Age reduction for temporary graduate visa (485) is the biggest and the worst decision in this new migration strategy. Not only phd and masters by research but also masters by coursework students also find difficulty to align with this new age limit. Masters or phd students first need to complete their bachelor in order to qualify for post graduate studies so it’s not fair setting one age limit for graduate and post graduate students. My idea is its better to limit 32 for applying tgv for after bachelor completion , 37 for masters by coursework and 42 for masters by research and phd. Which is again align with government plan to create pathway to permanent residency which you can apply until 45. I hope these changes will be made which is good for students and international education and the australian society as well.

Yeah and most idiotic decision

you did not include VET sectors. I reckon the reason they reduced the minimum age requirement is because they want people to contribute to the economy longer compare to some what middle-aged people that may retire early and in the end they will need to bring new migrants because of that.

@@shahrukhalam5327Why is it that all the high quality research PhD positions are filled with domestic students. Most international PhD are in low competition subjects. Chinese steal the knowledge and F off back China afterwards. If you are smart you go to the United States.
@JohnDoe-jf8sn8 ай бұрын
@@shahrukhalam5327 I don't understand why people are too concerned about the age cap. if you really want to stay in Australia better you contribute to your home country first, once you gain an experience then apply for skilled visa.

@@georgesharonr what are you even talking about? Australian government never truly care about migrants feelings since migrants cannot vote. All we want is not trying to fit a round peg into a square hole. Is this too much to ask?

Coursework-based master's aren't just for the fresh grads. Many of us, already seasoned by work life post-bachelor's, find ourselves starting these courses over 35.

Frankly international students should not be bashed by this government. The groups of people that are causing housing crisis and the rest of the issues are on bridging visa initially came here on visitor’s visa and those on short term skill shortage have exhausted the system. Yes we have a good bunch of unscrupulous students that are hoping visas but they are not entirely the cause of the problem.

These changes should not apply for onshore students who arrived to Australia before this announcement as those students were promised to be granted graduate visa upon completion of post graduate studies. To make these changes fair please don't include the onshore students especially for age restriction
@ChamilVimukthiMadusanka898 ай бұрын
100% agree. Current students cannot reduce their age below 35 before next July even though they can achieve good ielts maybe with good GPA. There should be a grand father law attached to this new 485 visa in order to give opportunity to apply post work visa above 35 years old students after completing their degrees.
