Big time on the world building part. The Baratie in this episode was built from scratch. It's not CGI. Netflix built several ships and this is one of them. Biggest of them all, I believe. Maybe. Garp's bulldog ship was also built as well and may be a bit larger. Big time world building for sure.

Since you guys seemed confused, Mihawks line about being a frog croaking in a well is straight outta the manga/anime. He wasn't referencing how Zoro had been in a well lol he was talking about Zoros strength. Basically, the message was this. You're like a frog croaking loudly, prooving its the biggest in a tiny pond. But try leaving that little pond...and you'll soon realize you aren't as big and bad as you thought you were. In otherwords, he was telling Zoro 'You may have earned yourself a small reputation here in the east blue....but that means NOTHING in the grandline.'

I think the lesson Zoro learned from Kuina's death is that death can happen at anytime and be innocuous. I think that is why he is so gunho on fighting Mihawk now. What if he or his new goal Mihawk just died and he never had the chance? Like with Kuina. That, I think, is why he said he couldn't retreat.
@HeyTris
@HeyTris 7 ай бұрын
I always thought of it as if Zoro backs down from Mihawk/his dream in that moment or at any point really he loses his integrity and "betrays" their promise by not taking the chance to become the greatest, but thats a really great point and ive never thought of that actually, that Zoro in universe learned the lesson that Kuinas death was supposed to convey, even in a world where everyone is basically superhuman life is still unfair like that and death can always happen. the name's Kuina btw.

so, the accents. the source material for this is a black and white comic, and the setting is not earth. however, the creator, oda, was once asked where the characters would be from if they were from earth. luffy, if he was from a real place and not the goa kingdom on dawn island, would be brazilian, for example. oda has only done this for the main crew, there are too many characters to do it for all of them. however, the casting team wanted to show their love for the series by casting people who look and sound like they're from the places oda said the crew members are from. so, iñaki godoy is mexican, speaks spanish and comes with the accent attached. he was cast for luffy because he looks like luffy and is from an analogue culture. this is a very deep cut, and while the actors could have trained their accents out with vocal coaches, there's no reason to. with a world this diverse, a little bit of accent inconsistency is not gonna be the shot that sinks the ship lol.

You can also just ignore that completely (kid Luffy having a different accent to grown luffy) because at that point he lived in a different place to where he ended up growing up fully - and accents are learned and change based on where you live, especially with kids. He started American because of the people he mixed with in Foosha, then he went to live with Dadan and gang and picked up his current accent.

The frog croaking in a well thing is adapted from it's original meaning. It's actually a phrase born from a fable about how a frog in the bottom of the well would only see the sky through it's small opening and believed that to be the whole world and so once the frog exits the well they're out in a much larger world than they believed. The phrase is used similar to like "big fish in a small pond" basically calling him cocky and arrogant for believing he had the skill to take on the greatest swordsman despite only knowing the waters of the east blue.

@Sean TankTop, Garp D. Monkey is Luffy D. Monkey's paternal grandfather. 2:01 Regarding Luffy and Garp's opposing accents, does it matter when you consider that Luffy's story tells us that he didn't live at home? He hung around the docks and bars living amongst his idols, pirates. He picked up their ways of speaking, mindset and attitude, and it wasn't until Shanks that he discovered that he needed to unlearn everything he had previously learned to be the pirate he is today. He had an American accent in his flashbacks and now has his Mexican actor's accent in his late teens. If that doesn't work for you, well, you can always go with that NetFlix went with the best actor they had, and that we got what we got =) 2:42 Some biracial children look more like one parent than the other. It's not always a 50/50 split. Have you heard of the Basketball Player Rui Hachimura? I mean no disrespect to him by any means, I'm just using him as a great example of biracial children not always being an even split of both parents.

