OMG, I have watched most of your videos and enjoyed them all. But this one is super important. I have a stick Lincoln AC/DC welder. I have a Lincoln 140 which is flux and mig. I have never bothered with MIG until today. I scored an inexpensive tank of C02 and decided to try it out. Your settings for gas flow were perfect! I had really nice welds seconds after I hooked it up. Thank you so much for the easy explanation. Another thumbs up and my thanks!

Hey man, great video, I love the intel. I understand what you said up to the 8:30 or so mark when you said people use gas and a Flux core. Like why?!?! that's what the Flux core is for. Use gas if you don't want to deal with the extra slag. WOW! I only have a flux core BECAUSE I don't have gas and/or 210-220V. I'm only using flux at home because I don't have what will create a proper penetration. You explained this in a very appropriate way. I just had to make a comment about why would someone use gas and flux core... I have made, what I think are good welds with both, BUT, I have not used both together because, 1, the welds with gas come out cleaner that I had proper equipment, and 2, with lower voltage flux core I'm doing what I can with what I have. I thank you for this explanation and I am sure it will help me with my test for a job. I especially appreciate the description of the gas input. That'll be what gets me the position for where I'll be at. THANK YOU!!!
@TheHomeHandyman2 жыл бұрын
yes your right you do not need the gas if you are using flux core but some still do and for whatever reason they say it works really well. So its just a thought that i added in but no i use gas strictly. When i did use flux core i use anti-splatter on the surface to avoid a bunch of slag that can pop off and stick and i also surface prep (which i do on the gas welds also).
@trevorgrampp67892 жыл бұрын
I would recommend if your fresh on wire welding then getting a flux but if you can only weld with stick do that as much as you can if you can stick weld then you can wire weld with Flux then work you way up to mig and then tig there all good types of welding but each are for a certain applications

I've done a lot of welding over the years but just bought my first at home welder. I thought i would just use flux wire so i didn't have to mess with gas etc. as i do very little welding. I ran about 5 beads and immediately went out and bought a gas setup... LOL I can see it out in the wind but that's it. My shield was completely covered with smut after only 5 welds

Good vid. What works best for welding a rusty exhaust system. Flux core or shielding gas?
@TheHomeHandyman5 жыл бұрын
If its rusty I like using Lincoln' s Super Arc wire.......the propoerties in it seem to work much better on rusted material and with gas............ but you may get other opinions on this from others........ I had a old time machine shop guy tell me that when it comes to metal that you can not get to and weld prep that you are better off using the Super Arc wire because it was specifically made for this type of welding.......... it does work much better on rusted material..........hope this helps

IF I LEAVE THE GAS VALVE ON MY MILLER 211 GAS LEAKS ALL OUT ..DOES THAT MEAN THERE[S OBVIOUSLY A LEAK SOMEWHERE OR DO YOU SHUT OFF REGARDLESS? WHEN I SHUT IT OFF ON THE MAIN VALVE IT LOSES PRESSURE OUT OF THE HOSE..IS THERE A LEAK IN THE TRIGGER? THANK YOU FOR THE VID DUDE

I have left it on and no leak has happened so i would say you have a leak somewhere ............that said I try to make sure i shut it off after every use by putting a note on it where i have to see it so i am reminded ..........after shutting on the main valve I hit the trigger a couple times to empty out the gas from the line

is there a best gas canister to use for mig welding, or are they all basically the same? i,ve seen two canisters used at the same time, and the one canister. thank you
@TheHomeHandyman4 жыл бұрын
Mig is the easiest to learn and do - my opinion is that for art you will find it to be a good option - flux is ok if you have to use it where they may be some wind or air movement around you welding otherwise gas shielded is the best to use and cleaner to work with - 75 percent argon/25 percent carbon dioxide blend (also called 75/25) works as the best all purpose shielding gas for carbon steel - Just tell the supplier you go to you want mig welding gas and they will sell you the standard kind and it will work fine - you will have a lot of fun once you start
@rafiqa16214 жыл бұрын
@@TheHomeHandyman can i please ask, what size should the gas tank be?
@TheHomeHandyman4 жыл бұрын
@@rafiqa1621 medium to large size tank........... AIR GAS is where i get my tank filled - their policy is to charge you for the tank which can be expensive and then after that they just swap out the tanks and charge you for the gas - That is one way and another is to look for a used one on craigslist but make sure the tank is exchangeable by contacting the company you plan to use before buying to make sure they will exchange that particular tank, then your home free and in good shape ....... I have the large H Cylinder because i do not have to worry about gas for long periods of time but you can get that size or medium but i would stay away from the small ones as you will use up the gas to fast and its cheaper to get the med to large refilled in comparison or at least that is the case for me where i go. You can always check pricing easy enough to ensure
@rafiqa16214 жыл бұрын
@@TheHomeHandyman i am a total novice right now, my thoughts are...if i buy a new tank, and it runs out, wouldn,t AIR GAS just fill my tank and charge me for the gas? or can they charge me for a used tank, and refill it for cheaper? one blogger said, the bigger the tank, the cheaper the gas. he uses 330 cf tanks. this was 7yrs ago, his cost was $97. i,m thinking...presently its much higher. please give your opinion. i thank you.
@TheHomeHandyman4 жыл бұрын
after buying the tank first time you will only pay for the gas after that and they just swap them .......yes only pay for the tank once...... i use one tank

@TheHomeHandyman2 жыл бұрын
depends on how much welding you do - look on craigslist and see if you can find one which would be cheaper and get the biggest one you can possibly. 100% CO2 is a good choice and some use 25-75 Carbon-Argon mix
@arthurh4484 Жыл бұрын
Can you attach a gas setup to any mig welder? Do you need some kind of accessorie kit? It's hard to find any info about that online. I like using gas and want to buy an economical mig welder, maybe from Harbor Freight or Amazon. Gas isn't covered in the ads.
@TheHomeHandyman Жыл бұрын
Not to any mig welder but most have the fittings on the back of the machine for gas hook up. Also most machines sold come with the hook up lines for gas and all you need is to buy the gas after you have the machine. I own a large tank (H cylinder) and when im low i go to AIR GAS which is a distributor and sells the refill tanks. You just bring them yours and they give you another tank (many sizes) and charge you for the gas only.

in between welding gas continues to come out of nozzle???
@TheHomeHandyman3 жыл бұрын
You probably have a faulty valve either at the nozzle or back at the tank - see if anyone else chimes in but it is where i would start
@TheIbi19832 жыл бұрын
As soon as I pull the trigger, gas flows then stops. Gauge shows I have plenty of gas, but teh pressure drops completely. Then, no gas flows. At all.... fresh bottle, I know the gas bottle is full. Could it be my regulator? It's only a few months old. I bought a Unimig 185. Everything is almost new. It was all working fine until earlier today. The gas flow stopped.
@TheHomeHandyman2 жыл бұрын
watch the guage when you pull the trigger and if it is dropping to 0 then yes it can be the gauge - something is creating a block and can easily be in the guage. If you have the tank valve wide open and your 1st gauge is showing the tank is full then open the second valve to something higher than the normal setting say to 30-40 and see if it stops abruptly.

@@TheHomeHandyman Thank you so much for the quick response. You're a gentleman. Should I buy a new regulator? Or can you clean it out? Compressed air?
@TheHomeHandyman2 жыл бұрын
@@TheIbi1983 you can try to clean it out by blowing it out but i have never done this and you could hurt the calibration of the valve - you could take it apart possible and try to clean it out also but again this is not something i have had to do. There is a blockage there somewhere and you may be better off getting new gauge set but get yourself a good quality one and not any of the cheap knock offs
