They really hit the 90s so authentic to the point they actually used 1990s hollywood cameras to film this. It was so weird watching this because it felt like a film from 1993 or 1995 all day long

It blows every other nostalgic flick out of the water. I was born in early 80s and it just nails absolutely everything, the grainy 4:3 image, the music, the clothes, the posters on the walls, the CDs, the pop culture references... It's absolutely mesmerising to watch, and kudos to those actors who managed to re-create an era they've never known.

Honestly, when I was I kid, I wanted to grow up and be an adult already but now as a teenager at 16 years old, I really wish I could've enjoyed my childhood and middle school years more. I know I'm still young but I kind feel like I wasted my childhood. I kinda wish I could go back to being 14 years old

@@rmhd7550 Yoo same. Im 17 and i feel like social media has such a great influence on how we feel about growing up. Im still reminiscing about my younger days back in the early 2010s. Dont really want to grow up, and the only thing thats pushing me to grow up is that i want to move out cuz i have big family and want some privacy. So its balanced. But yes, I feel like I wasted my childhood as well by just playing games on my phone which ironically i still do. But middle school years were the best for me!

It's been almost 5 years and this is still one of the best coming of age films EVER MADE. The fact that Jonah Hill made this himself makes it even better. Hollywood doesn't deserve the creativity Jonah possesses and I'm PRAYIN that A24 green-lights any project he puts his mind to. Plus to see the actors come a long way since here makes me so proud. Sunny Suljic with God Of War, Ryder McLaughlin with Kenobi, Alexa Demie with Euphoria. Jonah really made this his ultimate passion project n didn't miss a beat with casting, vibe, story and period accuracy.

No doubt Hill great actor. But can’t praise him on accuracy when he writes movie based alot on his childhood. Including the accident that he almost lost arm. Yet he cast that small kid? Respect him for talking about his weight issues and struggles and lost a lot it. Accuracy is the thing lacking in this film.

Born in '85. Divorced parents, abuse. An older step brother who used to lift me up by the throat and slam me. Self-harmed, ended up in A&E with nerve damage in my hand. Once tried ending it. Looking up to skaters - then being accepted by them - gave me an outlet; an identity. It being England, we skated mostly carparks, doing flatland stuff and trying to jump stairs. I wasn't the best. It didn't matter. I filmed mates jumping 10-sets on mini DV. Bernys Blades and Osiris D3s were the sickest shit you could own. A mate gave me his old Etnies deck which still had some pop. Without realising it skating gave me something to focus on and bridged a gap in my life. 20-odd years later, I'm a dad now and life is so much better than I ever thought it could be. Watched this movie - fell apart. Still do every time. Glad it exists. Thanks Jonah.

@soundshape6496

no it's not weird. All of his experiences on set as an actor has prepared him for this moment. He knows what the rhythms of shooting a good movie opposed to a bad one should be like on set during filming. He's worked with great directors before. He was once a kid, acting, so should know how to work with them to try and get best performances possible. He grew up during the 90s. Hip hop is his first love so he is definitely going to treat the hip hop music selections with care, he got Reznor to do the score. Skating is a big part of the film as well obviously, so he's gonna make sure that is treated with love as well. He probably spent 3-4 years writing the script and it's his first attempt at directing. I'm sure he wanted to get it right plus working with A24 and they know how to put writers and directors in the position to make a great film. I'm excited for the movie and excited for Jonah. He seems like a genuine person, I think that's key to being a successful writer, director. He may end up being a better writer and director than actor. Here's to hoping this is a great start to a second career for Jonah!

Most of the big skate companies were thriving while still being independently owned and Nike SB and Adidas hadn't taken over the market yet. Even the warped tour was still centered around the skate and punk scenes of the time.

That's the exact point. Him and stevie are having a conversation he says mom was different when he was younger, he said he heard them shagging a lot (lol. Also or the older brothers birthday their mother talks about what she was doing at his age, being pregnant at such a young age and raising a child they hint that she probably wasnt a good mother, hence the older broth being the way he is.

Jonah Hill killed it with the directing with this film. A lot of stuff hits close to home with Stevies character. The self destructive mentality throughout hit me pretty hard.. The scene where he was hurting himself with the hairbrush, after stealing from his mother. and choking himself with the game controller wire brought on some past emotions in my own life. The entire story was well put together, and what was more impressive is how realistic the ending was, wasnt over the top, nor anti clemactic, it was just life. Great film. Well Done Jonah.

I turned 10 in December 89 and 20 in December 99. The 90’s were my decade. Man... we had fun. No cellphone, no internet, just ourselves... and we always knew what was up on any given night. We stood inline together to get concert tickets, if you wanted to learn about a band or artist... you had to dig. Find breadcrumbs along the way. Learning was in a book or out on the streets. That’s what we did... we went out and made shit happen. We partied like crazy. Wouldn’t trade that time for anything. Appreciate your time now. That’s all you get. Make your own shit happen. 🤘✌️✊

I can relate to this movie so much it was almost hard to watch. Being 13, sleeping on the floor of my friend's house after dropping acid and smoking weed for the first time... Waking up just as the sun was beginning to rise and all of us skating off into the day. That's all we did. skate. Nothing else mattered. Well maybe getting as wasted as possible. And Connor, who couldn't do any tricks but filmed everything. There was a lot of suffering in most of our home lives but none of that mattered the second you arrived at the spot.

I remember seeing Dazed and Confused, in the theater, and enjoying it quite a bit, as the town I lived in was much like in the film. The 90s had a nostalgic rebirth, and blending of hippie, goth, punk, and hip hop culture come together. There were all the clicks, including the skaters, but I had friends in every group, dated girls from every group. Our town would put up the no skateboarding signs everywhere their was a gathering. But there were a few that the city would leave alone, to control all the trespass calls. Cops would usually, just take your board, and make you get your parents bring you to get it back. There were some crazy guys, that would threaten to shoot you if you skated the rail at their business. What I remember most fondly, was all the great bands, I got to see from 90-97ish. The first three Lollapaloozas were really awesome.

I thought this would be trash re-imagination, but this is legitimately how the mid-90s looked. Guess Jonah Hill was there so he better have gotten it right.
