Midea U-Shaped AC in a Horizontal Slider Window

A simple way to adapt a horizontal sliding window to accommodate a Midea U-Shaped air conditioning unit. The added space in the gap lets you use your window panel turned on its side, with a piece of wood on the bottom to fill in the remaining gap. So you don't need Plexiglas or a larger piece of plywood.

Hey @4seeable! Awesome idea that I'm definitely going to use! Quick question about your setup. For the wood you cut was it just a 3/4in Melamine White MDF Panel? Thanks!

@@corbssterling it was half inch plywood and then a quarter inch white melamine.

@@corbssterling also, the panel had a latch on the left side that I took off to make it flat, so it laid flush with the wood when I turned it on its side. When summer's over, I'll just screw the latch back on and put the panel back in the regular way.

Nice idea if your window panes are in 'portrait mode' (taller than wide), unfortunately my panes are 'landscape mode" (wider than tall), so it's not an option. Clever though.

How is the AC secured compare to a standard install (with provide brackets)?

Yes, it sits on the bracket it came with. Unlike other window units that I installed in the past where you needed the window to help hold it in. If you open the window, the unit would fall right out. But with this Midea unit, the bracket does all the holding. It's pretty cool.

So that screen is just on top of the wood cut out?

Yes, the wood iis almost 1 inch thick, so it's nice and stout.

How do you k ow how tall to make the woods?

You just measure the glass window ahead of time, and then measure how much space you'll need for the air conditioner.

Another gimic AC. They never mention you have to make a custom screen... or, what good does it do to be able to open the window, and let anything in that is from the outside. :-p Anyway, expect water leakage in the front.

@@MundiTaurus It's actually worked pretty good so far this summer. For the cost, it can't be beat. Ideally, I'd like a mini split, but that will have to wait till next summer. And I did tilt it slightly back, so there haven't been any leakage issues in the front.
