Next up for Top Rank Boxing and Nine months after boxing’s most controversial conclusion of 2020, WBA super flyweight world champion Joshua “El Profesor” Franco and Australia’s former world champion Andrew “The Monster” Moloney will settle the score in the third chapter of their rivalry Saturday, Aug. 14 at Hard Rock Live at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa.
In the 10-round co-feature, undefeated WBO International junior welterweight champion Arnold Barboza Jr. will take on Antonio “Tono” Moran.
The four-round middleweight special attraction will see the highly anticipated professional debut of Nico Ali Walsh, grandson of Muhammad Ali, against an opponent to be named.

There was never such a thing. Commissioners checks every second of the bandages. They see when they open and sign the bandage before putting the gloves. Cotto has always been salty when he loses.

In the 2nd round Cotto's nose was broken, forcing him to breathe through his mouth making it hard to fight and still he was winning a bunch of rounds. What a legend.

This fight took some of cottos prime. I remember him coming back against Michael Jennings and he looked like shit. His war with clottey too that could have been a draw. Despite that cotto went on to take on the best always. That's why he is missed and loved man. Had he won this fight he would have been pound for pound. Floyd left for awhile.

The most disgraceful fight I ever watched. When it was later discovered Margarito was using loaded gloves I was so mad. This fight affected Cotto’s entire career. He was redeemed in the rematch, but was he totally recovered from the emotional damage this cheater put him through? I don’t think he ever was. I had, and still have, the utmost respect for Cotto to this day. He is one hell of a man.

The emotional pain he got through with it. The scar tissue form after the illegal plaster used never. Those injuries opened fast again in every fight he got.

Seeing Cotto in that first round makes this so much tougher to watch. He was just coming into his prime, this dude was about to blossom into a special fighter, and this criminal, Margarito took his prime years away from him in one brutal beating from a Man with plaster in his gloves!

@@Chris-np3li in this fight, cotto outboxed him for 6 rounds and out of nowhere started getting hit and the hits started doing A LOT OF damage, even in round two when he started bleeding those shots weren’t even landing all that clean yet still had some good power behind them, didn’t seem right, second fight you can see those punches were not the same, didn’t affect cotto the same, and there are photos of the wraps without any tears where? We’re talking about the tears that were on his hand while he was in the ring, what are you gonna show, wraps after they left the ring and everything was said and done? Obviously they’ll deny they’re cheating in the fights they never got caught for, but you pay attention it’s obvious, never in the history of boxing has another fighter been seen in the ring with wraps that look like cement inside of them, and it wasn’t cement or plaster

It was never proven he used plaster Paris wraps in this fight. I have seen cottos face messed up in multiple fights. AM was never suspended because no evidence. AM was shaking hand ms with everyone after fight and had them on in the ring forever after fight.

Antonio margarito should not only lost his boxing license, he should have been arrested for assault and battery. When you are a fighter who cheats you are endangering the life of your opponent. And if you are caught cheating you should never be able to fight in a ring ever again

Thank God Naazim Richardson saw that block of plaster that this cheater was going to use against Mosley. You could tell Margarito knew he was caught just by his body language when he walked into the ring for his ass whipping. The best fight ever was Cotto's revenge.

In all kinds of gloves whether theyre beginner boxing gloves, mexican cleto reyes 14oz, 16oz winnings, i can tell whether im wearing a gel pad,toilet paper pad or even a sponge knuckle pad.

So nasty, just like Resto vs Collins. Nobody knew what they were watching, and Collins was ruined so bad he ended his own life. Extremely tragic circumstances that Cotto was quite fortunate to avoid. Billy Collins never got a rematch against Luis Resto, but Cotto's subsequent trashing of Margarito in their return bout felt like redemption for both of them.

@@raulcitraroLuis resto was worst he removed padding and put plaster of clay in his gloves basically punching Billy Collin’s with bricks for 12 rounds and Billy Collin’s never was knocked down. If you look at pictures of Billy Collin’s after the fight his face was much worse than Cotto’s. Both of these events were devastating though.

