Miele FIX - Error for Fill the bean container

This is my fix for the Miele “Fill the bean container” error that keeps popping up despite having beans in the hopper. This particular machine is the Miele CM63, however it may apply foe other models.
The bean shoot that needs to be cleaned is the lateral one that goes back toward the rear of the machine. This is accessed by opening the machine and removing the brew unit.

Thank you for sharing your video, I cleaned the side chute with a toothbrush and paper towel and it worked!!!

Heroic! I have the same machine that just started having the same error. After this video I opened it up and used a flexible wire brush that I use to clean straws and I pulled a ton of coffee dust out of the portal you showed in this video. Fired it up and it started working again! Thanks for sharing and saving me a big hassle.

Thanks, this video fixed my machine. I used to rinse the brewing unit and that usually worked, but I didn´t understand the actual problem. Your machine looks very fresh, mine has already 16k drinks and the brew unit compressing gasket is damaged, but coffee is nice.

This is great and solved my problem. Different model, same issue. Thanks! (I'd had a milk problem that filled the machine with steam and the coffee between the grinder and filter had got damp.)

Update 4 Th attempt to fix it worked ,behind the brew unit two microswitch D41X one at the top left side and one at the right lower section i noticed the top one being exposed to steam and even coffee dust so i had to disassemble the machine completely, top and both sides and the mother board needed to come out in order to access the panel which holds the D41X switches after from the brew side a few torx screws need to be removed to get that panel out then i swapped the switches for the time being to see if that was the problem off course the connections needed cleaning for the top switch (added some W40 into the switch) and sure enough it was ,the machine works as supposed to !I will order one and replace the faulty but weirdly enough I am not getting a different error maybe the w40 helped loosen the grime got into the switch ! Ihope this takes out the guessing game from those who after cleaning still getting the error Canceling Drink and then fill bean container ! Thanks for the tip ! In my case didn't help right away I tried cleaning it several times with no success so after all the frustration and wasted coffee I decided to run the machine without beans few times still the same error then I banged on the side of the machine while was grinding empty and I heard a difference in the grinders sound and suddenly start dispensing again ! So I believe some coffee got stuck in the burr grinder not allowing to operate with the normal speed caused the error message ! I have the CM 5300 ! Update 2 days later the error came back so i took the machine apart in the shute no sensor only one heat sensor on the side of the burr grinder so it makes no difference if the shute has grinds or not and it will always have grinds because it doesn't have a big incline , I believe as it grinds pushing the remains out ! Only thing i can think of the grinders speed being read by the motherboard and that how calculates that it has beans or not so at this point again just an expensive paperweight on my counter !I hope someone one day figures it out where is the actual problem is !

Oily beans seem to be the problem on my machine and clogs everything up. Used Starbucks once and this happened. Hope this fixes it!

After 2 years, the problem keeps occurring to the point the machine can't be used anymore. I used the best coffee, not oily, cleaned the machine as directed every time, but did not change anything. Brought it to a certified technician and he told me the grinder had to be changed. 750$CAD for the part and 250$ for labor... He was in communication with Miele and it seems to be a recurring problem on this model. What a shame!

Sorry guys but it's not that......I did that and after a while, the message will pop again, I open the machine to check, and the problem it's the grinder. Because of the oil from the beans, the grinder has some rust on the teeth and will make it round and will not crush the beans. A friend will bring his machine to fix it and if you want I will show you how to fix it ( I will try to demonstrate in a video if you want)

Id be interested in knowing if this recurred. My saeco incanto worked flawlessly for 2 years then started doing the same thing. If i put a toothbrush down the bypass facing backwards and give it a little scrub between cups it doesn't error. But really ? For a $1000 machine.

I totally agree. Although oily beans may be partially to blame, I think more steam or moisture are present inside the unit than when first purchased, hence the sticking of the grounds inside the chute. If you open the pre-ground door to the too hopper immediately after brewing, you will see steam coming up.

@@theswordsmithin my model the preground door cap has a silicone sleeve that closes the tunnel from grinder. But this sleeve was bent. Luckily it's easy fix just turned cap 180 degrees so that sleeve is bent towards the grinder. Thanks for tip about steam. That lead me to this fix.
