I try three PAR meter apps on android and one from IOS on a Samsung S20 and iPhone 12 respectively.

This was my missing piece. My plants would grow massive and be healthy through veg and about half way through flower, but every run my plants would continue to throw pistils and stop bulking. I used the app you recommended for IOS. My ppfd was around 1500. I dialed my lights down to about 800 and my bud quality has increased 3 fold. Eternally grateful 🙏

Thanks for this! I can confirm what you are seeing. I've tried both the Photone app on my iPhone 13 using a paper diffuser and the PPFD Meter app on Android with an external light meter. The Android app reports about 20-30% lower readings vs Photone. I figured the PPFD Meter app plus sensor combo would be more accurate, but I quickly started to notice light stress with using PPFD Meter readings so I went back to using Photone and now my plants are happy. I'm on full spectrum LED with some red spectrum added.

Very cool. I’ve used the corona app... when it was called corona. (Before I purchased my MQ-500) It’s great, never tested it against my meter though. As always brilliant visual info. Keep em coming. You know I was wondering if you was using a Apogee the whole time or not but they are a very good company. Not saying that just because it's the US but the product is very accurate from what I've seen so far. Can't afford something like that myself so it is nice to see the differences in the PPF meters. I have different lights most haven't covered yet. I probably need to do a ppf test on them to see. Still have the Ol'HID lights for backup.

It's great once you learn where your highest par setting should be and figure out the quirks.. Found if you keep the phone vertically in line with the long lengths of the lights, and arm flat out off the cross lighting and reflective wall, and pan back and fourth a few times before you find the hot spot it gets it's best reading. Read your light at the same measurement as Shane in the way I described with a dark floor, and that should be your high 1000 par number. When using the dimmer or moving lights it keeps things really precise vs guessing, but if you have the phone angled wrong AND block some cross lighting with your arm your really looking for trouble and can find yourself burning plants at 850par or less.

Free app. Works pretty well with full spectrum LED's. Can't argue with free. I've used it for years to help me dial things in. Can't argue with free....just understand the limitations.

The issue I have Shane is manufacturing tolerances. Have you done a measurement with the Photone app across multiple flavors of iOS device to see if the 10% holds true at far red? Or even other spectrums? I've also seen that for the Android devices they are saying you will need to buy an additional light for calibration - which is the only way I think you can make it work on the large variety of h/w on Android. But then will it be acceptable across multiple spectrums? I like the direction you are going with a proper Lux meter and conversion, but if you have a way to do an analysis based off the relation to tolerance it would be very beneficial. I think a reasonable 5-10% reading within Apogee numbers is reasonable though, as long as it's fairly consistent.

And how Luxx is made into equivalent PAR reading. I do know that the "Tent Buddy" App available through Android tells you that for best readings to add a Luxx meter with their App. Last time I checked, they're were readings for all types of LED's 3000K, 3500K, 3500K+660nm red, along with CMH/HPS/MH, HID Fixtures? Maybe he meant another Android App? Since the "most accurate" App is for Apple, and involves putting that thin white paper over your camera for best results. I wonder how this would work with the Android Apps? Maybe they'd do as well? I think Shane didn't try it, or we'd know. While extremely trusted more than any lighting channel? Did Shane miss something by not using this same "paper" on the camera on the Android Apps? Maybe they aren't so misleading, or are more accurate even, but the piece of paper diffusing the camera wasn't attempted on the Android Apps? Hopefully more will be explained in the future. Anyone know how to download Apple Apps for use on Android phones? I've heard this works sometimes. Any info?

Sorry Shane but I tried and it isn’t accurate with iPhone 7 vs apogee 610. Yes I used different diffusers . Calibrated with the 610. It works better as a lux meter. It could be I’m doing something wrong but it should not be that difficult. It’s a hard fail for led

Photone has an app or android now. I compared the reading to the par chart that came with my light. It was off by only 40 ppfd. Which seems to be in line with what your findings with apple app Photone. Plus I didnt have to use a diffuser. Can you do a follow up maybe trying the Photone with your galaxy phone?

I think they may have updated the app as I recently installed it and if i try diffuse it with any paper i have the readings drop off massively. I need to do more testing and get some really really thin paper. This app seems promising and more so as I can't afford 500 pound on a device i will use once or twice a year... More so in prohibition land.

I suggest going to Photones homepage and reading up, explains why certain phones don't work and what sensors it uses to do the test. seems Android phones suffer the most depending on the model you have.
