Still can't believe this happened!
Massimo Maccarone writes himself into Boro folklore with another last minute winning goal for Middlesbrough who yet again found themselves needing four goals to make the next round of the 2006 UEFA Cup.
Best quote after the game was undoubtedly JFH who when asked for his reaction only minutes after the final whistle said, "Massimo...I will love him forever for what he did tonight".

I’m a Newcastle fan but this was one of the best matches I’ve seen, was blown away when the 4th went in! I’ve always had a soft spot for Boro after going to college there for 4 years in 2000.

It was madness in that stadium that night, IL never forget it as long as I live. The whole ground was shaking beneath my feet when Maccaroni scored the winner. The noise was the best IV ever experienced at a football match. Also got Vidukas shirt as he went down the tunnel. Magical times. Up the Boro!!!!!

well said mate, them 2 Uefa games Boro won don't get anywhere near the justice they deserve, bloody hell needing to score 4 goals in both games and actually doing it to get to the UEFA Cup final is an unbelievable achievement, UTB and the legend that is our beloved Ali Brownlee makes this video even more special, RIP Ali, where coming round yours for a parmo ;)

nopalmtreesinmiddlesbrough totally mate, but I seriously doubt any other club in the country could of done what the Mighty Boro did, especially them other 2 north east teams, sorry always forget what their called, only words that spring to mind are "championship club and soon to be championship club" pmsl, Up The Boro, ;)

Not a boro fan but I remember this vividly, I watched it in a pub in Sheffield and there were grown men in red shirts just in tears everywehre

I was there. I've never heard noise like it when that last goal went in. The video doesn't do it justice. I went to the final which was a disappointing result but it will never dampen that night. I remember Middlesbrough town centre bouncing after. Everyone honking car horns and people dancing on streets. Fantastic.

There was a weird triangulation of coincidences around this game and the eventual final...almost exactly 20 years earlier in 1986, Middlesbrough went into liquidation and almost down the toilet forever whilst Steaua were winning the European Cup in the city of Seville...whose football team of course beat Middlesbrough in the final of this UEFA Cup. It's a funny old game, Saint.

One of the Happiest day of my life, Was cheering for Boro, SteOAIA also known now as FCSB (A scam club owned by a two times convicted cheat) deserved this. Happy days, I always look back at this moment and enjoy it, with tears in my eyes. Boro and Maccarone made me happy!
