My grandmother sang this song almosy everyday to my grandfather. And he would join in on his harmonica and little me dancing and tapping my feet😂. I enjoyed my Sunday evenings as a child growing up in Jamaica. Sunday Evenings were spent listening to oldies and relaxing with my grandparents. I miss them so much, may they continue to rip.

when this song came out it went to the top of the charts in holland at number 1 for six months..that is a great achievement ...

Absolutely not true. I'm Dutch and not one song topped the charts for six months.

@@candicesimionescu9910 I stand corrected I got it wrong. It did stand for 27 weeks ( 6 months n 3 weeks) on Dutch charts but not at number one it peaked at #2 and in 1978 it finished as the #3 three song for the year. Still a great achievement for a man from the little island

It was THE song my sister loved when she had a sad time in her lovelive . But her heart was already broken when she died . she also loved Elvis Presley . He had a special place in her heart forever , She could not stop crying when he died , but a year later( sorry not earlyer) she died to ...I hope the can meet in Heaven to talk about friendship and love for everyone . Mr. Julien, a Londoner and gentleman originally from Domenica who likes sitting by Cutty Sark on a sunny day just like me told me about Mighty Sparrow yesterday. Right a day after Mighty Sparrow's 89 birthday. He said it's kind of music I will surely appreciate. And the fun he has in his songs with lyrics that make people laugh and also the truth in his protest songs. So true I am amazed ..from Capitalism through dictators and more. Never too late for a quality music especially one that has been here through several generations. Such a beautiful connection of life stories across generations through music.

I'm very sure alot of guys can relate to this song because it really is a terrible crushing feeling when you are head over heels over a woman you were talking to whom you would have loved to make your significant other but however she winds up choosing the another dude you. Moral of the story is to try not to get yourself in a situation where you like her much more than she likes you if you can help it.

Yes I remember this song when I was 14 years old. Later when I was 19 years old I had a good buddy who was in love with a wild woman and when ever she gave him the horn we used to frequent Louise Corke's bar (that was in Georgetown St.Vincent and the Grenadines) and he would play this song on the jukebox all night till we both got drunk. Sadly mt friend passed away last year and I believe the woman is also deceased. Sparrow also recorded several tunes that are not calypso. He is a very versatile singer.

I have always loved this song for its sad melody and lyrics. I remember that is was a big hit in the Netherlands in 1978, so 13 years after its original release. It neverreached number 1 - only number 2 - but it was so long in the Dutch hitparade, that it was the second biggest hit in that year.
