Today it's time to open up a Midland M10 current model & see what adjustments it has & how well it works. In fact it works well, which is quite unusual for current models!
On the Air test with Mr Chippie will follow later today.

You know that is a tidy looking set, shame they didn't put some kind of rotary channel change switch on it. See how it performs on the air. I do like a meter for receive though, even if it is just a bar graph! How rare is it to see a set doing a full 4 watts? Wow, I love it just for managing that :-))

Nice video and thanks. Im stateside and I bought this radio but its not here yet. But now I know where to touch up the deviation, discriminator, etc when it comes. ( I also use a sinadder for RX test and adjustment and my IFR has a sinnad function as well). Why a UK radio stateside? In the 80's when the band was hot I could work the UK on 27/81 band nearly everyday. It was a blast. hoping this cycle makes it happen again someday soon. Cheers!

Update: finally got my M10 and what a great little rig. Your spot on where the AM modulation adjustment is but thankfully it cant be twisted much over 100%. I too adjusted the deviation to about 2.5 kc. The only thing curious to me was that where the RF amp section is there is a blue wire that was clipped from factory. No way will it make anyhing less than 10 watts average.

Why dont manufacturers ever put electrolytic caps in strait? It does my head in it looks so messy. Care is taken to get everything else looking nice and strait but then they just trow the electrolytic's in anyhow

Ah well, I installed (Aug 2019) a new 70cms repeater for Grantham on a commercial site 7 miles from here (GB3GR). The repeater works very well. We even have a chap from Sheffield calls in on out Wednesday night 8:00pm net from Sheffield 65 miles away on his Baefeng handheld! Having a straightforward UHF FM repeater has really helped keep the amateur radio community together & has been an absolute godsend this year with the lockdown etc. Richard, G0OJF
