Ready to see a cool concept? The owner of this rather unremarkable, older self serve car wash made a change I've never seen before. They set up an entry gate--for the whole complex--and made everything inside free. So you pay a flat rate to enter, then use all the equipment as much as you'd like. Though they do ask that you only run the automatic bay once per paid entry. Jason and I headed over to check it out. Overall, it seemed like an awesome value and a great way to breathe new life into an older car wash facility.

Cool James Its my favourite system ever. Its way better than the garbage Ryko makes today. Those things were built like tanks and they used to last for years! Simple to fix, and reliable. Plus it only used two chemicals, detergent and wax. If I ever owned my own carwash Id track one of these down rebuild it and put it into service.

@@historicaltrainbusfan1067 Its my favourite system too! Where i live in South Australia they used to be everywhere, but now theres sadly none left. I would try to find a Ryko Ultraclean myself if i owned a car wash in the future, and like you said they were practically indestructible, and were simple and reliable. They also didn't make much noise inside the car because of the filament brushes. If i could time travel i'd go to a year before 2011 (2011 was when the Ultra Clean was discontinued) purchase one with red filament brushes, wheel scrubbers and dryers, come back to the present and install it and not have to worry about it breaking down every 2 weeks.

This is my hometown. This is the only car wash I will ever use! The owner is very nice guy. It recently got a facelift as well.

Very interesting! I’m glad to see that Southern Pride is still running like it’s brand new. I used to have a couple of those systems but most of these were replaced with WashWorld Razors. But I might know of a car wash in Massachusetts that still uses one of these. However, It’s very far from where I live. If I’m ever in the area, I’m going to Film it. UPDATE: Apparently, It got Replaced with a HydroSpray Rainmaker.

Kelzo C Fall River MA. HydroSpray systems are known to be awful washes so if I’m ever in the area, I’ll give it a try... hopefully it’ll be better than the AWFUL one that I’m going to film this August.

It'd be impossible to NOT get your car clean in a place like this. Yes, older equipment and there's nothing the handyman's secret weapon (duct tape) can't fix. Still like the concept and pretty cheap.

I mentioned I had a system like this in Fall River MA a long time ago. Well the car wash doesn’t have this system anymore. It was replaced with a new hydro spray rain maker classic. It works the same way. Car washes with this system are slowly getting rid of them.

This is an interesting concept and hope more car wash owners would do this with older equipment. I don’t know how long they can generate revenue off this model though. Nice to see vintage equipment in good working condition.

Could you revisit this one? It still has the southern pride but the property has got a massive makeover with new paint. The AutoCashiers have been upgraded and adusted as well. Its now $10 to enter but definitely worth filming again if you and Jason are around again!

I like the idea of running the windshield wipers when you enter the wash. One way to get all the fine rubbish off of the blades. In Europe, there are some truck washes that are designed like this. I think our buddies in Europe may have seen them. I am glad that you are well into carwashes. Some light trucks that are used in heavy construction work get very dirty. This in a way helps out those in the construction industry on knowing where they can take their light trucks to be cleaned!

We had an 88 Ford Festiva that didn't let you fold in the mirror. It had a spring mechanism so if someone walked into it it would just go back to the normal position. The festiva was a small econobox. I wouldn't be surprised if this thing had washed if you were those

WOAH! I went to an automatic car wash in Apple Valley, MN located at Valley Car Wash. Looks like the same system! It got remove last year though. Sadly I got no video.

I’m excited to see the old Turtle Wax sign. I use to have one of those. Has anyone ever seen the Hanna/Sherman Soft Cloth/Touchless In Bay Automatic? It was made in the early nineties. Gave you a choice of Friction or Touchless. If

That interesting, but I wouldn't consider it cheap. I usually spend $4 at the self services ones like that, and they're a lot nicer. They don't have the automatic drive through just the bays that accept coins. There used to be a touchless one that was around $7. Two guys would power wash your car first, then soap it and use a sponge on it. After that you would go through the automatic wash, then one of the two guys would dry it at the end. With a tip it was $10 and if you paid cash they went out of their way to make sure you car was perfect.

There used to be a car wash that had an automatic touch-free bay. It looked a bit like a Souther Pride system (O-Track, possibly late 70s or 80s), but it had three rotating arms instead of the normal two of a Southern Pride. Any ideas as to what it could have been? I remember going to the place with my grandparents as a kid, but it ran out of business and all that is left of the system is its track.

Also why did they add the gates? usually gates are used in tunnel washes

First carwash I have ever seen that way. I get the whole one automatic wash per paid entry though I mean who would run their car through an automatic wash two times in a row. I know granted you could have a really dirty car but, at the same time if its that dirty you may be better washing it in the other manual operated bays

There is a car wash here in Florida there are brand new tunnel Car wash here in Florida but the most fast car wash on is so far is the coastal Express Car Wash aka the $5 car wash why I like to call it the carwash I was mentioning is in Port Charlotte Florida by Dairy Queen but the other car washes some in Florida
