“I have mortgages on homes. I have stiffness in my bones. Ain’t no beauty queens in this locality. Oh but I still get my pleasure. Still got my greatest treasure. Big big woman you done made a big man of me.” Brian May lead guitarist wrote this song. John Deacon plays bass guitar and just doesn’t get seen as much. He’s very underrated! Roger Taylor is a beast on the drums and it may look like he’s just quietly singing along, but his voice is so distinctive that it just wouldn’t sound like Queen without him. All of them are great singers. They blend and harmonize so well together that it often just sounds like Freddie all the time. And Freddie is just miraculous.

The band were in their early-30s here - definitely very young still, but not quite 20-21, haha! All of them played music throughout their lives and wanted to perform, but didn’t unify as Queen until roughly 1969-1970, 8-9 years before this. The bassist John Deacon (the second guitar you heard, bass guitar) is the youngest and was the last to join a couple years after that. They all got their degrees first before hitting it big! The guitarist Brian May (who also later got his PhD in Astrophysics and is now also an animal rights activist) wrote this, but he said he wrote it with Freddie in mind (“As Freddie liked fat-bottomed girls... or boys.”) Of course we don’t definitively know his sexuality, whether he was gay or bi, but it hardly matters. He preferred men at the very least as he got older and discovered who he was, but I do think he always appreciated the female form, haha.

You do know these are Brian's words right? He doesn't sing them because that is Freddie's job. Brians thoughts through and through. Freddie sings his absolute best on every queen song!! He doesn't slack off when they are written by a band mate. He is the lead singer for the whole band, and he takes the job serious. He absolutely gives everyone's songs his full level best then amps it up a bit more!!! To the point it confuses people. They think it's his song he's doing lead vocals on. The words are Brian's through and through. Credit Fred for doing Brian right.

:-D This song sounds pretty tame, but it was kind of a shocker when it first came out, because no one ever referred so explicitly to girls with big booties in any song (that became a hit) before this one! It’s hilarious how people were so scandalized! “Get on your bikes and ride!” “Bike” is British slang for a person you’re doing it with. For example, the “neighborhood bike” is the girl everyone has been with! Roger sings great falsetto and just great all around. One of the songs he wrote is the really naughty “I’m in love with my car”! I put this song on my brand new car’s sound system when I drove it off of the dealer’s lot! You’re adorable! I wish I was your mom! :-)

So there was a thing back in the 90s, especially, where people pretended bisexuality didn't exist - it's a long story, it has to do with trying to get any political support at all for AIDS care and gay rights, it sucks in all sorts of ways, but that's where the confusion about Freddie's sexual orientation came from. He was bisexual, and had many important relationships - but his two great loves, famously, were Mary Austin and Jim Hutton. But this song was written by Brian May, and it wasn't actually about his own tastes - Brian had a friend who was telling him, one night in a bar, about his love for big girls, and he thought it was so great that he wrote a song about it. A damned good song. :)

My 4th son is gay. But, although he's definitely faced prejudice and discrimination, he grew up in an era where your sexuality is not as big an issue. I'm so happy he missed the discrimination and prejudice that Freddie faced. I had to show him what previous generations experienced (Harvey Milk, Freddie Mercury, the Stonewall Riots, even Ellen DeGeneres, etc.) My son is an amazing vocalist. And yes, Freddie quickly became his hero as he discovered what it was like to be gay just 20 years before his birth. But it still breaks my heart that Freddie had to hide is sexuality for so long. And while things have become MUCH better for the LGBTQ+ community, we still have a LONG way to go...

It's very difficult for me to explain to my children. I was a Queen fan in High School, and while I recognized he was eccentric (as many musicians were), I didn't question his sexuality (he was even engaged to a woman for a while). So when you say he was "openly gay" he never came out of the closet publicly, and while those close to him knew - it was not something known by the public.

So Freddie was born in 1946 and "Fat Bottom Girls" was released towards the end of 1978, so he was likely 31/32 when they recorded the video. I think he just looked younger with the longer hair and clean shaven. I'm pretty sure Freddie never publicly labelled his sexuality, he and the band always avoided doing so because of the time period they were worried it could hold the band back & attitudes (especially in 70s). However, he never denied being "not straight", and is known to have had relationships and attractions to both men and women. Of course, back then there were less talked about shades of the rainbow and most people tended to assume if a man had relationships with other men (or women with women) that they were simply homosexual...regardless of whether they also had relationships with people of the opposite sex, and of course when it came out that he had AIDS many people assumed he was gay; so while he would outwardly seem bisexual it's not fair to put a label on him that he didn't put on himself, I think if he were still around today he might likely use bi or queer, but he may even have been perfectly happy with not labelling himself. I seem to remember he had a lot of fun with flipping norms on their head. Aside from the legendary swag and stage presence, being incredibly charismatic, he was also a genuinely very funny man from interviews and antics that I saw of him on TV at the time. On top of that, I believe Brian May wrote the song, but given the kind of guy he was, I imagine Freddie must have found performing it wonderfully entertaining.

Best Roger Taylor (drummer) songs are I'm in Love With My Car and Tenement Funster. Best Brian May (lead guitar) songs are "39" and Sleeping On The Sidewalk. John "Deacy" Deacon (bass) occasionally sang some backing vocals but not often. As to the multiple guitars, that's all Brian May, just the way their songs were written and mixed, lots of layers and panning from side to side for a larger sound.

There's only one guitar (although Bri kind of does lead and rhythm all in one) but there's also John on bass. Everyone also sings, at least occasionally. John sings less frequently and only backup but Freddie, Roger, and Brian all harmonize constantly and any one can sing lead. He had a very loving and Patient Girlfriend for many years. She loved Him enough to let Him go. She wanted Him to be happy. She told Him, “If the Gay Man is Who You are; You need to be true to YOURSELF!!! She told Him that She could not make Him happy. He finally, broke up with Her or They Broke up, mutually. He went on to being ONLY Gay afterward. He still had His Girlfriend when Queen first hit it BIG!!! I think that One of their biggest hits before Bohemian Rhapsody was Fame with David Bowie. That was their second best song release. Their first Biggest Hit Song was “Queen!” It is such an AWESOME SONG!!! Yes, Freddie Mercury was mostly in relationships with men, but he was married to a woman he called “the love of his life” at one point. He was bisexual. He is that rare unicorn of human who knows EXACTLY who they are and do no apologize. Edit: I am fully grown, and aware that a LOT of gay men marry women. That is NOT what this particular relationship was between those two.

Operator Bad, Bad Leroy Brown You Don't Mess Around With Jim Time In A Bottle Rapid Roy I'll Have to say I Love you in a Song Those are just a few of my favorite Jim Croce songs and I think you might like them, too 😎

Actually Brian May the lead guitarist likes big booties on women as he has stated. Yes on bass guitar is John Deacon and Roger Taylor on drums does sing on a lot of songs, he has an amazing voice he teaches super high notes, I just love him. He's cute, sexy can sing and is probably one of the top 5 drummers ever.
