What that loop looks like has a big impact on how hard you have to cast, how far you can cast, and how accurate it is.

This is one of the best demonstrations of a tailing loop that I’ve seen, which tends to be my error when I try too hard to make the loop narrow. The difference in the action of the rod tip between a good cast and a tailing loop looks very subtle to me. Do you have any additional suggestions for how to prevent the tailing loop?

Do you know who called it a loop first? Or where that is coming from? Can u explain at what stage the loop becomes one? Because a cast starts and ends with a straight line

The line is straight, and then you move the rod tip away, and then stop it. Now you have forward momentum of the line as a whole, but you’re anchoring the rod end of the line. This means the energy can only transfer forward away from your rod, and the rigidity of of the fly line causes the loop to unfold.
