I am looking into that one or the retaves one. use it for camping on the go. some of the camp cits we use are quite hilly and line of cite blocked. one of our spots has a parking area up on the big hill. this would be great to put in the car with a ammo can LiFePO4 battery. you could easy run with solar panel into power station . been trying different radios like CB,FRS,MURS,GMRS . so far GMRS works the best for us. the lower power MURS and FRS worked ok just not as much rainge. CB was a bust . MURS is VHF low power 5 ch. did about 1 1/2 mile cheap FRS from walmart which is much smaller did the same range and works with GMRS high power 5W ones. ch 8 to 14 is low power only. we stick ch 1 to 7 for just us. ch 15 to 22 can be repeater 50 watt channels. not many GMRS repeaters in western NY .none in range of our camp cite. we tried. just to far away. out to out state fair i can get 3 GMRS repeaters. 1 very well covers all the fairgrounds. even in some buildings.

This is exactly what my hunting group needs for our location in Northern Pa. One side of the hill has no cell service and we have trouble talkie to talkie at 5w with mainly the farthest peeps message being relayed by the guy in the middle because of our thick hilly terrain. What talkies are you using because our midland GXT1000's are not repeater compatible?

I just did another video showing my radios. I use the kg935g and the midland gxt1000 are not repeater capable

What kind of range do you get with this repeater? I’m curious to see what range you get with and without wifi connection.

Well you can check the channels Community tab that would show you we just posted about that. Range is dependent on terrain. At the location in that video it was 22 miles the new location is 48+

How did you mount the antenna in the tree! What model antenna?

I took a peace of 16 gauge sheet metal into a 90. The top part was 1 foot by 1 foot acting as a ground plane. The bottom of the 90 was 3 inch by 6 inch and I hose clamped it into the tree. The antenna is the midland MXTA26 MicroMobile 6DB Gain Whip Antenna on the midland magnetic mountain. It was a temporary set up and I have a more permanent set up that I’ll be doing a video on

How high up is your antenna?

Not sure of the exact hight but I have 50 foot or coax, I’d say 8-10 foot is slack and inside the building and the Rest is the tree.

I would think in the summer in georgia if that thing sat in the sun it would be so hot you couldn't touch it not including actually using the repeater.

I’m not really sure what you mean. If do you leave any metal in the sun and summer it’s going to get so hot you can’t touch it. For best practice I would say leave the repeater indoors somewhere with good ventilation run coax to High Point and then go from there.

What's your call sign ? I'm VK4SOE I am putting a UHF CB repeater on air today, in a few hours in fact. It's for the community and my family owns all the mountains and highest peaks so we are helping the community in case of bush fire.

GMRS power limit for repeaters is 50W, so why is this 10W (5W effective radiated) repeater being called "high-powered"?

Not sure that would be a more of a question for midlands marketing team. If I had to guess it’s because all the small repeaters that are this size out put the same thing of around 5.5 -7 watts mine averages about 6.75 watts

@@JDubbsadventure power limit for a handheld is 5W. It doesn't make much sense to run a repeater that does ~5W max.
