I really like all the subtle digs at Slice Engineering. "We really want to be as open as possible...we don't want to just lock people into our system"

I'm glad Pheatus is actually trying to work with the community and keep everything as open as they can compared to some other companies in the 3dp world. Great interview

Could you ask Max if the XG hotend is kinematically coupled and rigid?
@maximilian.arnold

It is very rigid and kinematically coupled. I think this didn't really come across in this video XD

@MatrixRay19

They can't, DropEffect managed to dodge those patent claims like a thread on a needle, they are screwing the heater block into the heatbreak and then the heatbreak into the cold block and fins. SE's patent only claims attaching the heater block to the cold block.

"Kinematic coupling" has somehow become the new buzzword...
@TheWrongButton
@TheWrongButton Жыл бұрын
I believe that's largely because of people running into trouble with patents from Slice Engineering. Instead of a 'rigid' coupling it uses a method different enough to satisfy patent law for solid mounting, hence the frequent use of the term 'kinematic' coupling
@aoife8415
@aoife8415 Жыл бұрын
what thewrongbutton said, its to get around slice engineerings bullshit patent, but also this is quite literally a kinematic coupling; its a modified maxwell coupling using socket heads instead of balls, and its appropriate in this case to reduce heat transfer. its a clever design, even putting aside the need to skirt around that stupid patent

I just got in a Phaetus Dragonfly for my Ender and the temp sensor welded itself inside the old heatblock. Pulled the wires right out. Good thing I had ordered a PT1000 to replace it anyways. The other issue I had is my Ender didn't come with standoffs on the gantry plate but a flat plastic shim. So have to add some spacers to get around the Dragonfly's barrel curve. It's always something. ;)

My Dragonfly BMS had no issues mounting on an Ender 3 Pro. No need for any spacers or anything else. I didn't even have to move the Z endstop switch... just straight up bolt it, quick PID tune and it's ready to print.
