Approach & landing runway 03R Gran Canaria Las Palmas (LPA GCLP)

Gran Canaria Airport, (Spanish: Aeropuerto de Gran Canaria) is a passenger and freight airport on the island of Gran Canaria. It is an important airport within the Spanish air-transport network.
The airport is located in the eastern part of Gran Canaria on the Bay of Gando (Bahía de Gando), 19 km south of center of the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and 25 km from the popular tourist areas in the south.
The airport was an official alternative (emergency) landing site for the NASA Space Shuttle, before the ending of Space Shuttle programme in July 2011.
This flight is taking you from the east side of the island toward the airport. Due to WIP (Work in progress) we perform the VOR 03L sidestep 03R approach and have to vacate the runway at the end.
All ATC and conversations are from this flight. Enjoy the view and movie!

I started watching these videos during the lockdown in March, and every once in a while I come back to see this one specifically when I miss my family... This brings me so much joy, seeing the island in the distance and how you slowly approach it, and I miss the airport too! Flying is great, I love your videos! Can't wait for the next one, I hope you're doing okay!

I was there in October just gone for 3 days spotting from mainland Spain. Great airport, really liked it. Next time I'll have to go back for longer.

Very professional, nice and relaxed crew. Didn´t expect anything else from a dutch crew. Always very fine people. Everything like it´s supposed to be. Landing was butter, btw.

Landed here as a passenger 3 times in my life ,. Love gran canaria ....but it will be a while before I come back ,. As I have much more of the world to see before I kick the bucket .... See you again some time 😊

Sorry. It was a joke just for me because I spent almost 10 years working in the COM-AIS office at ACC Canarias and I know many of the ATCs :-P (At 11:00 you can see a wind turbine, that's where ACC Canarias is located)

Geweldig om mee te kijken! Ik kijk veel kanalen van treinmachinsten, maar dit kanaal staat nu ook bij mijn favorieten. Treinen en vliegtuigen blijven toch wel het meest zeer imposant, de trein die steeds sneller kan zoals de Thalys/TGV, en vliegtuigen die steeds groter worden (A380/Antonov 225 etc.) waarvan je denkt hoe kan dat vliegen. Algemene techniek is leuk, maar deze twee imposante vervoersmiddelen zijn nog veel meer high tech! @ Mightymkl, uw stem lijkt wel erg op die van mijn tandarts.. Niemand in uw familie als tandarts? lol

😂 We hebben geen tandarts in de familie! 😂 Intressen in techniek is ook razend interessant! Het gaat ook allemaal heel snel. Innovatie na innovatie volgen elkaar snel op, op het spoor, auto's, luchtvaart.... Bedankt voor je reactie!

After a bunch of videos about the Tenerife disaster, I should have searched for Gran Canaria to see how vast Gran Canaria is from which that load of planes diverted. Well, there's a lot of room, that's clear, but I don't get the sense in this video of furious activity that would explain the overload at Tenerife. Still always will wonder if all those diverting decisions make sense. Were all those planes so low on fuel?

For sure there will be VOR approaches at the moment. When we did our approach 03L was closed. I don't know the current status of the airport. Thanks for your comment!

can you tell me why the approach is directly over the runway? couldnt there be a risk of colliding with a takeoff

No, we are on a good hight over the field and departing traffic has to level of at a certain altitude if traffic is coming towards them. It is wel regulated.

It was not broken. It was not selected because we had to vacate at the end of the runway. But to be sure we don't forget I made the call "No auto brakes". Thanks for your question. Greetings, MightyMKL

Lol , Ik heb deze vlucht al vele malen , zelf gevlogen met X-Plane 11 , met een Ryanair skin en voortaan maar met een Transavia skin :-) Ik vind X-Plane 11 zeer realistisch , maar ik ben geen echte piloot :-) Wat is jouw mening van X-Plane 11 ?

Mooie ZACHTE landing ! Ik vlieg 20 Juni om 13:05 uur weer met Transavia vanaf Rotterdam naar Gran canaria , Voor de mooie prijs van SLECHTS 44 euro ! En ik vlieg weer terug voor 67 euro ! op Dinsdag 27 Juni om 17:25 uur , Ben jij dan mijn piloot ? en hoe kunnen ze jou nou daarvan betalen ? :-)

Ik vlieg niet standaard van Rotterdam. Maar je weet het nooit! Hoe ze mij daarvan betalen..... Met dat soort prijzen zal de vlucht wel vol zitten en dan zullen ze er wel op verdienen .... (hoop ik! :-D)
