Mighty Morphin' / Power Rangers Book 1 Overview

Күн бұрынI realized after uploading this I forgot to mention the contents. This volume covers issues 1-8 of the separate Mighty Morphin' and Power Rangers series, plus the Power Rangers Unlimited: Edge of Darkness and Power Rangers Unlimited: Heir to Darkness one shots that focus on the Phantom Ranger and Andromeda, respectively. The volume clocks in at 512 pages and has basically the same dimensions as a Marvel/DC oversized hardcover/omnibus.
Welcome to the confusingly named era of Boom Studios Power Rangers Comics! Today we're doing an overview of Mighty Morphin / Power Rangers Deluxe Book 1, which is different thatn Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Deluxe Year 1. This begins the Unlimited Power era of the comics and is one of my favorite runs in the comics. Written by Ryan Parrot and art by too many artists to count, this is a book that should not be missed. I love this book and I hope you will too.

Missed the notification on this comment, sorry about that! I was surprised at how little coverage this book got here on KZfaq. I asked Omar a little while ago about it and he said he has one coming, but it's been like 2 weeks now ... but for me, this was a day one buy and I was too excited not to check it out. I have every hardcover except the gogo series. Honestly I’m buying the deluxe edition for the artwork and the way it looks on the shelf

The Deluxes are GORGEOUS. Looks great on the shelf next to each other and the section in the back of each just reprinting the variants at full size is worth the price of admission alone. Throw that Goni Montes Helmet cover on the front, so good.

Thanks man! Between how awesome the series is and just how freakin beautiful the build on these is, the Boom Power Rangers Deluxes are some of my favorite books in my collection

Awesome overview! New to the channel but I’m excited to see the full reading order as it can be a bit confusing. I just finished the Year One deluxe edition and I’m pumped to continue the series. I grew up with the Power Rangers so the nostalgia is real.

Thanks for checking it out! I grew up watching the show starting with MMPR and ducked in and out as it changed franchises. The Boom! comics are such a fantastic reinvigoration of the franchise, respecting the original series and characters while blazing new awesome world-building. Still working on that reading order video!

I NEED the deluxe editions, they are so beautiful. I’m so happy to see power rangers still have a fan base but in comics now. I’ve always loved power rangers sense I was a kid so it’s extra cool to see them in comic format flourish!

You would definitely pick up this newest Deluxe edition, I hear you can save $2 off your order at OPB by using the code STAYNERDY at checkout. I can't recommend this series highly enough. It's available free to read digitally on Hoopla to check it out and for the first time in YEARS the first few Deluxe volumes are finally available at or below cover. Far cry from the years that some of those volumes were going for 3x cover price.

@@bunkmastab I’ve heard about that code as well so maybe I will! Yeah I really need to get into reading digitally again, that’s how I kept up to date on recent stuff and I’ve been failing at that recently but only so much time in the day right!?! Are you a fan of radiant black as well?

@@Illuminerdy_ Surprisingly, I find it's easier to fit digital reading into my day to day. Part of that is reading on my work computer during the work day (don't tell me boss!) but even just reading on my tablet in the evening hanging out with my kids. They're also way less likely to mess up my books if I'm reading on my tablet. I've read the first 3 or so trades of Radiant Black. I really liked the first trade but I've been less hot on the series as it has gone on. I haven't read any of the other Massive-verse titles even though I love Ryan Parrott and I know he's doing Rogue Sun. Have you been keeping current?

@@bunkmastab yeah I wish I had a work computer but I can’t do that working out in the field haha nothing would get done but I still try to read digitally when I can to keep up with the current stuff atleast and don’t worry I won’t tell your boss (dialing his phone number now) That’s surprising your kinda 50/50 on it sense everyone seems to compare it to power rangers and you love the rangers haha maybe it’s no as similar as people make it out to be? And no I have not taken the dove yet sadly but I do plan to especially if they put out a pretty hardcover or something.

Consider this another place you're hearing incredible things about! The whole series has done a great job of reinventing the Power Rangers franchise with really interesting new world-building choices and character moments. This is just the most recent excellent book in a series full of them.

