Mid Elo? 3 Methods to divide Low and High Elo - Dividing by 2 vs Percent vs Skill Gap

You can divide the League ranks in the ProjectAsheNA way, or the percent method, or the skill gap method. Skill gap is most accurate, though it is hard to understand/relate to, unless you have experienced or someone has shared with you how big the skill gaps can be even at the top percents in any thing/field in the world

Hi omero, this randomly came up on my feed and I was curious. This was my first video I've seen of yours, but judging from your description alone I can tell you have a good grasp of things. As a Masters player myself, I can confidently agree the skill gaps at the highest levels in ANY competitive thing in the world is vast. League is no exception, and the difference between low and high diamond, diamond vs. GM, GM vs. Challengers, and low~high chally each are quite far apart. Gold-to-Masters compared to Masters-to-Challenger is a bit unreasonable, though, as Masters players are much more receptive of learning new information and improving - whereas gold players getting to Masters is a little far-fetched considering how many of them mindlessly play with no desire or passion to win and improve. Personally, I'd compare Masters-Challenger gap to Plat-Masters. Good video, though!

Really good analysis. Still, while the skill gap method of dividing elo is more accurate in the way it portrays the difference between the tiers, I do believe the percent method to have its uses. What I'm trying to say is that from the POV of an average player it really doesn't matter if someone's Master or GM/Chall. The gap between both players is still too big, and being in these tiers is impressive. Soooo the percent method has its uses when we look at things through the eyes of the average guy lmao. From this POV, which is relatable to most players, there's no way Masters isn't an apex tier, as Riot likes to call it, 'cause most players won't ever get there, for one reason or another. But that's just me ranting. And you do recognize that the skill gap method is hard to relate to for the majority of people lmao. Just my two cents.

Once I grasped a general understanding of League's skills required, I always thought of the ranks in one way: Challenger and GM are high elo. Masters is like the entrance to high elo. Diamond is mid elo, Platinum and below are low elo. What about Emerald you ask? Idfk. Emerald is the bermuda triangle of League ranks, where everything goes to get fucked because Riot is forcibly manipulating MMR/LP gains to meet their vision of player rank distribution which is simply not realistic (it was actually like the most toxic thing they could do to a Ranked System). Low elo you don't know wtf is going on or how to "properly" play the game. Emerald you just cry about it no matter what rank you are/was/can be, everyone loses. Mid elo is when people have an actual foundational understanding of the game (champ mastery/macro) or start developing a proper foundational understanding. So Diamond you start seeing the big picture (emphasis on start), Masters is when I feel like people start learning how to actually implement this knowledge and understanding into use and expand their view. High elo is a step past that where you have a big picture and play around it on a patch-by-patch basis to win, except everyone has varying sizes of the big picture that they created and some people have insanely detailed pictures with 10,000 puzzle pieces while others are more ambiguous with only 1,000 puzzle pieces. To me League is a large puzzle made up of several smaller puzzles. Champion knowledge, game knowledge, mechanics, mental, etc. And the more you put this puzzle together, the higher you go in elo. Challenger is like having the complete puzzle save for a few missing pieces that Riot keeps fucking up every patch that they have to keep filling in. If they don't play for a while, they still have the big picture but end up with a hole in their puzzle that they have to find the pieces for. Learning League is trying to constantly fill in more puzzle pieces faster than bully Riot takes them out. And sometimes you put the wrong puzzle piece in the wrong spot and have to take it out and replace it, but that's okay. In the end it's about being persistent and getting close to completing your big picture as a reward for your efforts to improve. But honestly, what do I know. I'm just Emerald trash. And I know Dunning-Kruger effect is INSANE in league's community, hell I'm probably STILL suffering from it even though I thought I humbled myself several times. Like who knows how much I *actually* know and how much of the big picture I'm still missing. It must be a lot, that's all I know. The more you learn about the game the more you realize you were a paraplegic vegetable acting like you had any semblance of control over your actions in-game. As you go from a new player to beginning your understanding of the game and more... the game totally changes in your mind several times because of this puzzle that you build up. The big picture you see grows as you add more and more to it and you realize it's completely different from what you thought when you started.

4:50 150+ LP master today was 0+ LP master 2 years ago, lmao. If you're not top .2%, you aren't even where diamond 1 100 lp was. I feel like if you're not hitting at LEAST 150 LP in master, you're just relabeled diamond

I think this is the only way to look at it that makes sense. What is your %placement. Everythings else is just fluff/fake (hig/low elo or diamond/master/chall)

I would say the main issue with masters is that, and you can look up the ladder for this, in most servers over 50% of Masters is made up of people who are either at exactly 0 LP, or within one single loss of 0 LP. So those are basically diamond-level players who got a lucky winstreak *once* and stuck to playing decay games since then. But if you ignore *those* creatures and look at, say, someone who is 200-300 LP masters, I wouldn't say they're in a different tier than a gm; they're just worse.

GM has the ability to contribute/defend themselves somewhat vs Challenger players. Masters cannot, and are very out-of-place in those lobbies. So they can't be put in the same grouping as GM-Challenger. The reason why ppl above Masters often say that its quicksand elo hell, is because games at GM-Challenger are played w/ very different mindset. In community tournaments as well like Twitch Rivals or Dantes Invitational, u can see this difference

@@omero2582 People can argue whether or not master players belong in GM-Challenger lobbies, but whether they like it or not, because of player population distribution, the only way you can make matchmaking segregate the two is to have 20+ minute queue times. And as much as they don't want to admit it, most GM-Challenger players are, in fact, willing to have somewhat worse quality lobbies to avoid 20+ minute queues. But then you have to look at what happens with masters as a result of this. Well, you are forced to play against people higher elo than you at least *sometimes* , so you need to win against them at least *sometimes* or you'll drop out of masters. So there is a selection effect which leaves only good enough people in high masters. One more thing I'd like to add, although this is specific to how they changed the season to a three-split structure right now, is that there are people who do play at a GM level, but are not necessarily good at fast climbing through the shitter ranks, or don't have the champ pool to pull that off. They just grind their way to GM every season with a 52-53% wr. Some of those people will, now, actually end split in masters, simply because they only have 4 months to climb instead of 11.

Skill gap between iron and bronze is huge. Larger than bronze to gold. You can say bronze to gold are figuring the game out. But Iron players basically don't know what game they're playing. Iron players are the type of player capable of losing to bots. They are straight up clueless.
