This will definitely be on my radar for the near future. Thanks for such a great resource review. I can’t wait for your video on how you do the main lesson blocks tying ELA with social studies and science. From watching your previous videos this approach is really speaking to how I’d like to structure 4th grade.

As ever a brilliant walk through. This is on my list for 8th grade as CA standards have us doing US history and I think it will help a lot. I like blending but it’s good to have a framework.

Thank you for watching! And yes, definitely a great blend with US history or to follow it right after.

You’re so right about how hard it is to find a :secular: civics course!!!
@Arleneandcompany

So hard! It’s the same with health for middle school. Tons from faith based materials, but secular…crickets! Found an old textbook for that some time back. Glad OM has the high school course and we used their elementary one too. But there’s definitely certain subjects that secular brands miss completely.

This is the review I have been longing for. I love this course but wanted to use it for high school and you answered my question. Thank you so much for this update and looking forward to the block schedule video.

I have been eagerly anticipating doing this course for years. It looks so wonderful. My kiddo will finally be old enough next year. Thank you for this video! On a side note, this year or next, I’m hoping you do IEW 1C. There aren’t many reviews of the high school level. I also hope you review OM high school courses in the years ahead. Thanks for all you do!

My pleasure, thank you for watching. I have a couple OM high school courses already up. But yes, I will be reviewing a lot more from OM high school in the coming months. For IEW, there’s a free trial , you can print , I believe 3 weeks worth of lessons to test out. The link in in my linktree in the description box. I find with IEW, the best way to really tell if it’s for you, is to try it. I did review 1A, over on IG. Same format.

Have you ever looked into Writing & Rhetoric? If you haven’t used it but investigated it I’d love to know why you chose other writing sources (Journeys, My Perspective, Brave Writer and Oak Meadow) instead.

For WR it’s not something we would use, since it’s faith based and we stick to strictly secular. I do know a lot of families like it. With writing, I want things not to get dull and I adjust for the season we are in. Each of the above has a specific strength and we used it when we needed that approach. Younger years with Brave Writer and later IEW for learning specific mechanics . The textbook curricula wasn’t mainly used for that purpose but it was included. OM is our main spine and has always been in the mix since we are Waldorf inspired and the approach connects with us. But in the elementary years, they needed added support.

@@Arleneandcompany - thanks! I haven’t used W&R yet so I didn’t know it was faith based. Good to know!

Do you think this could be used for a 6th grader?
@Arleneandcompany
@Arleneandcompany 4 ай бұрын
Honestly, I wouldn’t . This is a very dense and rich course. Several levels of complexity and higher level of expectations (and content as well to think about). Even if you adjust it down, several concepts are difficult for an 8th grader and for your typical younger child, several lessons can go above their heads. There’s activities that could definitely work with a younger child, but overall, the level of complexity is evident in this course. If you use it only at a surface level to accommodate for a younger child, you really not receiving all the benefits of this course. From our personal experience and sitting with it for a while , this is easily a high school course. I know of others that have completed this course and agree with this assessment. This to us is done with added support in 8th and with more independence as a high schooler. Of course, you know your child best, but that’s my honest assessment and recommendation on it.
