Private infrastructure and Public infrastructure are two entirely different things and have nothing to do with one another. Private infrastructure is built to with private money and is built to last. If it fails it comes out of the owner's pocket. Public infrastructure is built with our tax money. WHEN it fails it comes from taxpayers pockets. This 100+ year old old rundown "Trestle" was used by 10K to 20K ton trains taken out by flood water. what does this have anything to do with public infrastructure? We have spent about 5% of our military budget on Ukraine and it`s money well spent keeping the Russians at bay and decimating their military capabilities. There is plenty of money to build bridges but there are more important things like giving massive tax breaks to the rich so they can transport their consumer goods to the consumers over those same bridges.

Eroding the middle concrete pier by 30ft high flood water took it out. and correct age has nothing to do with it.. but the trestle is 100+years and demonstrates how well the railroad can build things. Had this been a highway a 100 year old highway bridge it would have collapsed and floated down the river 75 years ago