Cotto did great for 5 rounds because he kept moving. In the 6th he was getting caught on the ropes,it was to difficult to keep moving like he was. He expected that he couild fight for a couple of rounds and be okay, little did he know that Margarito had concrete in his gloves. In the 7th round you could just feel what poor Cotto was up against. He went from being okay to being in bad shape that quickly because of what he was being hit with. What a shame, such a nice guy and great fighter.

Those gloves were definitely loaded for this fight and I'd wager for his fight against Paul Williams as well. Loaded gloves or no, Cotto would have won this fight had he attacked the body more. He was tee'ing off on Tony.

Because it was a set up, the comission was there when Capetillo was wrapping Margarito and Nazeem ( mosleys trainer) also, Nazeem made Capetillo rewrapp Margarito 5 times until Nazeem said there was something (yes, 5 brand new wrapps)and took the wrapping somewhere while the comission did nothing instead of instantly bag the wrapping. Just look at this fight, When Margarito starts getting to Cotto its over. And Cotto said that antonio had the plaster here. The second fight is EXACTLY the same,Cotto winning on points until Margarito gets him in the later rounds. he was going to knock Cotto again until they stopped the fight. no plaster and same result ( ignoring the bs stopagge)

Honestly this was one of the best fights I had ever seen up until Margarito's next fight against Mosley when we found out he was cheating. I still remember celebrating Margarito's win with my dad, we were so hyped we couldn't believed the great Cotto had been defeated by what looked to us like pure heart and determination. I'm not 100% sure regarding the plaster situation. I don't want to touch on that subject as of this moment. But Margarito kept Cotto at the end of all his punches, and he looked massive in the ring during this fight. Cotto also got hit more than he should've been hit, and for whatever reason Margarito just seemed to have a mental edge over Cotto in this fight, and didn't respect Cotto's power. It's really hard to beat a bigger man if you let the bigger man get full extension on his punches. Plus, when that bigger man doesn't respect your power, and has world class punch resistance, and stamina-things can get quite complicated in there. The plaster situation robbed us from what could've been a legendary series of fights, because these two fighters have styles that create entertaining fights.

Once you heard about it and watch from the 2nd round..you can tell Margarito definitely had loaded hand wraps…Cotto was backing up already from just regular places punches

This is a stupid comment, the confidence that comes with loaded gloves will give you is also an immeasurable advantage. You would know keep your gaurd tight and push forward, you dont have to land anything clean or even in registered stricking zones. Just touch him on the shoulder, anywhere on the arms, hip etc etc knowing you're going to hurt him. Even if you get hurt you're confidence is to be "thats fine, just push forward he'll wear down". Its almost like you're saying being on epo's wont give you a mental advantage, as well as ever time cotto got touched it hurt and caused damage.

I think everyone can agree that this fight stole some of cottos prime. Margacheato should have been fined and never allowed to fight again man. Cotto was on top at this time. Had he not lost he was going to go on the pound for pound list. This is the cotto that Floyd avoided. The cotto that was at ringside at his fight against ricky hatton. What did Floyd do, retire and fight the man five years later after he lost 2x already. He would go ahead and do that to pacman as well. Then he wonders why he doesn't get the praise that he should. Floyd you were great but not like you say you were.

Antonio Margarito, es un fajon, buena quijada, aguanta golpes, no se cansa fuerte de piernas pero no puedo pensar que es un pegador. Con 50 peleas 41 ganadas 8 perdidas 1 no contest y solo 27 knock outs, deja muchas dudas que fortalecen la teoria del vendaje ilegal. Cuando alguien tiene este tipo de vendaje VA haciendo da~o poco a poco, lastimando round por round. No es que da un golpe fulminante. Es muy probable que de esos 27 knock outs quizas la mitad no fueran legales.

mayweather was supposed to fight cotto....there was interview that MONEY mayweather did in which commentators were asking/pressuring him to fight cotto...it was the fight everyone wanted to see....money may said "i wont let boxing retire me i will retire from the sport of boxing" while he was YOUNG AND IN HIS PRIME HE RETIRED....cotto then went on to face a margarito...lost... mayweather came out of retirement .... am i the only one that can do math here?

