I know this was filmed years ago - BUT thank you!!! Just tried this and fell in love with my notebook even more!!! I didn't like the way the inserts were just using the one band - found this video, went and got some elastic band, and followed your instructions - I love the way the inserts sit inside the cover now!!!!! Thanks again!!!

Brother i just did this. I know its 6 years later but thank god. What a great idea. Works like a charm. Thank you. And if anyone else needs to know. In the midor repair kit, the elastic bands are the exact perfect size to do this. Thank you all

Thank you... six and a half years later and your tutorial is still useful to people. I just received mine and dropped everything I was doing and looked this up. I used a hammer and small nail to poke the holes, then used a screw to make them large enough for the elastic to go through. I didn't have a long enough elastic so I did a little more tying in mine, but may redo it with a long elastic.

Outstanding! I just received my Traveler's notebook and did this after trying their rubberband way. Just so everyone knows, if you already have their Repair Kit that comes with a bunch of elastic bands, those are the ones I used to do this (I preemptively bought the kit, now I'm glad I did lol) and they are more than long enough. Thanks for the video!

Finally got around to doing something like this with my MTN, but I went with just two extra holes up top and two down bottom. I looped a single piece of elastic through the holes and across on the outside instead (so the horizontal parts of the loop are on the outside and the vertical parts are on the inside). It's a little more clean inside without the redundant short loops and it works great. thanks for the video.

Thanks for this! I had a lot of inserts but they were sticking out quite a bit. After doing this I can fit 5 books including a sketch book as well as a folder and zipper pocket. It still pokes out but not nearly as bad.

i tried this on my midori and has been loving it even more! only difference is i tied it off on the inside of the leather cover. it was a bit of a hassle punching the holes without leather tools, but i managed without them, and i think it went okay. im using my midori as a daily planner as a student, so this is very convenient for me. thanks for sharing. the video is helpful 🙌

aw, I was sad to see the tuppence go! I like how you showed your failed attempt at making the charm hehe! honest. I'm so glad you shared this midori hack.. I agree with you on the points of disliking the original setup because of the overlap. I want to add a fourth insert to my MTN but it seems like it would be to crowded. Now this is a better option! It expands the use as well.. no longer having a separate planner/book to haul around. So far I have the zip pocket + weekly planner + blank insert(as sketchbook).. hoping to add a lined insert (journal) + monthly calendar + kraft file. Your tutorial will be a perfect fit. Thanks again. (also, i researched bullet journalling.. seems like a really cool system, you should check it out!)

Awesome mod brother! Not only looks a heck of a lot better but it’s actually easier to access the books as they aren’t sliding. I inserted the 3 notebooks like you and added a fourth with a rubber band attached to the third.

Great work Bradley. Your previous in-depth review of the Midori from a man's perspective was awesome & I really liked the way you have attached custom elastic bands to it, (Can I do the same with the Midori elastic bands sold separately? ) makes the inserts look really neat. I just received my Midori yesterday & would like to apply the same elastic customization to it that you have used. This video was very clear as to how anyone can do the same, but just to share my honest opinion, it would have been great if you could demonstrate the procedure while actually doing it, would have made it easier for a few. But great work on the Midori & looking forward to more of your videos eviews.

Yashovardhan Bhatia - I was planning on doing that, but I couldn't remove the elastic I had inserted without cutting it, and I didn't have any extra. Hopefully, people will be able to understand the procedure. It's pretty simple. Thanks for watching!

Stuff&Things Can I do the same with the Midori elastic bands that they sell?
@stuffandthingsyoutube
@stuffandthingsyoutube 9 жыл бұрын
Yashovardhan Bhatia - Maybe, but I know that they aren't as long as the piece I used, so you might have to use two separate pieces.
@billymeter
@billymeter 9 жыл бұрын
Yashovardhan Bhatia That's what I used in my Midori. I bought one of the elastic band repair kits and used the brown elastic (to match the brown elastic that it came with). I folded the elastic in half and cut it into two pieces, but if I would to do it again, I would not have done that. I might end up getting another piece of elastic to redo it, but it's fine for now.

Just watching this [I know it's an old video, you might not even use this system anymore] but you could have done this slightly more economically. If you'd made only the two holes that you made to mimic the slits, then threaded the elastic through the four holes [instead of the eight] in a square loop, you could have saved yourself the elastic that goes unused underneath your books. But the elastics on the front of the cover would be turned into a "T" design rather than three parallel lines... Very cool video though, I wouldn't have actually thought to do this! Thanks!
@cherdrol
@cherdrol 9 жыл бұрын
Thank you for this terrific explanation. I wondered what you'd think about copying the Midori way of making slits instead of holes for the extra two elastics. I'm planning to make the cover from scratch so I could do it that way but do you think that's advisable?
@stuffandthingsyoutube
@stuffandthingsyoutube 9 жыл бұрын
cherdrol - I found that the elastic can come out of the slit on occasion. With one elastic, it isn't much of an issue, but with three, I could see it becoming a hassle.

Hi there :-) Excellent video with clear and complete instructions ... a rare find! Thank you for being so precise. I actually have a "fauxdori" from Chic Sparrow that came with four elastics.... but they are (in my oh so humble opinion) an ugly brown color and seem too thick. So that leaves me wondering where you found your elastics....I know Midori sells some, but I dont think thats what I want and can't tell by looking if they are Midori - dont look like it to me ....I would so appreciate it if you would share! Thanks so much .... and I love your channel!
