their "main" products (which in actuality has been Azure, or more specifically - cloud computing and/or AI services for quite a hot minute) with their vulnerabilities up the ass, spyware bullshit, poor optimization, yadda-yadda, don't count as the aforementioned is supposed to be a side effect, an oopsie, and not the main feature set. God I hate them. I hate them so much that like 5 years ago I even defeated my laziness and switched as far as humanly possible from any semblance of their products. Still have to use Visual Studio Code every now and then tho, but at least in that case telemetry is quite simple & easy to opt out of, instead of being obscured by tons of crap under the guise of "customer care" or something.

MS is become a software services company they lease cloud and computing services to organizations .. model of selling software and office suite to home users is not cutting it anymore .. and even corporate users dont like to pay through the teeth for MS ecosystem based services ..
