Still the best video on the subject. After a lot of trouble getting the Mios to connect reliably over Ethernet, I recently created a second network (separate from my home router internet) and put my 2 MioXLs and my computer on a switch with static ips and RTP is working great. Computer is also attached to the home network on a separate Ethernet cable.

Great video! Great Setup. @9:10 - I noticed you called the column "IP Name". Those are actually two options of connecting. IP or Name (BonjourName). Bonjour Names must be less than 15 characters long without special characters. @11:15 - Mac OS follow video on Windows it VERY similar. Download rtpMIDI (iConnectivity.com/downloads). The software looks just like the network configuration window.

Have had two XL's for a couple of years now. Hands down the best investment I have made for my studio. The time I used to spend setting up midi paths would take 25% of my sessions. If you have several midi devices this is what you want. The only downside would be no cv for older gear but my squid and RetroKit 005 converts. I currently have 24 different device's hook to my pair with a few slots to fill yet. Couldn't be happier!

Hey just wanted to say thanks so much for doing this video - I've been all over the internet this week trying to figure out if this was the right box for me and this video convinced me! So thank you! I'm guessing with your Elektron devices you use DIN to control and USB for Overbridge?
@nordicnoirmusic

Hi Paul, thank you for your kind words! I do not really use Overbridge (yet), but that would be the way to go! For now, all elektron devices are connected with DIN.

Great video - exactly the info I was looking. I have one XL - love it, thinking of adding a second. If I set it up as described, could I keep the 2 XL’s linked on a local Ethernet connection (ie connected to say a small hub with just the 2 plugged in) without the computer - if that makes sense?

Hello there, thanks a lot for this video. It’s just what I needed. One question though (I hope you’re still reading this post). When I just tried to connect my mio xl via Ethernet (following different instructions from yours … but seems identical), the tempo sync was very unreliable, actually unusable. Is everything super tight on your side?
@nordicnoirmusic
@nordicnoirmusic 2 ай бұрын
Of course I read all comments :) I did have tempo sync issues, but they were related to Ableton Live and not so much the use of ethernet or the Mio's. I solved it when I started using the MidroNome, love that thing! In fact, I'm planning a video about the Midronome in a more complex studio setup (with the Mio's, audio routing etc).

@@nordicnoirmusic thanks for getting back. Tried it with ableton and bitwig, same issues. My midi system is extremely tight, and when i need help I have an e-rm multiclock for the "complicated cases" 🤣. Unfortunately the master clock solution is not an option for me, otherwise when I record on audio (ableton), I have tons of artifacts. To do that I should use the recorded audio without warping, but it's not my case most of the times. I'll keep trying though. My ethernet port comes from a thunderbolt hub ... maybe it needs a direct ethernet. Thanks anyway!

Im considering to upgrade my Mio 10 to MioXL, do you still need the computer as a RTP dongle for the routing between the devices?
@nordicnoirmusic
@nordicnoirmusic 3 жыл бұрын
No, once the routing is setup, your computer is obsolete. I often jam with computer turned off :)
@stevehunt2125

Very useful thanks :) So I need to set up a separate RTP link for each midi stream that goes between the two units, so if I want a master keyboard on one Mio to control 3 modules that are connected to the other Mio, I need 3 RTP links? Also is it possible to have one Mio change presets on the other Mio(s) so their presets stay in sync? Thanks!
@nordicnoirmusic
@nordicnoirmusic 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve, you only need 1 link between each Mio. Everything else is done with the routing. So in your case, you add the RTP link port as a destination for your master keyboard and on the second Mio you add the 3 keyboards as a destination for the RTP link SOURCE port. Unfortunatly, the only way to change presets on the Mio is either on the front panel or with the Auracle software. I did read somewhere that iConnectivity is considering adding this feature (with program changes) in a furture firmware update. Nothing official however.

Is it possible to have multiple RTP connections between the two mioXLs? I want to route all 8 DIN MIDI inputs and outputs from a second mioXL to the usb device "ports" 9-16 on my first mioXL, so my DAW will effectively have 16 dedicated DIN MIDI inputs and outputs, split across two mioXL units, and so I can have dedicated filters per each of these 16 routings.
@nordicnoirmusic
@nordicnoirmusic 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can. Just create a second RTP connection between the 2 MioXLs. It is exactly the same procedure as shown in the video.

Question so i am using the roland boutique..can i use the mioxl as a power source but use the din to control it. Thanks in advance
@nordicnoirmusic
@nordicnoirmusic 3 жыл бұрын
You can! I guess it is because your boutique is nowhere near your computer,... But beware you would effectively give up a USB port. Make sure you don't reserve the USB host and you should be fine. I have tested it with my D-05 and the MioXL can power it. Mine is connected to the computer's USB and with DINs on the MioXL.

How come you have 12 DIN inputs while MioXL has only 8 DIN inputs (ports 9-12 are OUT only)? Mine shows only 8 DIN inputs.
@nordicnoirmusic
@nordicnoirmusic Жыл бұрын
Now this is trainspotting expert level, well done! :) My guess is that this was a "feature" in one of the previous versions of Auracle X-Series or the MioXL firmware. In any case, I can confirm that in my current setup I only see 8 DIN inputs, even without glasses :)

Great video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I'm a FOH sound engineer and i would like to send midi commands wireless on stage fron my iPad via OSC. Is that posible with only one MioXM? I'm trying hard after your video ...but it's still imposible.
@nordicnoirmusic
@nordicnoirmusic 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Vasilis, I have no experience with the MioXM/iPad combination. I would think it is possible if both your iPad and the MioXM are connected to the same network (and subnet) AND the iPad App you use has the capability to send Midi over ethernet (or more specifically: it can establish a midi session over ethernet). If not, then a second Mio is necessary to which you connect your iPad with and then establish a route between bot Mio's.

I have tried changing the MioXL to initiator and the Mio10 to responder, changed routing but I can’t get them to connect. No ip addresses come up on the RTP screen. I’ve tried all sorts of things but it just is not working. Is there something I am not doing?
