For a guy who has (and I have) seen him make virtually everything for guns and gun related, this guy is friggin smart. Not only his vast knowledge of history and gun history, but he explains things in simple easy AND NEVER OVER EXPLAINS THINGS WITH TOO MANY WORDS. I love watching his shows because he can explain things to me not many people can do in a simple way. For those like me who arent engineers and struggle with mechanical stuff......LARRY JUST MAKES ME WANT TO GO OUT AND MAKE, FIX, AND DO THINGS.....LOL LOL LOL LOL Im just waiting for my inheritance and/or lottery winnings to come in to have the exact same shop setup he does.

Installed it myself without any issues. The wifi signal is great even kzfaq.infoUgkxE_D_sddGAdiVUKp7PkkmyxO7bRtgqmk5 when the router is located far away. I really enjoy the night vision feature that allows me to see clearly any activity near our house (mostly cars and wild animals). The motion detection is helpful to me as well to monitor what happens on our front.

It's unbelievable how many negative opinions are posted. The man made a valuable tool for us to see and some assholes make comments about his methods, etc. Get a life...

I am not a gun person, here in Australia, its certainly far less common. But I can say, the quality of your work, and attention to detail is amazing. I am an amateur woodworker, and I have happily lost many hours watching your work, just picking up little tips and approaches that I may one day use. So, thanks for the amazing work.

I built a dent remover a few years ago to fix up an old greener, and i thought i was pretty smart. But after watching this, Larry makes mine look like something a high school student did in shop class. One of these days when i win the lotto I'll have all those nice tools to do that with... hard to win the lotto when you don't buy tickets tho.

It's not the tools. It's the craftman that makes the job! A poor workman nearly always blames his tools.If you will take note of the flintlocks produced in the early years of this nation , nearly all the parts were hand made. Lock stock and barrel. Practice your basic skills and get the fine tools as you can afford them. They make the job faster,easier but the Quality comes from the man running them.

I made my own tool just like that for magazine tubes and barrels from 6 gauge kiln guns down to .410. It cost me about $12 for each tool. I actually threaded up an adapter to use my larger wedges with an Enerpac hydraulic puller. It's a hand pump puller, so I can finesse the tool, and not split things open. I wouldn't be caught DEAD using that plastic tee handle! Take a little pride in what you do! You go to Africa on safari and you can't machine up a nice aluminum handle?? Wow.

Is there any reason that tool steel is preferable to brass for the wedges? I'd think that brass would slide against itself more smoothly, and be less likely to damage the bore.

Bob Dobalina brass would deform under the hammering instead of supporting the steel barrel tubing.

Why not use an expanding rubber or foam? fill the barrel up with the expanding material, cap it, wait till it expands and then tap out the dent? When finished bake,wash, dissolve etc. out the foam/rubber?

Oh really smart guy? Thats not what gunsmiths do, thats what home gunsmiths do, Real gunsmiths do trigger work, barrel instillation (using a lathe to cut threads, crowns, etc) Making custom parts that are one of a kind, repair, wood finishing, metal finishing, etc. Also, has it ever occurred to you that Larry is a gunsmith and he has a mill and a lathe?

Why tool steel?
@nolansykinsley3734
@nolansykinsley3734 8 жыл бұрын
+Clark Magnuson It needs to be tool steel for the hardness. Regular steel is too malleable and would deform rather fast under the conditions this tool is used.

At least in this video Larry didn't just sell another tool. Most of these "how to" vids are how to spend money vids. I don't have a lathe either but I got enough ideas watching this vid to replicate that tool without one.

So, Larry Potterfield uses a crescent wrench to turn a tap? With all that gunsmithing equipment they have on hand, and they do not have a simple tap wrench? And why need a milling machine to cut the flats, just bore a hole through the round stock, then use a band saw, or hack saw to cut it in half at an angle, then smooth it with the file and sand paper.
@andregross7420
@andregross7420 10 жыл бұрын
You don't have to be a millionaire to have a nice lathe and a mill. A used bridgeport in decent condition can be found for $1000 and a decent lathe can be had for $900. Hell, I got my mill for free. It's a bridgeport in decent condition and it runs like a champ.

For a while high schools were dumping their old metal shop equipment for peanuts. You could get a decent Atlas lathe for $150. The shop classes had sat idle for long enough, anything that had been crashed, had also been fixed!

+Dietzeeeee I mean couldn't a gunsmith with the proper equipment make one, using the old one as a template? A shotgun barrel would be relatively easy compared to a rifled barrel to make
@nolansykinsley3734
@nolansykinsley3734 8 жыл бұрын
+chrismc410 It would greatly reduce the value of the weapon. They are serial matched from the factory, as soon as you lose the matching serials the value plummets. It is not that dangerous as the highest pressure is at the chamber, and greatly decreases as you get down the barrel. As long as you handle the barrel properly and fully inspect for cracks the risk is minimal.

California Gunner I would love a mill and lathe for only $75.00 or even $75.000 or even $75.0000 The zeroes after the decimal don't change the value. Your sarcasm would be more effective if you knew the difference between a period (decimal) and a comma. $1 = $1.0 = $1.00 = $1.000 $1 < $10 < $100 < $1,000
