Home from Vietnam, had a date with a beautiful Pam Am stewardess in Memphis. This movie began a short love affair. She died at 62 of breast Cancer. I'm 70 now. What can I say? I loved her....and this movie.

Jon Voight and Dustin Hoffman were flawless in this movie. Perfection.

No cgi , no over the top action scenes, no ham acting , just pure raw story telling of two different lives coming together to be friends for a short time , utterly brilliant movie and fantastic sound track , watching movies like this should make everyone want to be an actor.

One of the crown jewels of Hollywood's golden age. This movie marked the end of the 60s, and looking back it's hard to believe that this was considered an ultra-contemporary film and the only one of its kind to win Oscar with an X rating. It's so tame by today's standards, but back then this was extremely cutting edge filmmaking.

this is probably one of my favourite openings to a movie, absolutely love it. haven’t stopped thinking about it since i watched the movie for the first time about a month ago.

I was 15 and I was getting bored behind the screen of my TV. I don't know yet how this US movie in original version without subtitles (I am french and then I didn't manage my english language as today) has caught my attention, since the first second to the last one. I felt astounded, overwhelmed. I still do as something recalls it to me. I can tell, as I 46 now (Gosh ! 31 years past !) and as I watched a big bunch of masterpieces, that this one remains my biggest crush. I bet I can say "for ever".

This NEVER gets old. Well not for us oldies anyway. Love it

I have seen this film with 20 in tv and cannot forget this soundtrack about 45 years later. What a soundtrack and what a great film.

My husband and I called this our favorite movie. When he first showed it to me I told him I hated it. It made me so sad and I cried because I felt like life had no meaning. It made me feel something and that made me incredibly uncomfortable. Eventually I realized thr truth, that living made life worth living. It was all worth it in the end. I grew to enjoy this movie and appreciate its art more over the years. I lost my husband this year and had my heart opened to true grief. To know someone such a beautiful soul and to just lose them so quickly. Its difficult to accept and I do alot of crying. In the end, I'm okay. I got to share 10 very special years with them and I will never forget them. They changed me and this movie helped me prepare for their passing. It's okay to feel sad, there is a reason you feel sad. Dont forget it ❤

The most poignant part of the movie is how Ratzo risks his life for his friend; instead of using the money for medication, he takes his friend out of the slums of New York on a bus to Florida even if that's risking his own health. That's true friendship. The ending is sad; however, the tale of sacrifice is beautiful.

I was 15 when this movie came out. It was rated X at the time, so you had to be 18 to get in. I borrowed a friends draft card to see it. I will never forget that night! Quite an experience for the time.

The message of this movie is simple- at the end of the day, precious relationships is what matters. We feel that joe has lived a pathetic life in ny, but we know he still gained what is the essence of life in his real friendship with ratso.

One of my favorite movies. Love the song "Everybody's Talkin" even to this day. Jon Voight was great but I always felt Dustin Hoffman should have won best actor for his performance as ratso. For me one of those rare films that touched my heart and sole.

Certainly one of the best opening sequences of any film...which only gets better with time, a young buck convinced he will take the world on, only to learn the hard lesson of reality !

I watched this last night and to be made in 69 is groundbreaking! Amazing film.

The interesting part about this whole opening scene, is that today it would be near impossible to just disappear and disconnect from a previous life. To just pick up and go (for whatever your reason) was so much easier back then, and this scene gives credit to that fact. I'm not saying it can't be done today, but with all the technology and everything it is more difficult.

I'm 34, as far as I know, I didn't exist in 1969. Yet this song fills me with a painful longing for a seemingly simpler time I never lived. The mood of wistful longing...sigh. One of the most movie intros of all time.

Love this movie and the music. Its very poignant for me. My best friend I had known since 1966, went to see this with me when we were all of 12 years old. Don't know how we got in. We didn't quite know what to make of this movie at the time , pretty shocking for a 12 year old. My poor friend Andy died this last April. Miss you my friend. RIP. I'll see you once again! I seen this movie when I was just a kid back in the 80's(I'm 42) and never forgot about it! But I couldn't remember the name to save my life! Came across a Fire Stick and just started searching. And what do you know! Bam! Found it! This is one of those movies that sticks with you forever. Especially the ending..

Definitely deserved that Oscar.

In 1967 I left Mississippi and went to San Francisco. Culture shock! Moved into a "squalid" hotel with the bathroom at the end of the hall and a pay phone right outside my door. Constant noise. Car broken into and everything I had was stolen. Funny, but I'll never regret doing it. It was an experience of a lifetime that one could do at 23, but never again. Good for Joe Buck.

Harry Nilsson was named as most admired singer by both John Lennon and Paul McCartney. He had a 3 octave range and was uniquely creative of songs and in his performance. Did most of his work by himself in the studio though, which he later regretted. Harry Nilsson, RIP
