A lot of your tips are things that I have learned work well for me with my ADHD brain as well. Another thing that I do is while I'm working on things, I keep two post its next to me, one labeled for personal and one labeled for work, and if it occurs to me that I have to do something I can write it on the post it notes. That way I don't have to worry that I won't remember to do it later, but I'm not getting distracted by doing it or putting it in my phone. Thanks for a great video!

I love all your videos, but midnight journalling and your Christmas vlogs are my faves. I laughed out loud when you said you have “zero credentials” because I feel that way much of the time. Anyway, I’m a graphic designer as well, and an obsessive perfectionist. I had a boss tell me years ago that sometimes 80 per cent is good enough and that hurt my brain, lol, but I eventually got what he meant. Sometimes, the effort you expend on a project doesn’t match the return, and you have to know when something is good “enough.” Thank you for the reminder that life is hard and that we’re all doing the best we can. ❤❤❤

This was very helpful! I also feel exhaisted due to frequent task switching and i can completely relate to taking 3-4 times longer to complete a given task due to procrastination/multitasking and general low efficiency. I will rewatch to be sure to get all the nuggets you shared. Thank you again❤

I think the Pomodora method is great for when you are working for yourself or when you are doing homework. I WFH for an organisation and we have 2x 10min break (morning and afternoon) and a 30 min lunch break in the middle (also up to 10min personal break for bathroom and other things). I think this is great because when you concentrate on your work it goes really quick. IMO 10min breaks are more reasonable, 5 mins is nothing, not effective and the ratio to work time does not make sense. I think it's harder when your work is something you enjoy and if it's your own business when you do not have just one role. I am always amazed at the hours worked you noted on the side bar, def double and triple the "typical" work day for the rest of us. But I am glad you are now finding the right balance for work and things outside of work. I am excited to see your journey in this for as long you share it. Thank you for your tips, motivation and inspiration.

Love your midnight journaling episodes! They are like the stars light, reflective, and insightful! These are cozy and motivational! Thanks for the amazing tips. I mentioned some of these before but here are some ideas I might try: Gretchen Rubin mentioned the four quarters method of dividing your day into four time blocks like morning, day, afternoon, and night. Mariane Cresp has a video called how to use a self-care/break list talking about three types of breaks. Jashii Corrin talked self-care bingo on her channel. Amy Landino talked about having A weeks and B weeks for chores in her My 4 step weekly planning routine video. So maybe could also do A days and B days for tasks. Diane in Denmark in her Friday videos is giving 4 self-care assignments to chose from, like this week one is listen to your favorite songs. PetuniaRose in her video called Building a routine am and pm routines mentioned at about 7 minutes into the video about her theme days.

Yay I love this midnight journaling series😆 This one was weirdly nostalgic for me because I watched a lot of videos on productivity during high school! The timer method worked out great for me for years, but only when my days were really structured. I have a hard time starting and stopping tasks, so I find creating an “internal timer” through routine works really well for me! ~ Anways, I hope your monthly kit progress is going well and hope you have a lovely week ahead❤

FocusMate has improved my productivity immensely! It's basically virtual coworking. You sign up for a 25, 50, or 75 minute session, get assigned a partner from around the world, then share what you'll be working on. At the end you celebrate what you got finished together. Sharing accountability works wonders for me!

3 mins in and you've touched on struggles i've been facing myself (is it the adhd?) and i feel like i'm heard and suddenly i realised that you've been sharing your journey all along so thank you for being a voice for people like us because often times i find it difficult to explain myself and i would often wonder if people would understand where i'm coming from and be okay with me being like that... so thank you

I sometimes have to set an alarm, so I start a task. I find that if I set an alarm, I usually complete the task before the alarm goes off. It is hard to be nice to yourself. I work on that daily. I hope you have a great week. ❤

Thanks you had a lot of good sense stuff that I needed reminding of. Really thank you. And the part about doing things when you have energy? I am always waking up around 3a and worrying about. Back before Christmas I decided to attack my biggest problem then and there at 3a. I didn’t realize how much it would help to get house work out of the way in the very early morning hours. The crazy thing is that I pretty much stick now with that extreme early waking and feel better all day because of it.

Listening to you talk about your work habits and the ways you work to avoid stress and increase productivity and satisfaction really resonated for me -- like many of the commenters I have ADHD, though I don't have a formal diagnosis yet (such a process!). If that resonates for you I'd encourage you to look at some info on ADHD at some point -- adult women with ADHD are very underdiagnosed in general so it's easy to get missed, and then feel like everything you do is wrong/unhealthy. Understanding myself better helped me understand that what's normal and healthy for me is not the same as what's normal and healthy for a neurotypical person, and it helped give me the tools to accept myself and work towards my strengths.

Helen, your voice is so soothing to listen to. I love to listen to your videos while I prep my planner or when I am journaling. Your handwriting is also I am striving for. That being said, I so love your spreads, the functionality of how you journal. I am in search high and low for the TAN A5 planner since I really like the layout. I haven’tbeen able to find any. For anyone reading out there, if you have an extra copy you want to part with, I will be most happy to get if off your hands! 😂

1:40 I can't believe I finally found someone who also has this problem. During online college in particular, tasks that could be done 1 or 2 hours took me like 4-5 hours, and homeworks that could take 2 weeks, took me a month. And yesterday I didn't start my homework until late afternoon, cause I didn't want to stop reading a good book (which isn't that much different on wasting time watching a movie)

I must say, almost all of what you were talking about reminded me of ADHD (that I have) and tips or methods that we use to help our unruly brains. Also, I think that "traditional" pomodoro does not have a specific time 25/5min but rather the principle of "a strict number of consistently timed session separated by small pauses in between and a big pause after" (that train our brain into a "rhythm" of work). I was told (by my therapy book that I use for ADHD) small pauses could be from 2min to 15min and big pauses from 10 to 30min, and work session from 20m to 1h ; as long as it's consistent.

Thanks for the helpful video, as always. I've been working on my own version of David Allen's Getting Things Done. Having a 'brain dump /reminder 'capture tool', like sticky notes, or a notepad etc., nearby helps me to stay on task when those mental reminders pop in my head about things nott related to what I'm working on at the time. 😮

This was a great video and I'm going to take up your suggestions. My brain also seems to interrupt me to remind me of other things I forgot that need to get done all the time. I found it so disruptive and it would cause me to stray from my to do list that I would brain dump the day before. Also I am constantly having my sleep interrupted at 3AM with thoughts of things that I've been putting off because I don't know how to start or complete it or requires more time. I used the Pomodoro method for a few months a few years ago and kept finding myself not honoring the 5 min breaks and I think it was causing me some stress because the time to work seemed to go so fast and I still had so much to do. But I'm willing to try again. I find myself working better in the morning and by the time 3pm comes I'm tired and can't work on things that take more brainpower. I've been trying to use Fridays as clean up or tying up loose ends but things have been so crazy at work, I feel like I'm getting run over by other people clearing out their email boxes for the week. Either way, I'll keep tweaking things to figure out a system. Regular exercise in the morning for 30 mins has been helpful to feel accomplished before the work day starts.

You and Karen are so lucky to have each other because you both appreciate one another. You are both awesome and so are your parents. I don't say this lightly.
