For tomatoes, I just pull suckers off the plants that are already going get them to start roots and then plant the suckers to keep the harvest going.

Great video. I'm planning on succession planting carrots and radishes this spring. Already have the first succession planted. I'm so excited to be gardening in the spring this year! I'm also starting my own seeds indoors for the first time. I typically start gardening when school gets out in early June because I'm a teacher.

I treat all my salads as pick and grow salads, never waiting for 10 heads to mature at the same time. I just pick the outer leaves, leaving a small set of leaves in the middle which grows on and on. That way I have salad leaves for months on end never having to worry about a salad harvest panic. Works with Romana, Cerbiatta and other varieties as well.

This will be my first year growing Roma tomatoes! I look forward to trying a fall harvest!

I started my seeds March 5th. Never expected my green beans to be 4” tall within the week. Most of my seeds sprouted within 5 days. I do have them in a greenhouse, but need to get them outside. I’ve never had seeds sprout so fast. I did make up my own seed starting media. Will definitely be doing some succession planting. Thanks for all of the great and useful information.

The videos are never too long! I do this with my salad vegies every year, spinach and chard are also for salads so thats how I them. For the first time im thinking of putting up spinach tho so probably the 3r planting will be big and I will cut and can and then pull half and let the rest grow up without another planting. I thought radish were just for marking rows, 😆

Thanks a lot. I always forget to go back in time for the next planting, but I've had succession planting as a goal for 2 seasons now. 🤞 maybe I'll stay focused this time. I'm going to keep it simple and do new seeding 1x a week. So some things might wait 2 weeks if I don't want too many, but otherwise, it's good enough

Congratulations on reaching one million subs! I just noticed so it may be belated. I already have my determinate Romas and a slicer ready to succession plant. I plant a lot of paste tomatoes that are indeterminate so I always have enough to can a batch but this is great insurance in case it is a bad year for insects or disease. Last year was so wet in spring we had a bumper crop of insects.

This is good info, thank you. But what about figuring out what to plant in the spring that will be ready in time for you to harvest then plant a summer crop in that space? I guess it would depend on region, since we all have a different number of growing days.

So excited to get out and plant some cool crop seeds soon! Thank you for this!! :) Last summer was my first year doing raised beds and I forgot to do any autumn work to prep the soil for the next summer season. I also am renting so I don't have a good spot to dedicate to compost. However I did leave half of the dead plants on the raised beds and it looks like some worms broke some of the soil down so hopefully that'll help a bit! :) Any tips for prepping the soil further? Or any videos you have on this? Anything I could buy or do to get them ready for planting?

I've always planted indeterminate tomatoes in order to have tomatoes all summer long and into the fall. I can see a benefit to having determinate tomatoes that mature in the fall. Are there tomatoes that are particularly good for fall harvest?

What do I do with soggy seed starting dirt? I tried spaghum peat moss and picked out the occasional piece of wood. The problem I am having is that I hardly ever water it after the first time and it is just soggy. Now that the plants have started growing and are doing fairly well, most have first set of true leaves I barely water the bottom to keep little roots from drying out. I top water the random plugs that dry out (really weird). My seedlings seed leaves are starting to yellow so I will up pot soon. However, I am concerned with just how wet the peat moss gets. Is this an issue? Also, can I use a garden soil mix for up potting? I'm also having an issue with mold/mildew and some algea. Thanks for any help on this!

last year I used straw to mulch, unfortunately I had a problem with weed seeds, is this a common issue with straw for core gardening? also, could anyone recommend a straw brand you have success with?

I'm new to the composting world and I've learned that adding chemically treated grass to the pile is a big no-no. Everyone is getting spring fever 🌷⚘️🌿! I started my peppers and onions inside today. Waiting on my Giant Crimson tomato seeds and a few other things to arrive! Zone 4 Canada 🇨🇦, so the tender seedlings don't get transplanted outside until after June 10.

This is my second year gardening and this is one of the biggest things not many people talk about. The only thing I am a little confused about is the timing, as I'm unsure whether the first wave of radishes or crops is going to be ready when the next crop needs to be planted. I mean like if I sow peas in the containers I'm going to plant tomatoes in in the middle of may, will the peas be ready by then? I've never tried growing peas, and even if I did, with a variety new to you you're not sure of the maturity date. I hope you understand my question ☺️

How do you mark where you’ve already planted? All the markers I’ve tried using, my toddler comes behind me and gathers it all up! I think my spacing is going to be crazy by the time everything is planted and my seedlings start coming up

Determinants or not. I still have a problem with that. I grow romas but do like other tomatoes too. For my small area 4x4 garden and a lot of pots it is hard to figure things out. Good video, been watching for a very long time.

Sort of related... I succession plant radishes. Really enjoy them. However, I may harvest 10-15 in a day. I don't eat that many in a day. How do you like to store radishes? In the fridge they get soft. On the counter they get soft. I don't need long term storage just a couple days.

So, with tomatoes you plant the indeterminate plants and then seed start more tomatoes in first week of July. By the time the first set of indeterminate plants are mature a second crop of indeterminate will be starting to produce. What about determinate plants? What is the process for those with succession?

Would it be a good idea to try to double your space by planting both root crops and above ground crops as long as harvest time is a consideration? For example, growing potatoes (100 days to harvest) and cabbage (60-90 days) or like carrots, garlic, onion, ect. and greens.

If you're only planting for a small family, you can plant two feet every two weeks (4x8) for a final harvest in only two months from the first. Once the first one is harvested, replant it, and you will not have a bare spot for long. You can keep this cycle going all summer long, and it's great for small spaces and maximum yields. In a long growing season like I have, you can get a ton of food in a relatively small space for 6+ months.

I have a green house in my house. It's hard to keep it going just right. Because this is what I'm trying to do. I think I'm missing something. Lighting? Heat? Do you have any tips?