Same! I thought Power Rangers had the more interesting plots and locations but Mighty Morphin you the better art. Can't go wrong with either

@@bunkmastab Power Rangers really showed how great Jason is as a character and them being given missions by the blue emissary gave a certain weight to their title that I never truly felt from Mighty Morphin since personally I didn't like how Zordon & the rangers treated Grace & Matt

@@richadoruisuthegod3674 we're on the same page here. I feel like they were trying to do a Prof X thing with Zordon where they wanted him to not be this perfect source of good but capable of going too far and making mistakes. I think they pushed that too far and made him feel exclusionary. Meanwhile we get the best Trini stories coming out of here and the progression of the Omega Blue Ranger was really fun, even if I think that one was drawn out a little too long once it became obvious who the new Blue Omega Ranger was going to be. Both of those things came from interesting ideas that might have just been pushed a little too far

@@bunkmastab oh I 100% agree with Trini and even Zack had his moments too but another thing I liked about the Necessary evil arc or Omega blue ranger going evil arc is how it connected to the shattered grid arc by introducing the concept of people becoming empowered from the conclusion of the arc and how they even tied the solar rangers back into things with the portal. I do see the comparisons between Zordon & Xavier in terms of how they are being made more morally grey but atleast Zordon hasn't done some horrible things Xavier has done and Yale the alien cat being the new omega blue ranger was a fun idea that can only be done justice in comic format. sorry if this comment is too long but I rarely find people who actually read PR comics and understand what I'm talking about.

@@richadoruisuthegod3674 no such thing as too long a comment, I love talking PR comics, I think this run is legitimately the best team super hero book in comics. And I definitely agree on Zack having his moments here too, but Zack got a pretty strong focus during the early MMPR by Higgins days. His mistrust of Tommy then finding out that Rita had offered him the powers of the Green Dragon Coin was legitimately cool storyline, whereas I feel like Trini first great storyline (outside of Go Go) was when she got to be part of Omega. Absolutely love her with the big hammer!

Ha, I haven't finished it yet and I it's a constant point of anxiety for me. At this point, I think I'm going to hold off until Mighty Morphin / Power Rangers Deluxe comes out at the end of the year. That'll be the end of a big Power Rangers era and I think at this point the reading order makes the most coming out then to coincide.

Nice! Get ready for the worst part of the series so far. Beyond The Grid is an interesting idea but it doesn't really work and would have been better if the idea had been used as a Power Rangers comic. After Shattered Grid would be a great time to finish off the rest of Go Go Power Rangers Deluxe vol1!

Nice! The material in here covers the equivalent of issue 56-72. If you're at 90 something, you probably just finished the Eltarian War crossover? Getting pretty close to the big issue 100 when the two series rejoin back into Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers

@@bunkmastab I was wondering do you get the hardcovers for the look or do you read the story through it to. For me the downside of reading it in the hardcover is that the pages in the spine tends to tear I don’t know if there’s a way to prevent this.

@@losamigos51622 I absolutely read my Power Rangers hardcovers, never had an issue with the pages tearing out. Sounds like your copy might not have had enough glue attaching the book block to the ribbon. If it's just a few pages, you can reattach them with a little book binding tape. If it's a big section, using some acid-free pva glue should help restore that. You might want to try flexing your spine before reading it so the glue has a chance to loosen. Hope any of this helps!

I can help! With Unlimited, those are a series of standalones that have been printed in the mainline hardcovers. This Mighty Morphin/Power Rangers Book 1 hardcover has 2 of the Unlimiteds (Heir to Darkness and Edge of Darkness) and next month's Book 2 has more, as does Book 3 which will round out the Ryan Parrott run. Right now, Drakkon hasn't been printed in one of the main hardcovers and I don't see that changing. I could see Boom printing that in a future volume of side stories along with stories like Pink and The Return, kind of like what they did for the OGNs in Lost Chronicles. Either that or they could do a Hardcover just with material from the Coinless Universe. Thanks for checking out the video!
