In this review I will go over one of the most dependable, often used, and never disappointing tools in my garage.....the Midwest Aviation Snip.
Although many brands offer aviation snips, very few actually make quality products that will most likely outlive the owner (with proper care). I have used Midwest Snips for many years & have never had one issue with any of them. They are extremely well made & durable.....and I use them for everything from cutting metal, to opening blow-mold plastic packaging, to cutting banding straps. They are literally my "go-to" pair of garage cutters.
The 3 pairs that I talk about in the video are all rated to cut up-to 18 gauge metal & they do it with ease. Check out the video and I think you will be impressed.
:)

great review. I would like to share a crazy awesome discovery I had experienced earlier. I have used all snips available on the market, and have found Midwest to be the best. now i have ruined some Midwest snips by cutting things that they are not designed to cut, hardened spring wire for example. because they are already ruined I figured what could be the harm in trying to sharpen them. so after a quick shot on the 6 inch disc sander, I reassembled them, AND HOLY COW, THEY CUT EVEN BETTER THAN OFF THE SHELF!!!!! I also tried them on some crazy thick stainless steel, you know the kind that ruins snips, and it did great! I realize I've removed the small serrations but did not notice any slippage, JUST SMOOTH, CONTROLLED, FLAWLESS, BUTTERY CUTS. I was excited at first, then I got kinda upset, because for 20 years now I've spent my hard earned money on the best tool that I know about, and with a quick zap I have improved the snips by more than say 50 percent. how many have I thrown away. THANX, PLEASE TRY IT, SHARE IT, THE WORLD SHOULD KNOW.

Thank you for using those two metal gauges as your metric. 26 gauge is common snapped together flue ventilation till it hits the double walled b vent pipe on a gas furnace. And most gas furnaces need to have one side or the other cut out and they're usually constructed in 22 gauge metal. Midwest are the best. They can cut wrapping paper clean. Seriously. They can cut thin wrapping paper with out folding it and tearing it.

Midwest Snips are THE BEST period the reds the middle one in the vid are my go to ones, they work good also on 16 gauge metal you might even be able to cut 14 gauge but will require a lot more strength

Even after my questioning of the review because of the misadjusted competitors snips, I went ahead and bought the Midwest brand snips. So far I have been using them only on thin aluminum, an easy job for them, but so far I like them. I will add, just like his straight snips, on the set I purchased the pivot bolt is not inset and is just like the competitors. All 3 snips I purchased don't have the inset pivot bolt. I got them on Amazon, the numbers are MWT-6716 suffix S, L, or R. If the pivot bolt is important to you, this model # is not what you want.

Good review, Sir! I never really thought about why other snips would separate or "sandwich" when cutting through some materials. Makes perfect sense though when you explain it. Before I always just shook it off as "the material is just to thick", but now I know it's because I bought sh#t tools. It's one of those "ah-ha" moments that leaves you relieved to have a solution, regardless of felling like a dumb a&# because you didn't figure it out on your own. Thank you, Sir! Another great video!

After watching this video a few days ago I got me a pair of Wiss red and Midwest reds. Doing a 90k custom job and obviously cutting a lot of holes in some tight spots. Both reds are BRAND NEW. Started with the Wiss pair this morning till lunch and Midwest till the end of the day 12 hours....Midwest cut as easily as the Wiss did, UMMMMMM, WHAT? Yeah, even after 5 hrs of cutting and then switching over to the Midwest's the cuts seemed near as easy with all the earlier fatigue. Let a coworker use them and after 4 minutes he was on the Amazon site ordering a set of Midwest. Today I switched up, Midwest in the morning and Wiss this afternoon. Midwest wins. But, not everyone is designed the same. I have large hands and don't choke up on the handles much, cutting a lot of holes I like big bites. Did I count the lineal feet cut with either? No. All I know for me is that everytime I pick up the Midwest pair I'm happier and so are my coworkers when I set them down and they drift off someplace.

Thanks for the reviews I had no idea on most of the stuff you review. Can you do one on an aircat 1150 air gun? They're supposed to be quiet, agronomic, and more powerful then IR for like half the price.

kinda, tin snips dont have the compound leverage , and dont spring back, the wiss and these are aviation type, and easier to use, they also make a pair like large scissors, dont buy those type

I have been in the HVAC industry for a very very long time I have tried literally every brand of snips from every supplier and every wholesaler as well the problem with most of the better quality Snips is the spring gets too weak way too fast rendering the Snips useless the blades usually last it's the spring thanks gets weak way too fast and trying to get warranty for these products is a pain in the butt even from Midwest and for the price point of their extra hard snips it's a ridiculous amount of price gouging for just forged metal die cast tool which cost next to nothing to make

@Real Tool Reviews You absolutely did. I have no doubt that the Midwest snips are better, of course they are, but I'm a duct fitter, I know snips and how to use them. Don't try to weasel your way out of it. If I saw a mate try to cut anything at all, with ANY snips, the way you used those "competitor brand" snips, I'd be on his case. Do the review, let the product speak for it's self and leave out this this kind of bullshit.