My nephew got an American accent just by watching American tv shows as a kid. It took him til he was about 15 or so until he lost it and got a more Aussie accent. For Luffy, he lived his young childhood in Foosha, then went to another area completely and that could very well explain the change in accent. That and his father and grandfather were never around enough for him to pick up theirs, so... it honestly makes sense.

that sounds really cool...in One Piece's world, but I just can't help but think about the fact that, in real world physics, given that the human jaw isn't all that strong, and swords are really awkwardly shaped for holding in one's mouth, you wouldn't need to go so far as to behead him to remove his sword -- just a light tap on the blade will do the trick =P

@catsidhe181
@catsidhe181 2 ай бұрын
@@silverspade8394 yeah your brain actively underpowers your jaw muscles because you'll break your own teeth if it doesn't, and you can't consciously make yourself bite hard enough to break your own teeth unless something goes very wrong, because your body is built to not severely injure yourself like that, which makes the raw power of your jaw muscles a moot point in the context of this conversation, because this conversation was about how well one can hold on to a sword in their mouth in an active fight, not just how hard a person can theoretically bite onto an inanimate object with no other forces applied to it. You can theorize all you want with numbers taken out of context of all the other factors of real world physics, but the strength of a jaw is not just about the muscles, and in the context of someone trying to take something from your mouth, the human jaw is hella weak for *taking* force that is applied onto it. We're not dogs, whose jaws are designed to hold on to large struggling prey, our jaws break rather easily when you're holding a long lever in your mouth for ppl to break your jaw with. There's a reason why in the real world, you don't ever see ppl fighting with swords held in their mouths rather than held in their hands, no matter how hard they can bite down versus how strong their grip is. There's been tons of videos on youtube since the One Piece live action came out, of people testing the whole "fighting with a sword in your mouth" thing in the real world. You can crunch numbers all you want or try to argue that one can train to become superhuman, but at the end of the day, no matter how cool a fantasy is, it will only work in fantasy worlds.

mihawk spared him for two reasons. one he recognised shanks hat and two he mentioned earlier he was bored. in the strawhats he saw great potential so shake up the world and make it interesting again. and yes if you watch the first episode again you will spot mihawk in the crowd near shanks, i mean you can't miss the sideburns lol.

I wish they mentioned in the live action how important history is, and that there is an entire missing century no one remembers. This becomes integral to the main plot and extremely relevant to many characters, especially members of the Straw Hat Crew. I mean if they were gonna drop that Garp is Luffy's grandpa it isn't really a spoiler. The mixing of "modern" and classic wardrobe is VERY intentional to the plot.

They'll get to it in the second season, it's not like it will happen in a very far future. Having one event moved forward doesn't mean that they have to do that with everything. Besides, the East Blue is basically the prologue of One Piece, the mayority of the big plot point are first introduced in the next saga.

Americans are so weird with the Garp and Luffy thing. Luffy is supposed to be brazilian, Brazil is mostly composed of mixed people, unlike the US that, because of the segregation, had waaay less mixed couples so it has more full white people and full black people. Most people I know in Brazil has a white ass grandma or grandpa and a super black grandma or grandpa, and they are every color under the scale, a lot of them being Luffy's skin tone. I am about Luffy's skin tone and my grandpa on my mother's side is whiter than Garp, has blue eyes and used to have blond hair. My grandma in my mom's side has the darkest skin tone on a person I know. All my dad's side are black with brown chocolate color, and I'm Luffy's color while my sister is a bit more ligher than me. Most people in the country are a mixed of some kind of European usually Italian, German or Portuguese with African and/or native Indigenous people. We also have a big asian population (mostly Japanese, Korean and Chinese) having the beggest number of Japanese people outside of Japan. Genetics are not exact paint mixing nor you have to only get your whole genetics from one person. It its common sense here, but I guess not in the US because everyone get so weird when the Garp revelation happens.

