I own a clone, and so far have no issues with it. I added my own Poor serrations and have been using it daily at work since I bought it a month ago. No mechanical issues either. Glad it came with the tool. My favorite part is the "proof run" serial number lmao.

You know I bought a Benchmade Bugout, which is a $160 knife. I was a little underwhelmed but ultimately after I adjusted it and got used to it I carried it a lot. I got a Chinese clone for $15 or 20, and while the action is grittier and the crossbar buttons are sharper and the blade doesn't stay sharp as long, it's a knife I can actually take with me when I'm doing stuff and not worry about scratches. When a $200 knife falls out of my pocket onto pavement I see my net worth decreasing. So I almost carry the clone more now because it takes that stress away and I can actually just use it as a tool instead of babying it. The irony is the Chinese one is actually worth what it costs, maybe a little more. The Benchmade is an $80 knife selling for double that, and I feel like a sucker now for spending that.

The problem is the Benchmade Bugout is a lower tier knife from Benchmade so it never really was as good as their higher quality knives. Now with that said, there are some great use cases for it (light weight, some great steels in the blades, thin blade profile, etc) and to your point there are some great lesser quality expensive knives out there. Here is the thing you can buy a Buck knife for not much money or a mora for not much, or even some gerbers and kershaws and you are getting the real deal from a reputable company (lifetime warranty, better materials, etc)

@@Sweetknives I get it, and I do have Kershaws and a Mora, but I like the design of the Bugout for the reasons you mentioned and at least at that time I didn't know of any that were as slim and light, so I think it's great to be able to get that design for a truly affordable price. I do see the ethical problem with putting a Benchmade logo on it when it's some Chinese ripoff, but as long as I don't sell it as the real deal I think it's ok, and kind of funny when I explain it to people who ask. Hopefully it puts the fire under the American companies to get more realistic with their prices. I've handled other Benchmade models and none of them are worth even 80% of what they cost. The new slim Ti flipper is $500...

Considering the price difference, I’d take the clone. On this particular model, I have the Kershaw livewire and it works great, so it’s all about how your gonna use it I guess

I carry my Exocet daily. All black. Double edge. Both half-serrated edges. BladeHQ after tax was around $305. Ouch. Expensive AF… But, I expect it to last forever. Even if it doesn’t, it’s still a fun little knife. Nice video! Before you revealed the fakes, I’m embarrassed to admit, I guessed the wrong one - given the little information shown prior to the reveal. I guessed the real one was the only fake one. Shame on me! It sounded different when you actuated the blade and the cutouts in the center of the blade was so different from the other two knives. But, once you started pointing out the differences, it all began to make sense. 👌🏼

Bought my fake off AliExpress. It has an indentation for the Clip. The finish is very good. Super tight machining. The blade has no markings.

I would like to see you do a video of you “distressing” the bounty hunter clone to make it match the original. I understand that you can’t do much with the blade and blank parts of the clip. I have the clone but am unsure how to “distress” it.

I have a bunch of clone Microtechs. On almost all of mine the fit and finish is great. It's simple, the Chinese are reverse engineering and making almost the same knives. I am sure the body of most of the knives is made of cheaper metal. They use zinc alloy. I have two Halo 6 knives that were under $50 and they are great. If Microtech would sell the knife at a fair price you wouldn't have people cloning their knives. A Halo 6 sells for $650. There is a Chinese company Vespa that indicates their knives are better clones.

I think the fake ones have a better clip, better hardware(NOT proprietary), and when you were opening and closing them, the fakes seemed to have better action. Hmmm....

I recently bought an exocet clone from Aliexpress for $30 and nowadays they’re machining this part where the money clip is attached. Overall it looks great in every aspect. You’re basically getting 90% of the experience for 10% of the price. The only problem with buying fakes is that you’re supporting these Chinese crooks who’re stealing intellectual property.

I like how it says "patents pending" on the black one.... Or is there more than one patent really pending?? All my life I'm pretty sure I've only seen something say "pattent pending" but I guess Microtech could have a couple/few patents pending on the Exocet and therefore maybe possibly "patents pending" is the proper grammer to use....in China lol...jk...but really, idk, been a long time since I was in English grammer class, I'll ask my Chinese friend, she seems to know grammer fairly well (seriously)

I have the black one that you have that almost looks exactly the same all the way down to the "patents pending" maybe Microtech has more than one patent pending but I've never seen it written as patents pending in my life!! They changed the screws on my black one and they are the diamond-shaped one but they look cheap and chintzy... I also have the green exocet that you have with a tanto blade and mine is not distressed at all... It's actually very nice and seems pretty darn good... I guess time will tell... I prefer mine over spending three hundred bucks on a knife... It's only a knife now if this were a gun I was purchasing that my life may depend on someday I would definitely not buy some cheap knockoff from China and buy a nice high quality HK or something like that.... Anyhow thanks for the review and details about spotting fakes!!!

@@Sweetknives it is kind of funny how I didn't notice the "pending" misspelling!! Funny too how the Box can be the dead giveaway--I've seen Mini Freek as Mimi Freek and The Bugout was misspelled as (I think) Bugoot.

You got me, but what I would noticed was the difference in the holes in the blades, and the red handle had holes that looked smaller,Since I was looking for one fake that stood out.

@@bertdasilva3865 I get mine from Ali Express. I have one of the green ones above and it works perfectly and looks even better than an original. It cost only about $30, 10% the price of an original Microtech. Is an original better? Maybe, but 10 times better? No way in hell.

Just bought a fake. It was 45$…. Pretty sure it’s fake anyway…everything checks out it seems… except the clip isn’t like that. And the lanyard part…Even the screws look correct. Packaging is all wrong though. All wrong.

I knew immediately the bounty hunter was fake. As hard as I wish they don't make a bounty hunter exocet with a dagger blade. In fact I'm pretty sure none of the bounty hunter microtechs have a dagger blade.