I’d give my respect to Cotto, all of it. Once I heard that Margarito fought this fight with plaster, and when he got busted with it before the fight against Shane Mosley, I was disappointed and mad. He was a cheater with concrete hands. You’ll always be a cheater, and a disgrace to boxing! 😡😤👎🏻

Had to come back and watch this fight because I had a couple random thoughts about it. It's an odd way to think about things but I think Margarito was especially deadly with loaded gloves compared to other fighters. Great stamina and a legendary chin and never stopped throwing, how could you even stop him from getting hits on you? Also, regardless of the gloves I think Mosley was always a worse matchup for Marg than Cotto style-wise. Mosley's hard right hand was way better at keeping Marg off balance and at the right range than Cotto's left hook. Mosley was also really strong and one of the toughest guys in any weight class both mentally and physically.

I remember losing 100 dollars on this fight. I knew something was up with this fight when I was watching it live becuz we all as boxing fans knew margarito wasn’t better than Cotto and Cotto was coming into himself as one of the best fighters pound of pound in his weight class. I took that bet becuz I knew there was no way Margarito could beat him and the way Cotto was taking knees in the 11th I was like come on something isn’t right and margarito punches weren’t even thrown with heat, he was slow and he kept stalking as if he knew something we didn’t and then what do u know approximately 7 to 8 months later he fight Mosley and the scandal came out and it all made sense and then I went back and watched the Paul Williams fight and was like yeah he had loaded gloves in that fight as well.

💯 becuz I was like it ain’t no way and when u analyze those fights in particular, Paul Williams in this Cotto fight he was heating up in the later rounds coming forward with more pressure. That plaster of Paris was definitely solid by those later rounds.

There’s actually never been hard evidence (no pun intended) that he (attempted) used illegal wraps for any fight outside the Mosley fight. At the end of the day his career is tainted and that’s on him and his corner but a lot of boxing fans use flawed logic in regards to this fight and the events surrounding Margarito.

Margarito was a terrific fighter, no matter how many punches he takes, he just keeps coming. He always gave everything he had everytime he fought. He was a problem for top fighters at 147 back then. It's just disappointing that he/his team chose to cheat despite of these traits

That first good body shot shook Cotto a bit too much in hindsight. This fight is damn shame. I really believe it would've been Pacquiao Mayweather and Cotto instead of just the first 2 as legends of this era. Cotto's first loss should've been to an all time great in a Mega fight.

While its true Cotto lost something from this fight, he still seemed to get hurt by Marg in the rematch and with 10 oz gloves as well, and marg was really slow in his comeback. That was really dirty to use the plaster strip, not a full cast but a strip probably solidified his shots. But lets not forget; margarito did walk through Cottos shots. He was never hurt by him nor respected him.

If this was a fare fight I would have some respect for Marqarito, but as it turned out he was using tampered gloves loaded with a substance called "Plaster Of Paris". Margarito was banned for a year, but he should've faced criminal charges bc he could've killed Cotto. Thank God for boxing trainer Naazim Richardson (R.I.P) for catching this cheater (Marqarito) in the Shane Mosley fight. I'm just glad Cotto was able to get his revenge on Marqarito in their 2nd fight & Marqarito NEVER boxed again after that fight. 👏🏾 👏🏾

1. It was a fare fight no evidence of plaster in this fight. He got caught in the Mosley so you just assuming he did in this fight too.Also in the 2nd when cotto was asked how hard did margarito hit comparison to the first fight he said it was the same and cottos face looked the same by end of the 2nd fight too 2. uhh margarito was coming out of an eye surgery that’s why his eye got inflamed like it did for the fight for cotto but that was margaritos mistake. 3. He actually kept boxing after that he had a couple of more fights.

@@Linxz_FL there is evidence of plaster in this fight, there’s cotto outboxing margarito for 6 rounds and then out of nowhere getting hit with punches that are doing a lot of damage, there’s photos of margaritos wraps after this fight with tears that look like cement or plaster, and there is a second fight where margarito didn’t do NEARLY as much damage as he was doing in this fight AFTERR he was caught cheating against Mosley, make it make sense

Cotto looked really good, he was sharp, his punches accurate but we know now that he had no chance. His nose began bleeding middle of the 2nd round and you know that's not right. He was being hit with bricks in effect, it's really hard to watch.
