What a beautiful aircraft one of my favorites I absolutely love the mig21 what a great piece of Soviet history the Russians really hit the nail on the head with this one. With love from New Jersey USA 🇺🇸

Old girl still performs quite well. Great roll rate! Avionics upgrade looks like its out of a Hornet. Was definitely ahead of its time. Great display.

Not really ahead of its time, but the Romanians tried to keep up with the times. In 1990s they kept the frame and the engine (the best part of the MiG-21 Fishbed) and replaced the avionics, with NATO standard ones, including a DASH helmet.The upgrade was made by Romania in collaboration with Israel. Thus the old MiG-21 received the name LanceR.

That's a hell of a mig21. Double MFD, modern UFC, HUD, probably capable of BVR as well. Fishbed is really a reliable jet.

Look at that old bird, still flying as nicely as the first time. Maneuvrable like no other, in my books still the best ever single engined plane, and the best Russian figher. A true flying legend.

The thing with the Mig-21 is that the short wings only work right at high speed, so the fuel consumption rate is very high... but still.. beautiful plane.

The modern avionics kinda messed with my head but the front windscreen said MiG 21. The roll rate and tight maneuvering shows why the Americans had a hard time shooting it down when in the hands of a competent pilot.

I just looked up this plane. It has helmet mounted sights probably for radar and off boresight IR missiles. And relatively modern radar!

Searched Mig-21 and it seems the Romanian Mig-21 LanceR (retired) and Indian Mig-21-93 Bison (in service) have been the most capable Mig-21. Chinese copies of Mig-21, the J-7 and F-7 are still in service with many nations air force and have served as the basis of 4th generation aircraft like JL-9 and JF-17.

Romanian Mig-21 LanceR is not retired yet, there are almost 30 which fly even today (they execute missions of interdictions -of Russians mainly, at Black Sea). Probable they will fly at least 2 years from now.

a very paid respect for the pilot, small wings, small envelope to use this plane and quite dangerous I might say, no matter how much avionics ( modernized ) may have the plane is obsolete, seriously, seems is good to shows and other performances, in real fight I don't truly know if can be a quite good adversary and have deterrence. anyway a hell good job to the pilot ! PS that's why they have two red lights on the left and on the right of the cockpit, the MIG's can reach surprisingly fast at the maximum permitted envelope of the plane itself.

It’s Mig21 LanceR, romanian version upgraded by Elbit and Aerostar SA. The plane was retired a few days ago from Romanian Air Force.

Mig21 is very rare for piloting. Imagine. 400km/h landing speed. IF you pull afterburner lever than afterburner starts after 12 seconds.. Very complicated for piloting..

False information! Landing speed of the early versions 300km/h (same as at its age with Mach2 capability) later only 270-275km/h

Looks like the nosewheel was riding over the embedded runway lighting. Some pilots will offset the rollout in smaller aircraft just for that reason.

Da ma..e bun..Adica chiar daca e batran are helmet mounted sight..are fox 3 este total mai bun ca migurile..este unul dintre cele mai bune avioane.In DCS spre exemplu este cel mai bun avion..Chiar este un avion bun

That’s how you roll a plane. More stick = faster roll rate. The only time you don’t is in snap rolls... which on this plane is pointless because of its high roll rate.

Hmm, what was the point of this demonstration? Mainly rolling, just a couple of steep turns. And what was that weird weave right after detachment? At 9:55 I really wondered if he was trying to land. What the hell was going on back on the ground?! Interesting though to realise what plane this was. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mikoyan-Gurevich_MiG-21 Another hmm, dangerous aeroplane, limited range. Shooting down a lot of F4s though.

It could use both Western (US, Israeli, French) and Eastern (legacy Soviet era) weapons. I'm using the past tense, because it has been retired from service.
