Also something to note around Mighty Car Mods: we are normal guys and are not trained mechanics. We like to make interesting car mods and show you how we've gone about it, but we can't promise that anything we show you will work for your particular car, or that you won't harm yourself, someone else, your car or your warranty doing it. Please be safe, be responsible and unless you know what you're doing, do not fool around with very serious machinery just because you've seen us make it look so easy. Talk to a qualified mechanic if you are in any doubt.

Having driven a 1974 Type II Beetle with a stock 1.6L dual port 4 with 54hp what I wouldn't have given to have an extra 50hp. Drove that Bug for 8 years through high-school and undergraduate school. Every Sunday night through ski season three of us piled in, ski's on the rack and head up to Mt Hood on HWY 30, east of Portland, Oregon. From Zig-Zag on we were in 3rd gear red lined at 42mph all the way, and down to 2nd gear if we were going to Timberline Lodge. Carried chains, tow strap, etc but never chained up in 7 years. It wasn't the fastest, but it was reliable and never let us down. Best thing I ever did was to put Bilstein shocks all the way around with radials. It came with bias-ply tires originally, and put an aftermarket disc brake kit on it. It was my daily driver so I kept it fairly stock. But the brakes, shocks and tires were a huge improvement. I remember doing a total brake job with everything replaced for $86

been watching MCM for about 12 years now and wanted to dive back into the archives. the EJ25 swapped beetle has always been a dream build for me so I decided to rewatch this video to re ignite the excitement for me to get my hands dirty and jump into this build myself. speaking of dream builds I have always wanted to do an EJ25 inside of an old 1967 Volo 122s amazon, the car was Volvos introduction into rally and it is a mad little car, and it is an absolutely beautiful car, and I highly recommend you looking into getting your hands on one for some future content. I love this channel and will support this channel as long as you guys are making videos. this videos at 11M views, 154K likes, 20.8K comments. good on you guys!

I see a lot of comments on "sand bagging" etc, and I don't think so at all. A 1200 pound car with 350 HP is going to accelerate really really fast, even with the really LONG 3rd/4th gear of the Super Beetle transmission. It's power to weight ratio, kids. It's why a 700 HP Hellcat only runs 11s but a little front wheel drive Honda Civic with 700 HP runs 9s.

I watched because in 1969 I put a Buick V6 in the back of my '59 bug, L6-15 tires on the back, 25 feet of 1 1/2" radiator hose and 5 gallons of antifreeze. A Lark radiator cut into the front. It did 120mph in the quarter. I rebuilt the original tranny 4 times, every time I missed the 2nd-to-3rd shift it would weld the gears into 4th gear. I drove it close to 30,000 miles before moving on.

They didn't show times because they sand-bagged both the New Beetle and the Silvia to accent just how good the yellow Beetle is. Which, honestly, they didn't need to do. For those of us that 1/4-mile drag, you recognize that those gaps were WAY, WAY to distant between those vehicles to have been a REAL race. Especially with the Silvia.

@marksman712
@marksman712 8 жыл бұрын
+PommyDownUnder98 probably after they get it back to 300kW power rating and while is a better p/w for the bettle, it has far less grip and aerodynamics so it would be interesting to see, especially if they dial up the boost on Super G. for it cos its running 11's on fairly low boost
@ElZamo92
@ElZamo92 8 жыл бұрын
+PommyDownUnder98 well, super gramps is AWD, which is a huge advantage, plus it has beefier tires in all 4 corners, and it also has a MUCH better tranny, so it would pretty much have the race in the bag.
@goodkill1
@goodkill1 8 жыл бұрын
+ElZamo92 not really, supergramps weighs considerably more than. the beetle and the beetle is putting out at least 357hp vs the S14. who knows what they dialed it up to vs the Porsche. @357hp and 1850lbs the beetle should do a mid 10 second quarter mile where as gramps is a 13 second car if I remember correctly. Plus Marty said he's never been in something this fast.
@averageskaterboi
@averageskaterboi 8 жыл бұрын

That bug just looks pretty normal to me, doesn't seem enraged at all... 😉 To anybody curious, 268 KW = about 350 brake horse power. Good job. If you put some more work into the front wheels, frame, balance of the car, etc., you can get some more stability and a couple more KPH out of that thing. There's no reason that shouldn't be a 10 sec car. Just get that junk Trans unit out of there and build something to handle what "The Rock's" got cookin'!!! I know you spent a stupid amount of money building that car but, I'm quite certain you can make it all back, a couple hundred at a time on the local street races. 😀 I'm a Mopar, muscle car man, myself but, that makes me want to build another bug. When I was a kid, if we wanted a sleeper we took something like a Dodge Dart, pulled out the 6cyl (or 318, if it was "peppy") and pulled a hemi and adjoined 1 tonn 4spd out of some old work truck, went through the engine and viola, you had a sleeper. There were plenty old road cars with 440s, 383, etc. to be had for a few hundred ucks. Just yank the motor and stuff it in an old shitbox (with some work put into it, of course) and you were off to the races. Thank the EPA for screwing up cars as we know it. Even today's big horse power cars have to have so many restrictions and qualifications that they cost 70 grand. It's not just an engine and some steel that cost all that, it's figuring out how to do it and still meet smog and MPG ratings that takes all the brains, people's and computer's, that's the issue. And the epa has done more harm that good over the years, get rid of them and start over. We'd all be better off... And I had a '75 Super Beatle, the same, exact yellow colour with fuel injection and a 5spd that would haul ass. 😆 The big thing in my time was to pull the engine and shove a juiced up Porche engine in it. Then you're long gone. My only problem with it was that I'm so big that when I had my winter coat on, I couldn't shut the door because my shoulders were to wide. 😆 🤣