Luffy does get in the way of people's dreams if they're incompatible with his or his crew's dreams. He's a pirate, they're selfish by nature so he'll prioritise his crew and himself. And of course he will otherwise, he would be forced to let any other pirate become the pirate king xD

The thing about the filler in one piece... out of the really big shows/long running shows OP actually has the least amount of filler. I mean Naruto actually has close to 50% filler whereas OP has like 9-10% filler out of 1000+ episodes. Also the first 30 episodes doesn't contain filler. There is a lot of recap stuff in the beginning of episodes (which gets crazy down the line) and if you consider that filler than by all means but in regards for material different from the source, that is not the case.

Between Emil's inaccurate statements about the anime that he even states he watched some of when he was younger (so he's forgotten a lot but pretends to remember it anytime he wants to take a dig at the anime), Morgan's constant attempts to find something minor to complain about or crack a bad joke that distracts all 4 people from the show, and Sean's constant commentary over the show's dialogue...this is just a terrible series of reactions. Dustin is the only one who seems to actually be trying to react to this show. I had hoped that the reaction would get better when it got to the second half of the season but sadly not. I even went and looked ahead to Sanji and Zeff's moment in the next episode and they did the same thing there too. And Sean keeps asking what they all missed in the comments...dude, you missed the entire feel and vibe of the show because you all have forcibly broken the show's immersion at every key moment by yammering non-stop. By this point there should have been at least 3, probably 4, rather intense and immersive moments for you...Luffy getting the hat from Shanks in Ep 2, Kuro's monologue in Episode 4, and Mihawk and Zoro's fight this Ep...particularly with the focus on Nami's return to the group...but you all have laughed and goofed off through all of them. I dont even want to see how you handle a reaction to Nami's story so I'm calling it quits here. I expect it'll only irritate me further. So far you're the only reaction channel I've seen that has blundered through this show that turned into a reaction gold mine for a lot of channels. Not sure if you did Arcane or not as well but after watching this one, I definitely dont want to see what you might have done there. Best of luck with your channel. Maybe listen to your comments from time to time when they tell you something is bothersome to viewers. A small subset might vocalize it but I guarantee a lot more people are thinking it and just not commenting. And definitely stop acting like you know something when you really aren't sure Emil.

I agree wholeheartedly, this is probably the worst reaction I have ever seen, not just One Piece. Those guys don't pay attention to anything, just keep on blabbing and focus on the accent of Luffy's actor for the whole season. They keep on missing just about every emotional Moment for the sake of a stupid joke every 10 seconds. Those guys are unfit for a reaction. Make a podcast or something where you can keep on spamming your unfunny jokes for anybody who actually wants to hear it, but as far as reactions go.. please stay away from those. I enjoy watching reactions because i can get a different angle on things, but I never thought the experience could get so much worse with a bunch of people who don't give a rat's ass about a story.

I've been bingeing the anime since this came out, and I'll tell ya....the Japanese voices are so much better. At least for now. Anime dubbing wasn't the greatest in the late 90s/early 2000s. Sanji's voice in particular is so much better in Japanese! He's so suave and composed 90% of the time, until the ladies show up and then he's completely over the top! It's fricking hilarious. But the english voice is very cringe.

I really don't get this mans takes on One Piece but it became a little clearer today. Based on his comment on Sanji's annoying voice I would harbor a guess that the version he saw was the Infamous 4kidz dubbing. They butchered the source material and even killed off the crew to end the show's life span over here. Sanji is still annoying in his own right. His take on the show being chock full of filler I think is unwarranted though. One piece has 0 filler episodes until episode 54, so maybe he's just seen further than he remembers. Lets say he actually saw 100 episodes right? In those 100 episodes you have only the one filler arc spanning from 54 to 61. In fact in the current run of 1084 episodes there is a whopping ~130 episodes of filler. That's a little more than Naruto at ~90, and less than Bleach at ~160. Those both have much shorter episode counts to. To put it in perspective, Even with the recent Bleach episodes it comes in at about 40% filler, and Naruto accounting for all forms even Boruto is at ~30% filler. One piece tho? ~10%. Filler is filler end of the day, I just think he paints the show in a light it does not deserve, and there may be many potential viewers of the show put off from what hes saying about it, especially since the length of the show is a big enough hurdle.
